Course description The Masters in Voluntary Administration (MVA) programme has been designed for the specific learning needs of senior managers in non-profit and voluntary organisations and social enterprises. The course utilises expert practitioner involvement supported by contemporary research. The MVA programme, recognising the advantages and limitations of existing MBA and MPA courses, builds on combining relevant business applied subjects with an understanding of the strategic environment and policy context in which the modern voluntary sector operates. Course Units covered over two years may include the following:

Course description Voluntary and community organisations in the UK are experiencing unparalleled changes as ‘Third Way’ politics have drawn them into the mainstream policy agenda. They are taking a growing share of public service delivery and are contributing their expertise to social inclusion initiatives in work with diverse groups. However, the changing emphasis and contract culture have affected the sector’s autonomy and flexibility, and its relationships with local community stakeholders and service users.

This programme focuses on key debates about the changing roles and contexts of third sector organisations, adopting a critical and interdisciplinary approach. It considers recent theory and developments, aiming to extend conceptual knowledge, understanding and critical reflection of changes in the context of current social policy concerns and organisational practices. It provides opportunities for you to develop innovative models in research and project-based assignments relevant to your individual interests, the sector and the field of study.

Course description This postgraduate course has been specially designed for people working in the charity sector who would like to either formalize their education, learn and develop the latest management skills and/or enhance their career opportunities.

The demands made by the Charities Act 2007, Charities Regulation Bill 2005, the Trustee Act 2000, and other relevant legislation, has led to a need for charity employers and anyone else seeking to be employed in the sector, to be equipped with a range of skills.
