Course description The MVA programme, recognising the advantages and limitations of existing MBA and MPA courses, builds on combining relevant business applied subjects with an understanding of the strategic environment and policy context in which the modern voluntary sector operates. Year 1 comprises units from the Charity offer. Applicants with a trained finance or fundraising background will be exempt from appropriate Year 1 units. Year 2 encompasses core units together with a research methods unit. An elective is also chosen from available units, e.g. fundraising or voluntary sector financial management. The final component of the MVA programme is the dissertation. This is a major piece of work, linking academic theory with practical reality. It will involve the collection, analysis and interpretation of data, and market relevant forces and facts, and a realistic workable solution.

Mature students without formal qualifications but with work experience within the Charity Sector are also welcome. All students must be working within the Charity Sector, preferably but not exclusively in a management position, to qualify to be enrolled onto the programme. Course description This postgraduate course has been specially designed for people working in the charity sector who would like to either formalize their education, learn and develop the latest management skills and/or enhance their career opportunities.
The demands made by the Charities Act 2007, Charities Regulation Bill 2005, the Trustee Act 2000, and other relevant legislation, has led to a need for charity employers and anyone else seeking to be employed in the sector, to be equipped with a range of skills.
These include a knowledge and understanding of Charity Management, Charity Governance , Marketing and Fundraising, Strategic Management, HRM and Research. This Programme starts every September, although in January an intake is possible for students with a financial background.
