Although applicants normally require a first degree (usually at least a 2:2) or
HND in a relevant subject and a minimum of three years post-qualification
experience in a relevant field to undertake postgraduate study, we recognise
that many people have a wealth of valuable skills and knowledge developed at
work or through training. If you have the potential to succeed in postgraduate
or post-experience studies, we will consider your application on its individual

Course description |
The core objectives of the Charity Marketing and Fundraising course includes
providing opportunities for you to share experiences from your own
organisation’s perspective, developing a theoretical framework and practical
knowledge of fundraising and marketing in charities and extending your knowledge
by the use of research papers and authoritative texts. As a result the course
contains a mix of academic and vocational subjects ranging from marketing to
more specialist subjects such as charity law and fund raisingThe charity degree
course aims to
• develop a broad, informed and critical understanding of the complex issues
surrounding fundraising and strategic planning
• explore the use of marketing as a strategic tool
• examine the importance of fundraising and marketing to an organisations';
long-term and sustainable future
• explore the effects of external environment and regulation on fundraising and
marketing
• develop skills in the management of resources

A higher degree in Charity Fundraising and Marketing will be of interest to any
senior marketing manager or fundraiser in the voluntary sector generally or in a
specific charity.
The course recognises that aspects of charity management are different from both
the private sector and the public sector. There is no unifying theory of
profit-motive as in the private sector, nor the formal statutory framework which
often regulates public sector organisations. This course is designed to meet the
need for a rounded professional understanding of the legal requirements,
theories and practices of management in the charity sector. It focuses on the
two functional disciplines vital to any charity operation – the effective
raising and management of funds. |
