Would you like to help keep older people mobile and make a real difference to their quality of life? Then why not volunteer for Age Concern Enfield and help us to support older people in the London Borough of Enfield?
We are currently seeking volunteers to support our award winning footcare project by cutting toenails for older people at our weekly footcare clinics. No experience necessary as training and full support is provided.
ROLE: Volunteers will be trained to cut toenails of older people who have been assessed as not requiring a NHS chiropody service.
SAMPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Preparing clinic, ensuring treatment areas are cleansed and instruments sterilized.
- Ensuring that service user information is kept up- to -date and stored securely.
- Making the follow up appointment.
- Cutting service-users nails and providing advice on footcare.
- Applying any such first aid dressing as may be required due to accidental
abrasion.
- Recognition of symptoms to refer to a Chiropodist or GP such as pain,
swelling, temperature and color change.
- It is the responsibility of all volunteers to work and practice in a safe manner and report any health and safety problems to the Project Manager.
ESTIMATED HOURS: Approximately 3 hours a week (weekday mornings)Hours will be dependent on clinic opening times.
PLACEMENT: There are currently 4 clinics: Ponders End, Freezywater, Enfield Town and Palmers Green. These are all in Enfield.
QUALIFICATIONS SOUGHT: None in particular, but volunteers must have a friendly and pleasant manner and empathetic and sensitive to the needs of older people.
BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEER: You will receive project specific and induction training as well as any other training relevant to the role. Your help will be of direct benefit to the service user.
OTHER: It is a requirement that all volunteers complete a one day training course which is run by the NHS chiropody service. Volunteers are expected to adhere to Age Concern’s Equal Opportunities Policy and must also maintain confidentiality in respect to service users’ information. We will also need to carry out a CRB check.
