About the role
In partnership with Southern Health Foundation Trust, Solent Mind has an established Peer Support Team throughout Southampton’s Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), Primary Care Networks (PCNs) & Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Services. We are looking to recruit a Peer Support Worker with lived experience of Gambling Disorder for the newly formed Southern Gambling Service based at College Keep in Southampton. This exciting new role will be mainly based online; however, you will be working within a multidisciplinary team and reporting to an established Senior Peer Worker working within Southampton.
About you
As a Peer Support Worker, it is essential you have lived experience of the mental health difficulties associated with gambling disorder and understand the key concepts of recovery. Working as a part of the Peer Support Team within Southampton, you will need to have the confidence and skills to work with NHS staff at all levels and to work with service users with a range of ages and needs. The ability to travel is essential for this role as although you will mainly be based at home, you will be required to travel into Southampton on a regular basis to attend team meetings and one-to-one reviews.

The Role
Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, the Mental Health Support Worker will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. As an integral and highly valued member of the team, you will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to people using the service in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery journey.
In particular, the Mental Health Support Worker will support the smooth transition of people using the service to other Mental Health services, by helping them to complete recovery and crisis plans for example. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, you will promote choice, self-determination, and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work alongside an agreed number of people using the GPIMHS / MHICS service on a 1:1 basis, in person and / or virtually, from a lived experience perspective.

- Use personal, experiential knowledge and to share lived experience when appropriate to benefit others.

- Support people using the service to identify and overcome fears within a relationship of empathy and trust.

- Accompany people who use the service to appointments / meetings / activities of their choice and performing a range of practical tasks, aligned to recovery goals.

About the role:
Your role as a TEIO will be to answer and speak to incoming callers as well as to hold a caseload and make outgoing calls to those affected by crime. You will be the primary contact for the Hub across Humberside and will be the face of the service.

About the role
Working in partnership with our NHS colleagues, Solent Mind are providing Peer Support from within Community Mental Health Teams across Southampton.
This role includes:
- Working with community mental health team colleagues to identify service users that may benefit from peer support and plan work accordingly in a collaborative, person-centred way, including on entry and discharge to/from the service.
- Working with people in one-to-one and group settings, including managing your own caseload of service users, to support their recovery and build support networks.
- Supporting people to develop and use a range of skills and techniques to help their wellbeing.

It is essential that you have your own lived experience and have a key understanding of the role of peer support in mental health as well as the ability to manage your own time with competing priorities taking responsibility for your own work and accountabilities.

Previous experience is not required as you will receive robust training prior to working directly with clients. Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes across a number of prisons. We now have vacancies to provide a service at HMP Wandsworth, HMP Pentonville and HMP High Down. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, these posts will lead the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme at HMP Wandsworth, HMP Pentonville and HMP High Down, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.
We have 3 roles available:
1 x full time (35 hours per week) at HMP Wandworth - Salary £29,584 per year
1 x full time (35 hours per week) at HMP Pentonville - Salary - £29,584 per year
1 x part time (21 hours/ 3 days per week) at HMP High Down - Salary £17,750 per year (£29,584 FTE)
All roles will be prison-based.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach.
