Deadline for applications: 5pm, 6 November

This is an opportunity to coordinate and help develop a small, vibrant, national nonviolence charity based on a community of 150 volunteers.

The Alternatives to Violence Project supports people, particularly those in hardship, to learn how to handle conflict without violence and to build stronger relationships.  We achieve this through a programme of three-day group workshops in prisons and communities around Britain, and a six-week distance-learning course in nonviolence for prison inmates.  AVP’s work is organised and delivered by trained and closely supported volunteers, supported by a small staff.  The organisation has a strong sense of the values of nonviolence and seeks to embody these through how we work; volunteers participate in decision-making through committees and an annual gathering.

We believe AVP has huge potential for prisons and communities all over Britain; we have grown in the last three years and are now seeking a new Director to support the organisation to reach the next stage in its development.

The successful candidate will need to possess excellent skills for working with others, a clear understanding of and commitment to the values of nonviolence, and experience of managing complex projects including budgeting and fundraising.  For full details, please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.

Please contact the current Director, David Gee, if you have questions about the role.

Shortlisting is carried out anonymously and based on the Person Specification and Job Description.

Interviews will include an opportunity to meet staff and see the office.

Please apply using our application form (click on ‘Apply now’ to access) and return this to us by 5pm on 6 November.  We expect to hold interviews during the following week.
