North Yorkshire Citizens Advice and Law Centre has an exciting new role available for a Welfare Benefits Supervisor. This role would suit someone who meets the Legal Aid Agency’s supervisor standards. You will be responsible for supporting our welfare benefits projects and helping the team of advisers to provide high quality advice and deal with cases from our generalist service right through to representation at tribunal and court.

About the Role 

You will work with women living in refuge within 7 Pan London boroughs, to devise a support plan that meets their immediate practical and emotional needs and start the process of recovery, linking women into more specialist support services where required. The Multiple Disadvantage Worker will undertake risk assessments, safety plans and identify support needs of women such as accessing benefits, budgeting, and explore re settlement pathways from the refuge. You will promote social inclusion, encourage independence and development of personal resilience.  You will build up support network for women, promoting and enabling engagement with other services. 

About You 

Relevant experience and direct work within specialist support services to women/families with multiple needs. Case work experience, providing proactive and emotional support to women who have experienced domestic abuse and provide the support to enable them to recover and rebuild their lives. Relevant experience around working multi agency and being proactive in relation to multi agency working, with a professional manner.

You must be able to inspire us and our partners and spearhead our public affairs work, including through our National Delivery Plan to unite action to end digital poverty by 2030.

We bring together charities, corporates and government to address the underlying issues stopping families gaining full access to digital services such as education, healthcare and employment. We seek social change through our National Delivery Plan, whilst also delivering solutions in local areas that help real people and provide evidence for change. 

This is an exciting, high profile and fast-paced role, joining our small team and working alongside partners, National Delivery Committee members and our wider stakeholders to effect real change for people. • Building relationships with public, private and third sector organisations, including the wider DPA community.

Healthwatch was set up in 2013 to champion the rights of health and social care users, and hold the health and social care system to account for how well it engages with the public. Its remit covers all publicly funded health and social care services for adults and children.

The Advocacy Project delivers Healthwatch services in Kensington & Chelsea, Brent and Westminster – three of 152 local Healthwatch organisations. We’re building on the important work that’s been done to date, while bringing new insights from the voices of seldom heard and hard to hear groups. 

About the role

The role is to lead the work of Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea, working with a small skilled staff team and a range of volunteers and other community stakeholders. In particular, you will share our commitment to embed user engagement and community development at the heart of the Healthwatch service model, empowering user voices and improving access to health services. 

You’ll have an opportunity to develop the service in line with our ambitious vision. This will include leading on the planning and delivery of targeted projects, supporting a diverse and varied engagement programme, and building relationships with a range of strategic partners. The Healthwatch Manager (Kensington & Chelsea) also takes the lead on managing our local Advisory Board.  You will work closely with the Healthwatch teams in Westminster and Brent. 

Key responsibilities

 Ensure Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea’s work conforms to all required principles, objectives and statutory obligations, and meets all contractual requirements between The Advocacy Project and Brent Council. 

 Manage and motivate a small staff team to deliver an effective and vibrant local Healthwatch.

 Provide leadership to make sure the patient and public voice is heard across health, social care, children’s and other sectors in a continuously changing external environment. 

 Support the effective working of the Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea Advisory Board. 

 Ensure local communities are able to participate fully in our work, particularly those that are least likely to have had their voices listened to. Support these communities in influencing local and national policy. 

 Represent Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea at strategic governance and external meetings with key stakeholders, liaising with nominated Board leads regularly.

LGBTQ+ Heritage Project Worker

Q:alliance provides support, information and representation for the LGBTQ+ people who live, work and play in Milton Keynes and Bedford. We have detailed knowledge of the issues and challenges that organisations and individuals face locally. It’s our goal to create more safe spaces and resources to ensure the LGBTQ+ community is well represented and supported.

This exciting new role will help deliver the directives of a history and heritage project funded by the Heritage Lottery. The project will support the erudition of LGBTQ+ heritage in Milton Keynes, advancing local communities’ understanding of Milton Keynes’ LGBTQ+ history and inspiring a commitment to encapsulating, celebrating, and feeling connected through shared heritage. This post will be key to extending our reach into seldom asked communities, as well as securing relationships with founding community members. This role will support our Communications and Engagement Manager to develop safer spaces for LGBTQ+ local communities through collaboration with partner agencies and delivery of LGBTQ+ cultural competency training to a range of stakeholders involved in the wider project.

You will work cross-departmentally and participate in effective monitoring systems to ensure robust reporting.

Main Responsibilities

• Project Development - Develop and implement the directives of the funded project, supporting key partners in their collaboration with Q:alliance. Communicate project aims with communities and stakeholders and establish meaningful engagement in the concept of encapsulating heritage and celebrating differing LGBTQ+ identities in Milton Keynes. Support the gathering of audio histories and the collection and succession of community artefacts through the archive. Evaluate and analyse impact.

• E-book creation – Support the Communications and Engagement Manager on the development of an E-book to capture the outputs of the project, including key heritage findings and personal stories.

• Event coordination – Plan, organise and support the delivery of history clubs in line with the project plan, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of invested community members. Support the curation of associated exhibition events.

• Stakeholder and community engagement – Work with the Communications and Engagement Manager to plan engagement and outreach activities in line with the directives of the funded project. Forge and support enduring relationships with key partners, strengthening our commitment to building an alliance of cross-sector compassionate advocates for the LGBTQ+ community in its diverse forms.

• Training – Support the development and delivery of LGBTQ+ cultural competency training to a range of stakeholders involved in the project.

What you’ll bring to the team

You will serve as a prominent point of contact for the LGBTQ+ Heritage Project and encourage long-term advocates of our organisation and the community’s engagement in history, heritage and legacy work. You will elevate the team’s commitment to the funded project, providing concentrated time and resources to ensure its success. You will improve the ways in which our team communicates and responds to the needs of seldom heard members of the LGBTQ+ local community, inspiring innovation in our engagement with heritage concepts.

The Project Assistant will have responsibility for the following documents.

• Heritage Lottery Grantee Monitoring documents and final report

• Monthly reports to the Communications and Engagement Manager
