This role covers a specified geographical location in the Southwest of England - Cornwall and Devon. The hours are ad hoc, as and when required in line with our visit schedule. It is essential that you have a driving licence and an appropriate vehicle for work purposes or the ability to travel in line with the requirements of the role.
As part of the onboarding process, you will be provided with training in the Devon/Cornwall area or in the Sussex/Surrey area for a minimum of 1 week.

Mid-Level Giving Officer
Position Objective:
The Mid-Level Giving Officer will support PETA’s impact and growth through their work with an exciting portfolio of mid-level donors typically giving £250 - £999 size gifts. They will be responsible for managing all aspects of cultivating, stewarding and soliciting from this pool of valued supporters, including Vanguard Society Members, to provide a first-rate donor experience while deepening members’ engagement and financial support. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain a portfolio of Vanguard Society donors and prospects
- Creating engaging donor journeys and presenting opportunities for deeper engagement
- Develop and implement donor-specific plans of strategic communication touches by phone, email and mail. This will include updates on PETA’s progress and victories, messages of gratitude, invitations to events, and asks to donors to increase their financial support.
- Manage a portfolio of Vanguard Society and mid-level donors, each giving £250 + or with the capacity to make annual gifts at a higher level (at one time as well as cumulatively), including cultivating and stewarding each donor to increase their engagement and giving.
- Solicit and close gifts from assigned mid-level donors.
- Regularly qualify new prospects and donors in their capacity, inclination, affinity, and readiness to give.
- Track and achieve key activity and revenue metrics, while meeting weekly with the manager to report on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Ensure that mid-level donors’ database records are updated in a timely fashion. Document pertinent information (meetings, correspondence, notes, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing and developing PETA's donor database.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other teams and colleagues, including legacy, direct response, data, prospect research and communications, to enhance the donor experience and ensure that efficient processes are in place.
- Stay up-to-date on mid-level fundraising techniques and methods used in the nonprofit sector and attend professional-training opportunities as well as weekly coaching and progress reporting meetings
- Conduct oneself in a professional, friendly and truthful manner to donors.
- Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor.
- Acknowledge, thank and recognise donors appropriate to their level of support, and ensure restricted gifts are appropriately allocated
- Work with key PETA staff to find ways to engage donors in our mission, including by meeting supporters face to face or over the phone
- Monitor donors’ motivations and help to contribute to tailor cultivation events
- Maintain a clear understanding of – and the ability to articulate – PETA's objectives as well as details of specific PETA programmes
- Keep all donors in the portfolio up to date on the campaigns and initiatives of PETA and our affiliates
- Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing donor profiles, including demographic, donation, correspondence, membership, and personal information for Vanguard Society members
- Maintain and expand knowledge of relevant departmental software (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, NXT, etc) in order to improve communication with donors
- Assist with the preparation and proofreading of mailings and other communications, as needed
- Monitor the acknowledgment process at Woods, working closely with staff to ensure that acknowledgements and welcome packs are sent out efficiently and that queries are passed to us within the agreed timeframe

Millions of fans watch or attend British horseracing’s 10,000 races per year at 59 racecourses, making it the second highest spectator sport in GB. Funding from the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) supports almost every aspect of the sport – such as regulation and integrity, marketing and promotion, veterinary science, equine welfare, people development, community engagement and prize money for participants.
HBLB is an Arm’s Length Body of Government, responsible to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Unlike some NDPBs, HBLB receives no central Government grant-in-aid and no National Lottery funding. Instead, it is required by the Act to collect a statutory levy from the horseracing business of bookmakers (c.£100 million p.a.). HBLB applies those Levy funds to a wide range of schemes in direct support of horseracing and in line with statutory objectives:
- The improvement of breeds of horses
- The advancement or encouragement of veterinary science or veterinary education
- The improvement of horseracing
The Financial Controller (FC) will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leading the Finance Team with line management responsibility for all four members. This team is highly competent, reliable, and experienced in what they do. The Financial Controller has responsibility for leading activity across the team, driving high levels of professionalism, integrity and continuous improvement in designing and running effective and efficient operational activity and analysis.
The key responsibilities of the Financial Controller will be:
- Assist the CFO in developing and maintaining a framework of performance and risk management including the HBLB three-year business plan.
- Manage and control the framework of bank accounts including assisting the CFO in decision-making on all treasury matters.

The successful candidate will have:
- You must be ACCA, CIMA or ACA fully qualified with at least three years’ PQE.
- You will have led a team or teams during your career
- You will have experience of managing budgets and forecasts, dealing with external stakeholders (such as internal and external audit), and have been involved in risk management and performance management.
- Practical experience of IFRS accounting standards and ideally public sector Annual Accounts and Report production.

At our North West London Home, we are recruiting a Head of Kennels who will share our compassion and commitment for animal welfare to provide front line leadership to our team of Kennel and Animal Care staff and volunteers. We care for up to fifteen dogs on site, in addition to dogs placed into foster homes. Our Head of Kennels is responsible for managing the day-to-day smooth running of our kennels and maintaining the wellbeing of all dogs in our care, so that their individual physical and psychological needs are catered for adequately, and in line with our standards and ethics.
This is a high profile and hugely important role for Mayhew as our Head of Kennels oversees each dog's journey through Mayhew from in-take to assessment and then to rehoming. Working with staff and volunteers across the Home, foster carers, adopters, other charities and rescues and members of the public, our Head of Kennels is instrumental in ensuring that our dogs have all they need - from feeding, exercising, cleaning, and socialising to finding their perfect forever home. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Neutering Finance Assistant. You will join us working 35 hours per week, on a 6 month fixed-term contract. You will be based at our National Cat Centre in Chelwood Gate, East Sussex with the opportunity to work from home a few days a week. This is a hybrid role and you will be required to attend the office 1-2 days a week, with the rest of the week spent working from home (or in the office if you prefer). Please ensure you are of a suitable commuting distance.

One of the Charity's main objectives is to support neutering. In 2020 we helped 109,000 cats with vouchers for neutering. The neutering finance team record accurate information through our neutering schemes that supports the wider Cats Protection aims and objectives. They develop good working relationships with Veterinary practices and payments are made on a timely basis. They are a team of six, working closely together to help and support each other and the wider Finance department.
Responsibilities of our Neutering Finance Assistant:
As a Neutering Finance Assistant, you will work accurately and diligently processing neutering vouchers and related invoices on a daily basis, checking data entered and responding to vets in relation to query files. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential for this role. You will assist in the checking of neutering statements, ensuring payments have been processed and vet payment details are up to date. You will handle appropriately all telephone, email and written enquiries regarding Neutering Vouchers from other departments, vets and branches, interrogating the system to answer queries and producing reports for vets. Developing knowledge on voucher campaigns, cat neutering and the aims and objectives of Cats Protection to support vets and branches.
What we’re looking for in our Neutering Finance Assistant:
- Strong knowledge and experience of working within an office environment – ideally within a finance team
- Ability to process data accurately and quickly – a keen eye for detail is a must
- Experience of using Microsoft Excel & Outlook to an intermediate level, this is essential as the role is heavily data entry based
- Experience of working in an accounts receivable or accounts payable department – desirable
- Experience of using accounting software/systems or a similar type of database desirable but not essential
- Experience of developing good customer service

Joining our People & Organisational Development team, you’ll initially have a strong focus on helping to shape and continuously improve our volunteering programme across our sites. This role will then have the opportunity to develop into a generalist HR/People role.
This role could suit someone with similar experience in a volunteering support/ coordinator role who is interested in developing a career in HR/People, or someone from an HR background within the charity sector.
Role & Responsibilities
Initially, your role will predominantly be focussed on improving and transforming volunteer management and experience at our organisation for the first 12 months. There will also be HR/People elements which long term, will expand further into more of a generalist role.
- Act as the supporting partner to our volunteer managers, guiding them through processes and best practice and providing regular training

You would be responsible for your share of the legacy administration portfolio in the UK, using the FirstClass database and our donor CRM system. You would report to the Global Legacy Administration Manager on a day-to-day basis.
Role and Responsibilities
As our legacy officer, you will be responsible for:
· Managing a caseload of legacy gifts: This includes pecuniary, residuary and life interest legacies, ensuring IFAW receives its full entitlement in a timely manner. This may at times include a small selection of complex or contentious cases, to work on with support from your manager.
· Working closely with solicitors, executors, and beneficiaries: You’ll provide accurate and sensitive support throughout the probate process, building trust and ensuring a smooth experience for all parties involved.
· Maintaining meticulous records and reports: You’ll ensure accurate financial and contact records are kept, reports are generated on time, and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements is met. You’ll raise data integrity or GDPR suggestions and take corrective action, as agreed.
· Providing recommendations for action: You’ll provide your suggestions to move forward any legacy case where action needs to be sanctioned by management or Trustees, or where there may be a risk to the charity's reputation.
· Assisting with monthly/annual reconciliation and audit: This includes following our financial rules to make appropriate accruals, adjustments, and provide audit-ready case files.
· Liasing with other teams within IFAW: When appropriate, you’ll work collaboratively with other teams, such as Finance, Donor Relations or the Legal team, to ensure a seamless process for legacy gifts, and to promote the legacy team’s recognition and standing in the organisation through internal communication.
· Staying up to date on relevant legislation and best practices: You’ll be a member of the ILM and regularly keep abreast of changes in the world on legacy case management, to ensure IFAW’s legacy administration remains efficient and compliant
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· 1+ years of experience in legacy administration: You’ll have a strong understanding of probate laws, Wills, trust, and estate administration. Experience of using FirstClass is desirable.
· Achieved or willing to work towards certification: You have or will work towards gaining the ILM’s Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (CiCLA).
