Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a 12-month maternity cover Grants Officer.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is seeking a motivated and organised Grants Officer to help secure vital funding for nature's recovery across Yorkshire. Working closely with the Grants Manager and colleagues across the Trust, you will research funding opportunities, develop compelling grant applications and manage relationships with trusts, foundations and other grant-making organisations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a direct role in supporting conservation, community engagement and wildlife recovery projects across the region.

You will manage a portfolio of grant applications and reports, identifying and developing new funding opportunities while maintaining excellent relationships with existing funders. Working collaboratively with teams across the organisation, you will gather project information, develop persuasive funding proposals, coordinate reporting and stewardship activities, and maintain accurate records of fundraising activity. You will contribute to achieving fundraising targets and help ensure funding opportunities align with the Trust's strategic priorities.

We are looking for someone with excellent written communication skills and the ability to present complex information in a clear, compelling and engaging way. You will have experience of researching, writing or supporting funding applications, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. You should be confident building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and working collaboratively across teams. Experience of fundraising, grant-making trusts and foundations, project development, CRM databases or the environmental, charitable or conservation sector would be advantageous. Most importantly, you will share our passion for creating a wilder Yorkshire and be committed to helping secure the resources needed to achieve our vision.

Charityworks is a 12-month, talent programme where you will deliver a full time paid job in a partner charity or housing association and have the opportunity to make real social impact.

Throughout the process you’ll be supported and challenged by our programme team, an external mentor from the sector and a peer coach to help you make the most of the year. You’ll come together regularly with your fellow trainees and professionals across the sector to explore key issues affecting your work and society as a whole. Individually, you’ll explore the sector and deepen your understanding of your environment even further by producing your own enquiry and research project.

Job Description

• Job Title: Charityworks Trainee

• Employer: One of our Charityworks partner organisations.  These organisations are subject to change each year but often include a range of non-profit partners from NSPCC, Guide Dogs, Barnardo’s, Christian Aid, Network Homes, Accent Housing and many more. 

• Location: Placements will take place in leading non-profit organisations across a number of locations across the UK. There will be a range of working patterns available including partly remote or blended working possibilities.

• Hours: Usually 9am - 5pm with some flexibility according to the requirements of the placement and your host organisation. 

• Contract: Fixed term, 12 months.

• Salary: The salary will meet the Living Wage as set by the Living Wage Foundation at the time of writing. This is outlined above.

Project & Finance Officer

Location: London (Hybrid working – minimum 3 days per week in the office)

About the Role

We are seeking an organised, proactive and detail-oriented Project & Finance Officer to support the smooth day-to-day running of the organisation across finance, project coordination, fundraising administration and office operations.

This is a varied and hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working across multiple priorities in a small, fast-paced NGO environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting financial processes, grants administration, campaign delivery and organisational coordination, ensuring strong internal systems and effective operational support across the team.

The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams independently.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Administration

• Process staff expenses, credit card reconciliations and invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
• Support payment processing, including setting up bank payments as part of internal dual-control financial procedures.
• Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting internal financial controls.
• Support during the audit by collating documentation, schedules and supporting information.
• Draft service agreements and support contract administration, including maintaining organised records and tracking approvals.
• Support organisational governance, including preparation for Board meetings, drafting agendas, compiling papers and taking minutes.
• Assist with general financial and administrative processes to support the smooth running of the organisation.

Fundraising & Grants Administration

• Set up, maintain and monitor a fundraising and grants calendar, including proposal deadlines, grant start and end dates, as well as financial and narrative reporting deadlines.
• Support donor communications, including individual giving administration and correspondence.
• Track grant and subgrant agreements, monitor signature status, and ensure fully executed agreements are appropriately stored and accessible.
• Support correspondence and administration relating to US foundations and other funders.
• Maintain accurate grant records and filing systems to ensure compliance and effective reporting.

Project & Campaign Support

• Support the delivery of the organisation’s campaigns and advocacy projects, primarily on methane, including coordination across workstreams and follow-up on agreed actions.
• Assist with website updates, newsletters and other communications materials.
• Manage correspondence with companies, policymakers, partners and other external stakeholders.
• Support campaign launches, including coordination of logistics, report production and visual materials.
• Help organise events, workshops and webinars, including technical and logistical support.
• Support partnership working on joint campaigns and advocacy activities, including administration of subgrants and partner coordination.

Office Operations

• Support the smooth day-to-day running of the London office.
• Organise internal meetings, staff activities and office logistics.
• Liaise with building management and service providers as required.
• Coordinate office procurement, supplies and mailings.

Person Specification

Essential

• At least 2–4 years’ relevant professional experience, ideally within an NGO, charity, public interest or mission-driven organisation.
• Experience supporting financial administration, including invoices, expenses, payment processing or financial record-keeping.
• Experience of project coordination, grants administration or organisational operations.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office, including Excel/Google Workspace, and confidence working with databases and online systems.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a small team.

Desirable

• Experience working in an NGO, campaigning or sustainability-focused organisation.
• Familiarity with grants cycle, donor reporting or fundraising administration.
• Experience supporting events, webinars or stakeholder engagement.
• Experience of board administration or governance support.
• Interest in sustainability, environmental issues or public-interest advocacy.

Community Organiser
Salary: £26,950 - £27,972 per annum

• Working with communities to embed a community organising ethos so that positive changes won for nature and wildlife are sustainable
• Facilitating groups to work together on issues that matter to them
• Identifying and supporting potential community leaders, helping them to develop their skills and confidence to lead change

• The ability to build authentic relationships with a diverse range of audiences including global majority and underserved groups
• Comfortable working independently with groups in a variety of locations
• Skills and ability to listen intentionally to a range of viewpoints to identify desired community outcomes, barriers to these, and how they may be overcome
