The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will be an experienced public affairs professional with a passion for nature and understanding of National Parks. 

The successful applicant will join our senior management team, managing the Policy and Public Affairs team and work with the Executive Director  to help develop and drive the NPE policy and public affairs strategy, working closely with stakeholders in our member National Parks and the wider Protected Landscapes family.

This important role will represent FareShare Sussex & Surrey engaging with corporate partners and key stakeholders such as council leaders, politicians and dignitaries across the region. 

Using your experience in engagement and relationship management you will work to consolidate existing partnerships and seek new opportunities across Sussex & Surrey, working to build strong relationships locally and encourage partnership, donations, sponsorships and corporate volunteering. The development team has an ambitious target of £1 million to raise, through various streams including corporate partnerships, individual giving, trust applications and other fundraising activities each year. The role will manage the corporate income stream and requires collaboration with all income generation to ensure effective management and stewardship of all partners.

You will develop an exciting donor journey which engages and encourages support from businesses and key stakeholders. Working with high-value supporters to maintain a good relationship with the organisation and fostering new partnerships. 

You will also work alongside our food Supply Manager to help provide a holistic partnership with our suppliers, encouraging them to support our work across the ESG / CSR spectrum.

Duties and responsibilities  

Business Development and Relationship Management 

• Act as main point of contact for existing corporate partners and stakeholders

• Build strong relationships through a stewardship programme to engage with partners in a variety of ways on a regular basis

• To provide the highest quality supporter care, working in partnership with the business to engage with its staff, maximising fundraising and retain support for the long term

New Business

• Work closely with the Development Team to identify new business opportunities (including charity of the year partnerships) and to develop new relationships with stakeholders across Sussex and Surrey

• To research and approach companies to maximise fundraising opportunities,Develop and promote sponsorship opportunities and corporate partnership offerings

• Create engaging proposition presentations to approach new businesses engaging with them and s other such stakeholders regularly, hosting visits and attending meetings where necessary

Reporting and Monitoring

• Provide regular reporting for trustees and the Development Team

• To monitor and evaluate all aspects of the partnership, reporting on income and engagement.

This new role will lead on Platform’s People and Process functions as we progress through the next stage of our exciting restructure process.

We are a flat-structured organisation that makes decisions collectively. We are currently developing and designing a new organisational structure based on sociocracy where staff are supported to work more collectively and strategically across our seven programs.

Roots to Wellbeing project aims:

• Provide a safe and inclusive space for participants to receive weekly support.
• Help participants to connect with nature and socialise with others to feel happier, less anxious and less isolated.
• Support participants to access other beneficial services, where appropriate, including health, social and financial.
• Support participants to move onto outdoor work or volunteering with friends of groups where appropriate.
• Facilitate a positive journey through the service for participants to ensure as many people as possible can access the service.

The role 

The roles has four main areas of work:

1. Leadership and management:

• Lead the Roots to Wellbeing team to reach its goals. 
• Line manage and support three Mental Health Officers, each delivering Roots to Wellbeing on one site.
• Work with local communities and other team members to explore new opportunities for the project and develop solutions.
• Work with CEO and Head of Fundraising to secure funding for project development.

2. Project management: 

• Oversee the delivery and development of the project to meet key KPIs.
• Collate qualitative and quantitative data and produce impact reports for funders. 
• Support team to ensure administrative records are kept up to date, including but not limited to: maintaining accurate participant records, work programme, incident reporting, risk management, external outreach, website.
• Develop a thorough communications strategy and build on current local referral relationships to further embed the programme within the VCSE & Health sector.
• Ensure service standard and quality is consistent across sites and policies and procedures are followed. 
• Recruit and induct volunteers to support session delivery.
• Work in partnership with stakeholders within and across the organisation to deliver project goals.
• Attend networking meetings and community events to raise awareness of the project and demonstrate its impact. 

3. Session delivery at Hartcliffe Millennium Green: 

• Continually build and maintain relationships with local referral partners to achieve a consistent referral rate into the project. 
• Deliver weekly Roots to Wellbeing sessions by; planning and facilitating delivery of sessions and activities in line with 5 pathways to nature connectedness and that are accessible to all participants, organising logistics of sessions such as travel, food and equipment, acting as safeguarding lead during sessions, liaising with co-facilitator, leading peer-support style check in at the beginning of the sessions and the grounding and meditation at the end.
• Lead on all direct communication with participants at Hartcliffe Millennium Green. Support them to create personalised development plans, signposting and referrals where needed.

• Support the work of the wider charity and specifically the South Bristol team as required.

We are looking for someone who shares our values and is passionate about improving life for both people and nature in Sussex, especially in disadvantaged communities.

Working closely with a committed and extensive team of volunteers and paid staff, and with the support of an established and engaged board of Trustees, you will be steering the work on our vision and leading the team to deliver it.

As the leader of a relatively small charity, you will be engaged with many operational aspects of the organisation.

Taking on the stewardship of the new plot of land will be one of the priorities in the first year.

You will be managing our annual income of around £200K, our part-time managers (admin; orchard planting, scrumping, courses and sites) plus a team of 25 workers and key volunteers engaged in ongoing roles.

Hours can be worked flexibly, though you will need to attend in-person meetings, events and site visits, including some weekends and evenings. We have a kitchen and barn at Stanmer Park, but not an office. All desk work and online meetings will need to be done remotely using your own equipment.

Key responsibilities:

· Figurehead and ambassador for the organisation. Willing to be available for interviews and talks.

· Decision maker. Brighton Permaculture Trust has always been a collaborative organisation. There will be times when quick or difficult decisions are needed.

· Setting budgets and monitoring finances. Draft budgets for our financial year July 2024 to June 2025 are in place.

· Writing/assisting with funding bids. 

· Formal reporting to the Trustees quarterly, plus monthly opportunities to meet with the Trustees for support, collaboration and feedback.

· Leading monthly meetings with the operational managers. Operational managers cover each key area: Scrumped in Sussex, Community Orchards, Brighton Permaculture Trust Sites, Courses & Events and Admin/Compliance.

· One-to-one meetings with operational managers, key contractors and volunteers as required. These can be online or on-site.

· Supporting the wider team to agree on SMART targets for each project and deliver on our strategic goals.

· Attending Brighton Permaculture Trust Apple Days events (3 per year).

· Being the main point of contact for key relationships, including major donors, funders, partner organisations and Brighton & Hove City Council.

· Presenting our year’s achievements to the members at our AGM.

· Line management of 3-5 operational managers as these roles move to long-term contracts

· Representing the Trust at assorted, infrequent external meetings and events would be desirable and require some flexibility in days/times worked.

Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust is one of 46 local, independent Wildlife Trusts and is the charity that works to make the environment of Birmingham and the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton) a better place for wildlife and people through environmental education, community involvement, ecological and practical work.

Volunteering Strategic Project Manager

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Sustrans as part of the UK-wide Volunteering Team, where you will play a critical role to lead on delivering strategic priority projects. 

As the Volunteering Strategic Project Manager you will line manage the England Volunteering Development Officers, lead on the strategic oversight for volunteering across England, and work collaboratively across the team to ensure volunteering is impact-led, embeds equity, diversity, and inclusion, and meets the needs of the organisation as well as the local community.

Contributing to the five-year volunteering strategy, you will ensure continued growth and impact across our successful IT and Digital transformations.

You will build and manage internal and external relationships with key people such as teams and colleagues across Sustrans, along with Partner Agencies, public and volunteering stakeholder groups and potential funders.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans.

About you

You should have substantial experience of end-to-end project management, as well as leading a team through transition and a change to working practices. You will also have demonstratable success in leading and delivering multiple projects within volunteering or community-based activity.

You will be skilled in leading, inspiring, motivating and developing a team.

We ask you to demonstrate your knowledge of contemporary best practice in volunteering, as well as a knowledge of volunteer digital systems.
