We’re looking for a new Community Rail Support Officer based in southern England and the Midlands, to support our network of community rail partnerships (CRPs) and station adoption groups.
About us
Community Rail Network is a not-for-profit organisation, working across Britain, supporting a growing ‘community rail’ movement, which helps communities get the most from their railways, promotes sustainable and inclusive travel, coordinates volunteering and place-making, and brings people together.
Community rail is made up of 75 community-based partnership organisations, and around 1,200 station friends volunteer groups and other community-led initiatives around Britain. Their activities range from creative projects for young people, to advising train operators on service improvements, to building travel confidence with families and disabled people, to biodiversity projects at stations, to promoting greener travel and tourism by rail.
Our enthusiastic team of 22 works mainly from home in different locations, but we come together regularly in person and online. We work collaboratively to advise our members, provide training, events and resources, run campaigns, and champion community rail and its insights via decision-makers and the media. About this role
The purpose of this role is to provide support and advice to community rail partnerships and groups in the South of England and Midlands, on working effectively and delivering maximum benefit to their communities and railways.
You’ll be comfortable engaging and advising local groups and communities to extend existing and set up new initiatives, and to reach wider audiences with an evidence-led, place-based approach. As well as supporting local groups, you’ll work closely with the rail industry, and wider third and public sector partners to ensure collaboration and shared success.
Main responsibilities
- Provide direct support and advice to CRPs and their officers, and other community rail groups in the region. This includes responding to queries and requests, passing on specialist queries to other members of the team, and providing proactive support through our accreditation review process and as set out in our plans;
- Support the development of skills, confidence and effectiveness across the network of CRPs and station groups, helping them to increase their positive social, environmental and economic impact, including through referral to our training, events and resources;
- Support the development of emerging community rail partnerships, station friend groups and community-led stations and railway-related projects in the region;
- Helping our members to work effectively with rail, transport, local government and community partners, supporting effective relationship building and showing positive leadership and insights on community rail within the region;
- Work with the Support Manager on delivery and monitoring of our grant schemes, and support CRPs and groups in the region to apply, deliver successfully and report back on funded work;
- Gather and share examples, feedback and insights from our members across the region, to facilitate best practice sharing and confidence across community rail and to feed into our communications, resources, events and public affairs work;
- As a member of the Community Rail Network team, participate and contribute to our wider work as relevant, such as Community Rail Week, our annual conference and Awards.

- Skills in in supporting community engagement projects; an understanding of and confidence in using community engagement, local communications, project planning and evaluation techniques

- This post is home-based, but with regular travel (including overnight stays) within the south of England and Midlands, and nationally for team meetings
- The Community Rail Support Officer reports to the Support Manager within the Support and Development team
- Hours are 37 hours per week. A degree of flexibility and out-of-hours working (evenings and weekends) will be required, together with some travel and overnight absences
- This is a permanent position and includes a probationary period of three months from the date of appointment

Pay and conditions

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

The role
FareShare has a vibrant Fundraising team that has achieved incredible growth in support across income streams over recent years. About the role

Coetir Anian (Cambrian Wildwood) manages a 142 hectare site near Machynlleth, restoring habitats and species to establish a flourishing, natural landscape and engaging a diverse range of people through education, well-being, and nature connection programmes.
Coetir Anian is seeking a new Fundraising Manager as the charity enters an exciting new phase in its nature restoration and people-land connection work. Much of the funding for the next financial year is in place and the focus is on financing the delivery of our new strategy, which will emphasise inclusive community engagement and storytelling alongside practical nature restoration. Experience with Heritage Lottery or similar applications would be an advantage.
The post holder will work with the Director and other staff to implement an income generation strategy which supports the work of Coetir Anian through unrestricted and restricted income streams.
This role would suit someone with experience of leading grant applications, especially in a small-medium sized charity. Community and major donor fundraising experience will also be advantageous, as will knowledge of funding in the environmental sector. This is a permanent role, full-time for 37.5 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
We are looking for a positive and innovative Visitor Experience Manager to help us deliver amazing experiences for our visitors, connect people with nature, drive visits to our reserve and generate vital income for the protection or our incredible nature and wildlife. This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

Minsmere is the RSPB’s flagship nature reserve based on the wild and picturesque Suffolk coast. About the role:
Exceptional visitor experience will be at the forefront of all you do, from creating and delivering a profitable events programme to developing on-brand signage and interpretation for our visitors. You will be an excellent communicator with experience of people engagement and interpretation, ideally within a visitor attraction. You will develop a marketing plan that drives visits to our reserve and manage our popular social media channels to engage and inspire visitors before they arrive.
Leading a diverse team of staff and volunteers with positivity and enthusiasm, you will be commercially minded and organised to support that team in achieving increased visitor income, footfall, and satisfaction. You will have a passion for people engagement and understand what excellent visitor experience looks like. You will be a great team player who embraces change, inspires others to reach their full potential and enjoys working closely with a wide variety of people from retail, catering and membership to the land management team and the wider HQ support teams.
You will need a full, manual driving licence that is valid in the UK and this role will require regular weekend and bank holiday working so flexibility is essential.

The role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative finance assistant to join our friendly and dynamic finance operations team of 4. You will play an important part in ensuring that day-to-day finance is run smoothly. You will bring strong accuracy and organisational skills and will be able to communicate with a range of staff and volunteers to assist them with finance related queries. This is an entry level role in finance that will suit someone with the desire to learn and develop and who enjoys working in a busy environment.
Main areas of responsibility
Role is focused on accounts payable but will be required to support other areas of the finance department as needed for example to ensure cover during annual leave or helping with month end tasks.
Purchase ledger (80%)
- Process purchase ledger invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with FareShare’s policies and procedures.
- Process staff and volunteer expenses ensuring accuracy and compliance with FareShare’s policies.
- Set up payment runs bi-weekly, ensuring every invoice has been processed accurately, into the correct cost centre and authorised in line with the delegated authority.
- Support with the reconciliations of the creditor accounts; investigate and resolve queries efficiently.
- Support with the new supplier’s vetting process.
- Respond to staff queries and requests in a professional and timely manner.
Sales ledger (20%):
- Support with sales ledger invoice processing as and when required.
- Produce monthly statements of debtor accounts.
- Post and allocate in the finance system the income received.
Other:
- Monitor the finance inbox on a rota basis, respond to queries promptly and redistribute emails to the relevant finance team members.
- Attend office at least twice per week on rotation with other team members to process post received, including cheques ensuring these are banked on the same day
- Demonstrate a professional approach to internal and external customers by responding to requests timely and accurately.
- Work collaboratively with the finance team and in particular with the Finance Officers.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Person Specification
Skills, experience and abilities
- AAT partly qualified and/or previous experience of working in accounts payable roles.
- Excellent numeracy and accuracy skills and attention to detail.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work systematically and to fixed deadlines.
- Ability to use own initiative and work independently whilst taking responsibility as an individual.
- Some experience with finance systems is desirable.
- Basic Excel skills and general IT skills are essential.
