About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with demonstrable knowledge of developing and implementing new policies and processes to ensure best practice in recruitment, retention and engagement.

You will have a background in HR, and ideally, experience working with or supporting volunteers or communities.

You will need to have good IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and a CRM or People Management software.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of People, and with support from the Director of Communities and Inclusion, the HR Officer for Communities and Volunteers will:

• Produce volunteer management policies, procedures and documents to ensure compliance with latest good practice guidance.
• Support staff working with volunteers and other unpaid members of the BES communities to embed best practice in the valuing of unpaid contributors.
• Develop and implement, monitor and evaluate processes for a fair and equitable system of volunteer recruitment, benefits, recognition and awards.
• Identify where the gaps lie in the EDI data of volunteers and actively seek to address these.

We are looking for a creative, compassionate and enthusiastic leader who can help us not only reach but exceed our goals for this project and be the nurturing force to help Roots to Wellbeing develop and grow. 

Roots to Wellbeing project aims:

• Provide a safe and inclusive space for participants to receive weekly support.
• Help participants to connect with nature and socialise with others to feel happier, less anxious and less isolated.
• Support participants to access other beneficial services, where appropriate, including health, social and financial.
• Support participants to move onto outdoor work or volunteering with friends of groups where appropriate.
• Facilitate a positive journey through the service for participants to ensure as many people as possible can access the service.

The role 

The roles has four main areas of work:

1. Leadership and management:

• Lead the Roots to Wellbeing team to reach its goals. 
• Line manage and support three Mental Health Officers, each delivering Roots to Wellbeing on one site.
• Work with local communities and other team members to explore new opportunities for the project and develop solutions.
• Work with CEO and Head of Fundraising to secure funding for project development.

2. Project management: 

• Oversee the delivery and development of the project to meet key KPIs.
• Collate qualitative and quantitative data and produce impact reports for funders. 
• Support team to ensure administrative records are kept up to date, including but not limited to: maintaining accurate participant records, work programme, incident reporting, risk management, external outreach, website.
• Develop a thorough communications strategy and build on current local referral relationships to further embed the programme within the VCSE & Health sector.
• Ensure service standard and quality is consistent across sites and policies and procedures are followed. 
• Recruit and induct volunteers to support session delivery.
• Work in partnership with stakeholders within and across the organisation to deliver project goals.
• Attend networking meetings and community events to raise awareness of the project and demonstrate its impact. 

3. Session delivery at Hartcliffe Millennium Green: 

• Continually build and maintain relationships with local referral partners to achieve a consistent referral rate into the project. 
• Deliver weekly Roots to Wellbeing sessions by; planning and facilitating delivery of sessions and activities in line with 5 pathways to nature connectedness and that are accessible to all participants, organising logistics of sessions such as travel, food and equipment, acting as safeguarding lead during sessions, liaising with co-facilitator, leading peer-support style check in at the beginning of the sessions and the grounding and meditation at the end.
• Lead on all direct communication with participants at Hartcliffe Millennium Green. Support them to create personalised development plans, signposting and referrals where needed. 

4. Other: 

• Support the work of the wider charity and specifically the South Bristol team as required. 
• Representing the charity externally through media work and presentation where necessary.

As a Network Coordinator, you will help bring together groups, organisations and other stakeholders to drive forward campaigns to end north sea oil and gas extraction and secure a just transition for workers and communities. You will play a key role in strengthening the movement, through helping to convene highly impactful campaigning coalitions and networks, seeding and supporting campaign interventions and offering expert support & advice.

Uplift uses research, campaigning, and advocacy to support a just transition away from fossil fuels in the UK on a timeline that is commensurate with a safe climate. We are looking for a Network Coordinator to help drive forward our network building and public campaigning activities across Scotland, and the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to join Uplift at a critical time ahead of a general election and help strengthen the movement away from oil and gas in the UK and towards a just transition for workers and communities.

The role

If you’re passionate about climate justice, especially holding the UK government to account and have a coalition and movement mindset - valuing the importance of movement coordination and generosity, then this role could be perfect for you. You will need a strong understanding of the movement ecology in the UK, especially in Scotland, and understand the unique role different actors play in bringing about change.

Based in Scotland and with a good understanding of the Scottish movement ecology, you will be able to map and bring together groups, organisations, stakeholder and constituents to campaign on fossil fuels. You will strengthen partnerships and scope new allies whilst helping to drive forward campaigning interventions and mobilising groups around key moments throughout 2024 and beyond. You will work closely with key campaigning organisations in Scotland and internally with Uplifts Campaigns and Movement Building team to support network building activities across the UK.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

• Building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, groups and organisations, across Scotland, and the rest of the UK, including with key allies campaigning to end oil and gas extraction.
• Coordinate network building and coalition activities to help strengthen the network of groups organising around a phase out of fossil fuels in the UK.
• Provide campaigning support and advice to groups wanting to take action on north sea oil and gas expansion and a just transition.
• Develop campaign resources and network communications in collaboration with key partners and networks.
• Help design and deliver mobilisations and actions across Scotland and support the execution of campaign strategies and interventions in collaboration with partners.
• Be the first point of contact for groups and organisations in Scotland - holding the central coordination function for Uplift. 
• Facilitate spaces for groups to come together and coordinate timely and effective communications with groups.
• Work with the Campaigns and Movement Building team to help strengthen the networks of groups taking action on fossil fuel campaigns across the UK - particularly during nationwide mobilisations or campaign moments. 
• Be an active member of the Campaigns and Movement building team - participating in and helping to shape campaign and network strategies whilst contributing to a healthy team and organisational culture.
• Represent Uplift externally at events, coalition meetings and network gatherings. Carry out media spokesperson activities where appropriate.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have: 

• Experience in a similar or related role.
• Be based in Scotland and have a good working knowledge of the wider movement ecology in Scotland.
• A track record of guiding and supporting effective campaigning coalitions.
• A good understanding of campaign strategy and an ability to know when to apply a range of tactics based on target, audience and the campaign cycle.
• Previous experience of movement building, including an understanding of the principles of mobilising and organising and an appreciation of the role different actors (the grassroots, NGOs, unions etc) play in social change.
• A strong commitment to Uplift’s mission and core values of equity and climate justice.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build strong, trusting relationships with a variety of groups and organisations, as well as with colleagues (through written communications, online calls and in-person gatherings).
• Highly motivated, collaborative and organised - able to coordinate fast paced campaigns across multiple networks.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Volunteer Manager to join the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew).  Volunteers contribute significantly to the delivery of Kew’s mission, supporting all aspects of Kew’s work notably in Horticulture, Science, visitor engagement, schools, community and access programmes and Galleries.  We currently count on over 800 volunteers across our two sites - Kew Gardens in west London and Wakehurst, our wild botanic garden in Sussex. 

The volunteering function sits within the Gardens directorate in the Learning and Participation department but has an organisational-wide remit, working closely with business areas such as Horticulture, Science, HR and H&S. There is a devolved structure for the management of volunteers with a full time Volunteer Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the centre with responsibility for delivering the Volunteer Strategy and associated KPIs, policy and procedures. This central resource support is vital for the continued expansion and development of the volunteering programmes in a coherent and equitable way and to a uniformly high level.

The Volunteer Manager will engage with all volunteers, including those under 18 years of age and vulnerable adults. An Enhanced DBS check is required.

About You

We are seeking an experienced volunteer manager who will ensure our volunteers, and staff who coordinate them, have the skills and support they need to confidently and consistently perform their roles to support the implementation of Kew’s Manifesto for Change.

You will manage the central function for volunteers across Kew Gardens and Wakehurst, supporting processes linked to recruitment, selection, induction, training, pastoral care and leavers.  You will have excellent knowledge of the UK volunteer sector and understand the legal context of engaging volunteering and how it differs from employment. With excellent IT and administrative skills, you will be experienced in collecting, maintaining, analysing and reporting on volunteer data. 

You will be an ambassador for Kew’s volunteers and a visible presence for all volunteers, advocating for them internally and externally. Your strong interpersonal skills will ensure excellent levels of communication with volunteers and staff, and this will include representing volunteers on Kew’s Leadership Forum and chairing the Volunteer Steering Group.

This role is based at Kew Gardens with occasional regular travel to Wakehurst and occasional travel within the UK. There will also be the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

• Contribute to the development of Synchronicity Earth’s processes and systems around partnermanagementand due diligence.

Skills and experience required

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field.

The Canal & River Trust is a charity entrusted with the care of over 2000 miles of canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs in England and Wales. These historic, natural and cultural assets form part of the nation’s strategic and local blue-green infrastructure network, linking urban and rural communities as well as habitats. Our waterways contribute to the health and well-being of local communities and economies, creating attractive and connected places to live, work, volunteer and spend leisure time. They also play an important role in mitigating the impact of climate change and provide valuable habitats and much-needed biodiverse corridors for wildlife.

We are currently recruiting for a F2F Fundraising Performance Coach's. The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of excellent fundraising results and fundraising compliance standards and specifically the delivery of performance improvements in our F2F fundraisers through coaching, training, and continuous development. The role will also involve direct fundraising where you will be expected to meet a personal target.

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for coaching the performance of multiple teams in the region that will consist of lone workers, pairs of fundraisers to bigger teams as the income plan increases.
• Responsible for an individual fundraising target and set of KPI’s that include inspiring people to become long-term monthly donors, generating income through contactless one-off donations and acquiring newsletter prospecting sign ups in a range of locations including residential door-to-door, town and city centres, private venues, and events and more commonly on our private land, the canal and river Towpaths.
• Acting as a hands-on fundraiser who leads by example, delivering fundraising income through signing up Friends and generating contactless income whilst demonstrating the Canal & River Trust ‘s values and behaviours.
• Generating income and being present on-site to visit fundraising teams, fundraise with them, cover sickness absence, coach performance, provide training & development of fundraisers, reinforce our culture of health & safety, embed compliance standards.
• Provide phone coaching and in-person coaching of fundraisers to support meeting their targets and KPI’s and in individual cases working with fundraisers to improve their results from their current level of performance to the required standard by equipping them with the technical and psychological training to work to their very best.
• Identify training requirements and deliver on and off field training and coaching to grow income.

• Working with our partner recruitment agency to arrange interviews, send out communications to candidates and sit on the interview panel with the aim of recruiting and onboarding new F2F fundraisers into the F2F programme.
• Support the delivery of performance incentives and setting up/editing teams on Evergiving and the rota.
• Provision of daily reports of observations and actions taken, areas of success, results for that day and areas of training and development identified.
• Process all sensitive and data protected information obtained by donors as confidential and in a safe and secure manner in line with the Trust’s GDPR and Security Procedures.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

St John’s Churchyard / The Bridge At Waterloo

St John’s Churchyard, Waterloo Road, SE1 8TY is a remarkable, award winning (Green Flag and Silver in London in Bloom) urban garden in the centre of London. It is maintained by St John’s Church and its sister-charity The Bridge At Waterloo. It has exceptional potential as an urban community garden while retaining its reputation for interesting planting. We are seeking a Community Gardener to help us make our vision a reality.

The Bridge at Waterloo (TBAW) is a secular social enterprise founded by St John's Waterloo (SJW) to reduce inequality and unemployment – through creative therapies, employment training and practical emotional support – for marginalised groups in Lambeth and South London.

What are we looking for? For this role, we are seeking someone responsible for:

· Maintaining and creatively developing this beautiful and historic churchyard garden.

· Taking responsibility for agreed operational planning within the garden.

· Establishing and extending volunteer involvement in its upkeep.

· Liaising with other community and voluntary groups within the local area, identifying partnership opportunities where appropriate.

· Ensuring the maintenance of good standards of horticultural practice.

· Promoting sustainability and increasing ecological diversity.

· Ensuring that the garden is tidy and litter free on work days.

· Assisting with the recruitment, co-ordination, support and supervision of our existing garden volunteers, some of whom have special needs.

· Identifying the relevant educational needs of our volunteers and finding accredited training if appropriate.

· Ensuring all relevant health and safety standards are met. Conducting and reviewing risk assessments as required.

· Making the Churchyard an accessible and practical resource for TBAW’s wider work in the community, liaising with TBAW’s Outreach and Engagement Officer and supporting their off-site community gardening work when necessary.

· Being responsible for the proper use, maintenance and safe storage of all plant, machinery, tools and equipment.

· Overseeing and carrying out monitoring and evaluation of work in the churchyard, including outreach engagement, budgets and projects.

· Attending staff meetings for SJW and TBAW as well as project meetings with TBAW team, reporting on all relevant matters.

· Upholding all TBAW’s and SJW’s policies and procedures.

· As required, undertaking some additional duties commensurate with the post, including working flexible hours and occasional weekends if possible.

We are looking for a Volunteering Leader to be based with our London South East Operations Team (E14 9ST)

Our Volunteer Leaders:

• plan and deliver a wide range of volunteer activities and events, assist operational teams in their task management of volunteering activities and liaise with volunteers, volunteer groups and supervisors.
• deliver day-to-day works in Operations & Environment, such as general maintenance & repair work. This will include operating waterway control structures (further training will be provided) and tow path repair/cleaning. 

You will be required to work an annualised hour’s system which includes working a rota system including some statutory holidays, weekends and an 'on call' system. 

It's a diverse and rewarding role through which you can make a real difference on our waterways and within our communities by collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders and volunteers to bring volunteering efforts to life. 

Occasionally you may also be required to work in other areas of the region to support delivery of London & South East operations team projects.

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

Your first 6 months in role: 

• Help to identify the tasks where volunteers could help the team.  Work with the team to understand the roles.
• Review the skills required against our existing volunteers and look to recruit new volunteers. 
• Help to embed the volunteers within the team, train and assist the Task Managers to manage volunteers.
• Identify the skills and role for a Lead Volunteer and help to recruit, train and embed a Lead Volunteer(s) within the team.
• Induct and lead the volunteers and help to develop the volunteer role within the team. 

Key accountabilities:

• Provide support to the Asset Management Team in the recruitment and selection of Volunteers.
• Support and advice the Task Manager in the management of volunteers.
• Liaise with the wider volunteering team within the Regions to understand the skills of available within the existing volunteer population and how this could assist the Asset Management Team.
• Liaison with volunteers and volunteer groups to understand their current capabilities and aspirations.  Match these skills to the volunteering opportunities within Asset Management and advice on how to best meet the objectives of both parties.
• Assist in the preparation of the volunteer requirements for the Asset Management Team.
• Assist in the development of lead volunteers for the team.
• Management of volunteers in the delivery of works to ensure they are completed safely and to the correct quality, whilst maintaining volunteer satisfaction.
• Co-ordination of staff, vehicles and equipment for the efficient delivery of volunteer works.
• Co-ordination of training for volunteers to maintain and improve skills levels necessary to carry out works with Asset Management.
• Promotion of a strong safety culture to ensure all works are completed with safety as a priority thereby ensuring the wellbeing of staff, volunteers and customers.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

It is essential that our new team members can settle in and enjoy the varied work we perform, so you really must love physical outdoor work all year around, and have a genuine appreciation for respecting the needs of nature, environment and our millions of waterway visitors.  Our waterways are not just for short visits by day users or holidaymakers, thousands of community members live on our boats all year and you will be playing a role in caring for their home, their space.

It is also essential that you are comfortable dealing with the public, and can respond to the unexpected with thought, care, respect and a positive practical approach. Knowledge of the Trust’s volunteer management system and process is preferable.

You might have practical skills and many years of working experience to offer, or you may just be starting out in your career and looking for a role which calls on your practical nature.  You don't need to be an expert in any field, but you will be able to demonstrate that you hold the values and behaviours that ensure our customers and visitors know we care.

Technical:

• NVQ Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 in an appropriate subject or equivalent previous experience, desirable.

• Proven experience of working with and leading volunteers.
• Proven experience of delivering works to time, specification and budget.
• Some experience in customer service.
