Westway Trust is seeking a qualified accountant to join as our Head of Finance who will lead on all aspects of the finance function to achieve the Trusts goals.  You will also manage a small team and will offer strategic finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the organisation.

You will have significant experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation and registered charity, and will possess the right blend and balance of strategic, communication, innovation and people skills.

Key responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Lead, manage and improve the Trust’s finance function and provide accurate, timely and relevant financial reports as required by the CEO, Executive Team and the Trust Board.
• Be the Executive Lead of the Finance Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring timely papers to the CEO and to the Committee and Board as required and liaising with the Head of Governance and HR as required.
• Ensure the provision and reporting of financial accounts, forecasting and large-scale project/programme budgets, estate development plans, and the associated reporting.
• Oversight of the legal and financial statutory processes in line with the Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, including the Annual Audit. Allocating tasks for timely responses and keeping all colleagues abreast of progress.
• Monitor, cash flow, reserves, analysis of performance against the organisation’s annual business plan and dashboard as it relates to the finance function.
• Contribute to the overall leadership of the Trust and to the Trust’s future strategic and operational planning. Support Executive Team colleagues as required on the delivery of cross-team initiatives.
• Line management of the Senior Finance Manager, the Debt Recovery Consultant and the Development Partnerships Lead.

Essential Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• Significant and successful experience of operating as a Head of Finance, ideally in a charity setting.
• A track record of working collaboratively with a team to develop successful internal partnerships and achieve joint success against shared objectives.
• Experience of the finance function and all the associated processes, with strong attention to detail.
• Experience of implementing enhanced reporting tools within financial software, including the ability to coach others.
• Practical knowledge of VAT, including accounting of partial exemption relevant to charities.
• Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
• Strong interpersonal skills for both workplace and external representation contexts, operating with enthusiasm, flexibility, energy and commitment and demonstrating credibility and gravitas.

Desirable Experience, Skills and Attributes:

• A good understanding of the local area.
• Experience of change management.
• Competency in use of Access Dimensions, Focal Point and other MS Office software packages.

Qualification:

• Must hold a formally recognised professional accounting qualification.

What we do

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the ENN team as our Management Accountant - Grants.  The role provides the opportunity to work across the spectrum of ENN’s projects, as part of the operations team. You will be based in our headquarters in Oxfordshire and will work closely with ENN’s Finance Manager and Projects Team.

 About You

Bringing your experience of third sector accounting to ENN, you will be able to communicate well with both finance and non-finance stakeholders. You will be comfortable supporting complex projects, tailoring financial management information and reports to enable decision making and assuring donor compliance and reporting requirements are met consistently.

Terms and Conditions

• Hours of work: Part time, 60% of full-time hours (22.5 hours per week – pattern to be agreed)

• Location: This is an office-based position at ENN’s Head Office in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, OX5. Some hybrid working may also be offered. Currently our Operations Teamwork from the office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and we require this role to be in the office on these days.

Key responsibilities

 Grant compliance and reporting

• Financial compliance of grant spend in line with donor agreements ensuring no disallowable costs and that all allowable costs are reflected in the accounts correctly.
• Provide back up for grant financial reporting in the format required by donors for the projects team to review, collate and submit with the full donor reporting pack.
• Raise sales invoice to the donor with all back up attached and provide acknowledgement of funds letters upon receipt of cash in the bank.
• Work closely with the Finance Assistant and Projects team to ensure invoices are correctly coded to the right donor and project and complete month end reconciliations
• Input budget and quarterly reforecasts into the finance system (iplicit) and track grant performance against budgets on a regular basis providing variance analysis.
• Review and assimilate grant financial information for the Finance Manager and/or Project team as required which ultimately will be used as input in management reporting for various stakeholders (Technical budget holders, Management Team and Trustees).
• Support the organisation’s income generation ambitions, through the provision of advice, guidance and assistance, and in assisting with funding bids and budgeting and undertaking new funder/partner financial viability assessments as required.
• Maintain and update donor restricted fund balances/movements for year-end statutory reporting.
• Maintain project financial files and records for statutory audit and donor audit purposes.

Management accounting

• Prepare monthly income deferrals and income accruals and maintain month end trial balance reconciliations for management accounts.
• Capture any committed project costs to accrue.
• Apportion any interest earned from grant cash in the bank in line with donor contract terms.
• Work collaboratively with the Finance Manager on cash flow forecasting with regards to expected donor payments.
• As required by finance or the projects team, and working with iplicit, write reports in the finance system that would provide insightful and useful management information. For example, for grant monitoring and evaluation, trend analysis and assessing KPI’s etc
• Support the Finance Manager in capacity building and providing financial training to finance and non-finance staff.
• Provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager with regards to specific financial projects, as required.
• Bank signatory for creditor payments in line with ENN’s Delegation of Authority Policy.
• Provide cover for the Finance Manager when necessary.

Essential requirements

• Professional accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, would consider part qualified or qualified by experience)
• Experience of charity-specific accounting and grant reporting requirements
• Experience working with grant funded projects and ability to navigate and communicate compliance requirements
• Experience in developing, monitoring, and reporting against budgets
• Able to present and visualise data in different ways for different audiences
• Ability to manage a diverse and busy workload, prioritising effectively, and able to work both autonomously and as a member of a dispersed and diverse team

About Our Client

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial management of St George's Weybridge, a £30m business with over 500 staff. The post holder will fulfil a wide range of responsibilities and roles in connection with the financial strategy, accounting and general financial management of the School. The post is the most senior finance professional on the staff and reports directly to the Bursar, who is effectively the CFO/COO. As such, the Director of Finance has frequent direct contact with Governors and the Heads and attends the Governors' Finance and Risk Committee meetings.

Job Description

• Formulate the financial strategy of the School alongside Governors and the Executive Leadership Team (consisting of the two Heads and the Bursar).

• Being responsible for accurate and timely tax returns and tax reclaims, with professional advice where necessary, preparing recommendations for mitigating potential VAT and any other tax liabilities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

IT

· Ensure all staff have IT equipment from their first day of work, ensuring that they are able to access the IT support they need with minimal interruption to daily tasks.

· Keep a record of all IT equipment, key information and renewals due.

· Be the first point of contact for IT provider, leading on Cyber essentials & annual IT audit.

· Lead on the implementation of strategic IT goals.

· Support the Continuous Improvement Officer to find new ways of working and ensure we stay up to date with emerging IT trends.

Data

· Maintain organisational databases, ensuring all data is accurate, meaningful, and compliant with the requirements of current and potential funders, as well as Upbeat’s policies and procedures for data.

· Liaise with Data consultants to manage workflow of data requests.

· Present data in a useful manner for stakeholders.

· Play a key role in the organisation around GDPR and Data Protection.

· Be responsible for the confidential maintenance of service user records and other relevant documents in line with Data Protection legislation (e.g. data protection impact assessments).

Facilities

· Support with office management processes (ordering stationery and equipment).

· Support in the efficient use of premises (organise key holder rota, complete regular checklists).

· Support with risk management and Health and Safety compliance (risk assessments, checklists, PAT checks).

Administration

· Provide administrative support to the charity’s projects (topping up payment cards, phone lines, donation admin).

· Assist with organising and monitoring staff training.

· Assist with the review and writing of policies and the staff handbook.

· Assist with process mapping across the organisation.

Other

· Make an active contribution to the overall work of Upbeat Communities through team meetings, staff training, awareness and fundraising events, and any other appropriate activities.

This new role will lead in the development of the financial resilience and overall vision of the organisation to achieve a strong, effective and ethical finance function.

Working closely with the core staff team, Treasurer and the Finance team, it will develop and maintain financial policies, systems and procedures to enable smooth financial management and transparency.

This role will lead on financial reporting and financial oversight, working with the Management Group and the Treasurer/Trustee team to enable financial compliance and sustainability for Platform. 

As part of building more resilient financial systems, this role will lead and develop our fundraising function, including reviewing and building the systems, processes and policies that enable an effective long-term fundraising strategy.

Hours: 4 days: 32 hours per week based on a 40 hour week, flexible hours possible.

Salary: Baseline salary as of March 2024 is £42,248 pro rata  (£33,791 at 4 days a week) and is subject to Platform’s Socially Just Waging System.

• Financial management 

  • Strategic Development

· Due Diligence: Conduct full operational due diligence on potential offers to be listed on the platform. This includes KYC, legal entity checks and offer document review.

· Offer management: efficiently and effectively managing the end-to-end process of creating, reviewing, tracking offers. This includes administration of post-close payments and investor updates. Serve as the central point of contact for enquiries from both the issuing clients as well as investors.

GFS is a feminist organisation with a mission to empower girls and young women in England and Wales to live their best lives. Girls as young as 6 tell us that they cannot be themselves. This causes problems for them and society. So, we offer an early intervention service for girls living in areas of deprivation to have the greatest impact.

This is an exciting role with an opportunity to lead the charity into the 150th Year of delivery and with a new strategy to address need. A medium sized health education charity is seeking a Finance Officer on a full-time, permanent basis.

The organisation is an established charity that provides information and guidance on various aspects of veganism. Services range from general advice on vegan lifestyle – diet, travel, shopping etc, campaigning activities, additional services to charity members, and the certification and labelling of products based on their internationally recognised Vegan Trademark.

The organisation has around 65 staff with a turnover of around £4 million annually. Their central offices are in Birmingham, however this role can be taken on almost exclusively remotely – it is anticipated that there will be approximately 6 journeys per year required either to the Birmingham office or another mutually agreeable location – for staff events and meetings.

The role sits within a small finance team of 3, and will be highly varied covering most aspects of transactional finance. The starting salary is between £29,413 - £31,508, however they have regular salary reviews and growth in the role is possible. They also have an excellent benefits package including a pension scheme, employee assistance programme, 28 days leave + bank holidays, plus additional leave available as part of a sustainable transportation climate perks policy.

The ideal candidate will be AAT part-qualified with experience in a similar Finance Officer level role. Exposure to double-entry bookkeeping and an understanding of charity finance would be an advantage. Experience with Sage accounting is also useful. The organisation is a flexible employer and although the role is ultimately permanent they welcome applicants wishing to be considered on a part-time basis as part of a job share, and will also consider candidates on a shorter term fixed term contract basis if this is preferable to a permanent contract initially.

It is expected that staff adhere to a vegan lifestyle as much as possible, however being vegan is not a pre-requisite.

Typical duties will include:

-Work closely with the sales team and raise invoices in accordance with the sales process.

-Support the credit control function and chase outstanding payments for renewals and new business.

-Provide up-to-date debtor ledger reports as required.

-Process invoices and expenses for payment ensuring adherence to internal purchase policies and procedures.

-Provide support and guidance to staff members and chase outstanding documentation to ensure correct processes are always followed.

-Investigate, report and where necessary make improvements to minimise non-compliance to ensure robust policies and procedures.

-Support the Finance Manager and make suggestions for continuous improvement of systems and processes to support business requirements.

-Support the management of the finance mailboxes and respond to emails in a timely manner.

-Act as the first point of contact and provide timely responses to internal and external stakeholders, customers and suppliers by email and over the telephone.

Candidate requirements:

-AAT part or fully-qualified

-Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a customer service environment.

-Good working knowledge of day-to-day transactional finance, including all aspects of purchase and sales ledger, credit control, bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation and journal entries.

-A working knowledge of VAT.

-Excellent customer service skills.

-Experience of using accounting software – Sage Cloud /Sage Intact desirable

-Knowledge and experience of working with databases and CRM systems.

-An understanding of charity finance is desirable but not essential
