About The Role

If you’re a technically strong Financial Accountant looking for a role with real ownership, variety and visibility, this is an excellent opportunity to join the Royal British Legion on a 2 year fixed term contract as the lead accountant for a number of subsidiaries within the organisation. You’ll take responsibility for statutory accounts, VAT and corporation tax returns, audit management and month end and year end accounting activity, ensuring accurate and compliant reporting across multiple entities. This is a role where you’ll quickly become a key point of contact, working across different teams and business areas to keep financial processes running smoothly and reporting standards consistently high.

[We’re looking for someone with strong financial accounting experience who enjoys working in a complex environment and can confidently manage competing priorities across multiple subsidiaries. You’ll need solid technical knowledge covering statutory reporting, reconciliations, intercompany accounting and audit requirements, alongside the ability to build strong relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues. This role would suit someone who is naturally organised, analytical and proactive, with the confidence to challenge processes, resolve issues and improve the way subsidiary accounting activities are managed.

This is far more than a standard reporting role. You’ll work closely with teams across Trading, Finance Systems, Data Services and Business Processes, helping to strengthen controls, improve consistency and support the delivery of accurate financial information across the subsidiary structure. From leading external audits and advising on VAT treatment to supporting operational teams and implementing process improvements, you’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact from day one. You will be contracted to our Haig House hub with a minimum expectation of two days per week working in person at the hub and flexibility for working remotely/at home when not on site.

Working closely with the VP of Finance, you will provide strategic financial leadership while remaining hands-on with financial operations, systems migration, board reporting and statutory compliance. This role would suit someone who thrives in a changing environment and enjoys improving processes, systems and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the integration of UK finance operations into a global finance function
• Support the migration from QuickBooks to NetSuite and Barclays to HSBC
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities
• Prepare board reports and provide financial insights to senior stakeholders
• Lead UK audit activity and support statutory filings with Companies House and the Charity Commission
• Review and improve financial policies, processes and reporting frameworks

Essential Skills & Experience

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
• 5+ years' finance experience
• Experience managing change, finance transformation or systems projects
• Board reporting and stakeholder management experience
• Experience managing or mentoring finance staff

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Charity or international NGO experience
• NetSuite implementation or migration experience
• Gift Aid knowledge

Prospectus is proud to be supporting our client, a London-based children's charity, in their search for a temporary Systems Accountant. The role will be focused on the management of reporting systems and purchase order processes.

Responsibilities:

• Support the production of management accounts and financial reports through system-generated data
• Develop and maintain system reports, reconciliations, and performance analysis
• Ensure data consistency across financial systems
• Oversee the monthly close process, including AP, AR, and GL ledgers
• Review and approve journals, identifying opportunities for automation and process improvement
• Ensure accurate period close and prevent back-posting into prior periods
• Provide system support for statutory accounts preparation and year-end processes
• Ensure all submissions (e.g. HMRC, Charity Commission, VAT returns) are accurate and on time
• Maintain VAT configuration within the accounting system
• Manage the fixed asset register, including depreciation, impairments, and reconciliations
• Ensure correct accounting treatment of capital and revenue expenditure
• Provide technical support to finance system users
• Act as liaison between finance, IT, and external system providers
• Manage user access, permissions, and system controls
• Maintain financial controls, including signatories, spending limits, and system security
• Support audit requirements and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations

Requirements:

• Recent, relevant experience in a similar role with a charitable or not-for-profit organisation
• Full accountancy qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, etc), and a good understanding of data and systems
• Strong ability to use relevant digital tools, particularly Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel
• High level of organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
• Collaborative and proactive approach
