The post holder will control all areas of expenditure and on the revenue side, the Accounting Officer will ensure all receivables are accounted for, actualised, and appropriately posted. The Accounting Officer will ensure the accounting software package is optimised and will be expected to prudently manage the CTO’s cash flow and investment activities. The incumbent will work closely with the IT Administrator to develop and/or revise the accounting system that will be used by the CTO.
We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional with significant experience in a similar capacity in an organisation with a comparable scope and complexity. You will have strong finance and accountancy experience, as well as solid analytical skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Specialised knowledge of Pension Fund Management would be desirable, but not essential.

Job Purpose
Your legacy will be a tangible impact on slowing down climate change and helping nature recover by overseeing and leading on financial strategy and income generation and sustainability, across Avon Needs Trees (ANT) at the organisational level and for our projects.
You will secure ANT financially and oversee good fiscal management of all its affairs, helping to deliver on our goals to plant hundreds of thousands of trees and complementary habitats. You will join a fast-growing organisation that started in 2019 with four volunteers and has grown to a staff team of thirteen (which will double over 2024), over 1,000 volunteers and ownership of 170 acres (soon to be 600 acres) of land that will grow woodlands of over 160,000 trees.
We are looking for a positive people-person with commercial development experience, exceptional financial acumen and the ambition to help take ANT to our next level of impact, as we prepare for exponential growth over the next year. As a fast-growing, high impact charity all of our roles have direct operational responsibilities in addition to managing teams and thinking strategically and with vision.
Main responsibilities
● Lead from the front in the development and implementation of a Commercial Trading Arm for ANT and spearhead new sources of income including green finance
● Ensure development of finance models and plans to support Landscape Recovery, including natural capital frameworks and administration of government agriculture subsidies

The Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit a Strategic Programmes Finance Officer on a permanent, part-time basis (28 hours). The Diocese of Winchester (WDBF) and the Diocese of Portsmouth (PDBF) support the Ministry in, and the mission of, Church of England parishes in Winchester and Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
Reporting into, and working closely with, the Strategic Programme Managers of both dioceses, you will take responsibility for providing specific financial reconciliations, monitoring and reporting against the Strategic Development Fund (SDF) and Diocesan Investment Programme (DIP) funding received by the Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth from the Church of England (Archbishop’s Council).
A key aspect of the role will involve financial planning and modelling for future DIP bids. SDF/DIP funding is given for projects within the dioceses that help to achieve their strategic objectives. The role also involves some historic analysis to ensure expenditure is correctly coded to the right project from previous funding.
In this Strategic Programmes Finance Officer role, you will:
- Support the Strategic Programme Managers, liaising with the Finance Team, drafting, costing, and modelling of financial information for future funding/grant bids, ensuring cost recovery for overheads and staff time is included on all projects.
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Strategic Development Team and senior leadership on the financial progress and outcomes of spend to date, ensuring transparency and accountability of the funds received for the various SDF/DIP projects.
- Ensuring any transactions for overheads or contributions to core costs are recorded accurately for costs incurred by SDF/DIP or shared by the WDBF/PDBF.
- Providing information to the Finance Team regarding projects as part of month or year-end processes.
- Support with the preparation of financial reports to Church of England on the funding spend to date at required intervals.
- Review of spend to date on Xledger vs spend expected by SDT to includes comparisons for projects, spend against budget and reconciliations moving forwards.

The role:

This industry leading equality charity is currently seeking a Director of Finance to join their dynamic team on a permanent basis, in this newly upgraded role. Managing a high-performing team of two, you will be responsible for the financial management of the organisation, including longer term financial planning and critical strategic leadership.
The key duties of this Director of Finance role are as follows:
- Be at the forefront of the development and implementation of the charity’s long-term financial plan and longer-term business planning.
- Full responsibility for the production of the annual budget and regular reforecasts.
- Sole charge for running the external audit process and ensuring the timely production of the statutory accounts.
- Coordinate the monthly management accounts production, including the development of the management information pack with supporting variance analysis and commentaries.
- Attend senior management team meetings and present at quarterly Board meetings.
- Manage the relationships with the external Payroll and IT providers.
- Be the organisation’s strategic lead on all things IT, seeking advice from external consultants as required.
This brilliant role will suit someone who has previous experience working in a senior finance role, ideally in the charity sector, who is now looking for the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of a growing charity whilst adding value in new areas. The charity is currently operating on a hybrid working model, with opportunities to work from home for up to four days per week, although flexible arrangements can be negotiated for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will have:
- Achieved their full accountancy qualification or be qualified by experience.
- Ideally, a background working in the charity sector, but this is not essential.
- Demonstrable experience working at a senior level in a finance team.
- Experience presenting at Board level.
- Preferably, experience managing non-finance functions.
- A strong work ethic and brilliant interpersonal skills.

About the role
Central England Law Centre operates busy offices in Coventry and Birmingham from which we provide support to clients seeking support for legal issues ranging from immigration and housing through to employment and health and social care.
This fixed-term role is a pivotal one in supporting our existing billing team, solicitors and caseworkers in the timely and accurate submission of closed client files to the Legal Aid Agency.
The successful candidate will be a natural problem solver, willing and able to work on their own initiative as they collate all the information required to successfully gain financial reimbursement from the Legal Aid Agency. Consistently high levels of attention to detail are a must, as is the ability to work with a wide cross-section of people across the Law Centre.
This is a great entry-level role for somebody with an interest in developing their skills as a cost draftsperson. It is important to understand that this role is an internally-facing one focused on providing a high quality of service to Law Centre staff.This role does not involve direct client contact.
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory references and a basic DBS check.
Responsibilities
Working alongside the Law Centre’s Billing Process Coordinator, the successful candidate will work on a caseload of files which they will review before submitting to the Legal Aid Agency for payment. In compiling these files, they will:
- Liaise with solicitors and caseworkers across the Law Centre in order to understand the work undertaken on client files and deal with any queries
- Develop an understanding of the requirements of the Legal Aid Agency
- Correspond with the Legal Aid Agency and other parties regarding billing and finance
- Ensuring that matters are compliant on the case management system
- Submit queries to the Legal Aid Agency where required
- Maintain accurate records on Law Centre’s in-house case management system
- Complete all required forms, invoices and evidence are compiled for each closed case
