Our Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech is our flagship programme for creating new treatments for Parkinson’s, based on the needs and priorities of people living with Parkinson’s.

We are deploying £5M per year to fund preclinical and early clinical stage projects in biotechs and contract research organisations to bring new treatments to people living with Parkinson’s.

About the role 

You’ll apply expert knowledge of drug discovery principles and practices to guide the deployment of over £25m in funding through the Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech programme. As part of the Virtual Biotech team you will evaluate new project proposals, manage our interactions with funded projects, and liaise with external partners and the Parkinson’s community, whilst maintaining professional knowledge and networks. 

You’ll lead on our funding and oversight of some of our projects and support others; including developing robust project plans with the sponsor, featuring efficient use of external resource providers (e.g. for medicinal chemistry, compound synthesis, computational chemistry, crystallography, ADME/physchem profiling, IP handling).

What you’ll do:

• Provide expert management and leadership for the charity’s ongoing preclinical projects to ensure studies are delivered on time and on budget, and participate in joint steering committees and other advisory meetings, providing expert scientific and strategic insight

• Bring new initiatives and working practices to the Virtual Biotech, as appropriate, contribute to the design and evaluation of novel compounds, and identify and evaluate candidate service providers for project work packages

• Solicit external proposals for new projects and develop internal project proposals, and critically review the relevant aspects of internal and external new drug discovery project proposals

• Represent Parkinson’s UK in collaborations, with consortia and at scientific meetings, and interact with people with Parkinson’s and involve them in projects in order to increase the opportunities to deliver new drugs that meet unmet medical needs

What you’ll bring:

• Extensive drug discovery experience with at least 5 years spent in pharma or biotech environments, and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (Ph.D., M.D., D.Phil.)

• Expert knowledge of small molecule drug discovery principles and practices including experience of compound design and evaluation, and experience of neuroscience drug discovery

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in suitable formats for both scientific and lay audiences, and ability to compile project proposals/reports suitable for scientific and non-scientific audiences

• Track record of proposing new projects, with significant experience of project management and leadership skills from initiation to completion/review including selecting and working with CROs

About you

You will:

• Have an in-depth knowledge of cerebral palsy, its causes, health implications, therapies, and available support due to a personal lived experience.
• Have experience and up to date knowledge of current issues that affect disabled people and those around them, specifically people with cerebral palsy.
• Have at least two years’ experience working in a customer focused environment.
• Have excellent communication skills with an understanding of different needs and being able to respond to these accordingly.
• Have a strong ability to convey complex information in an accessible way and engage diverse audiences.
• Be an excellent communicator who demonstrates effective person-centred listening, empathy, and probing skills to respond to underlying issues and assist customers to make informed choices.

Knowledge of alcohol and health related issues, including the functional model of alcohol use is essential, as is experience of staff supervision/management/training. Familiar with primary, secondary and other outreach settings, you're used to liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals too. What’s more, you have a good understanding of safeguarding issues, and are great at engaging effectively with clients. Good IT skills (we use Microsoft Office) are also required, together with a flexible, can‐do and results driven approach.

We are working in partnership with the Pontesbury Project, who are looking to appoint an experienced Registered Care Manager (NVQ level 5 qualified) to help lead the service, and ensure the continued growth and development of their care provision and maintaining outstanding quality care.

Pontesbury Project is a local charity providing care and homes to adults with learning difficulties in a caring, fulfilling, meaningful and nurturing environment. The Project now cares for around 16 residents, has 13 properties, and employs around 50 staff who provide high quality, specialist, person centred support to individuals some of whom have severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviours, many of whom require 1-to-1 support. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion for care to help lead the service. The new Registered Care Manager will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, playing a significant and valued role working alongside the Nominated Individual and Trustees to ensure the service develops, continues to perform at the highest-level and adheres to all legislative requirements. In addition, the successful candidate must meet CQC Registered Manager requirements.

You will have:

• Experience of a working as a care manager or looking to take the next step in your career
• Excellent communication skills, (oral and written) enable to work closely with families, service users, team leaders, and staff

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure:

• Effective outreach for recruitment onto our programmes
• That women’s programmes run smoothly and that their participants are motivated and supported to complete them through to graduation

• All those we work with for the benefit of women on the programmes are engaged eg. short work placement hosts, mentors and venues for activities

• Liaising with the Programmes Coordinator on the timely production of workshop materials and any other course content useful for participants
• Maintaining excellent relationships with workshop providers
• Ensuring that the Programmes Coordinator is across needs for any 1-1 therapy referrals between women and our float of freelance therapists
• Conducting evaluation surveys with women at the start, end and 6 months after they graduate and ensuring all evaluation data is provided to the freelancer responsible for collating the impact of our programmes annually in a final report, as well as providing any data required by the CEO for grant reports
• Signing off on mentor-mentee matches with the Partnerships Manager who recruits mentors
• Working closely with the Partnerships Manager to ensure they are across which kinds of short expenses/ paid work placements with employers women want to access

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You will be someone who is naturally warm/ a people person, compassionate and enabling, and who also has fantastic project management/ organisational skills. You may come from a senior youth worker background or other front line organisations working with young vulnerable adults.

Essential:

• Substantial senior experience working with young, including vulnerable, adults
• Proven track record of project/ programme management experience to deliver successful learning/ educational events/ activities for young people
• Creative thinker with experience of conducting successful outreach for young people
• Experience of safeguarding with vulnerable individuals
• Exceptional people and relationship-building skills with those from a range of different backgrounds eg ranging from young women for our programmes to employers and other stakeholders who engage with our work and participants

About you:

To be successful in the role of Housing Officer you will need the following skills and experience:

• At least 3 years’ experience working with the Tenancy Standard, Tenant Involvement and Empowerment Standard and the Neighbourhood and Community standard
• Knowledge of regulatory standards relevant to the role
• Experience of delivering excellent customer services that meet individual needs.
• Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives.
• Problem-solving skills with a focus on customer service and satisfaction.
• The ability to drive and have a reliable vehicle available to use for work purposes with business insurance.
• CIH, IRPM, or equivalent qualification or degree (desirable).

At Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice we care for children and young people whose lives are just too short. Our aim is to reach every family that needs our help and to offer them the very best choice of care. Did you know that every year we need to raise £5m to keep our doors open and only around 20 percent of our income comes from government sources? The rest has to be raised through fundraising activity. 

Our services include short overnight stays and community breaks at home or in the hospice. We also support the whole family from diagnosis with our multi-disciplinary Family Support team who provide counselling, sibling support groups, music therapy and much more. Our care team supports these families in our modern, purpose built building. All our rooms/bedrooms have a homely feel. We have a sensory room, spa pool, cinema room and six acres of gardens. 

We support families from a large geographical area, including South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and parts of North Lincolnshire. The hospice is easily accessible from Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield and North Notts. We have free secure on-site parking for families and staff to use.

The role

As part of re designing our services, we are currently seeking three children’s nurses with post registration experience, to join our In House Care Team. You will be working as part of a supportive team consisting of Team Leads, Nurses and care support workers and allied health professionals. Working as part of a team you will provide a high standard of holistic care and be able to balance opportunities for children to experience play, social interaction and learning alongside managing the diverse nursing needs of the children staying with us.

We are looking for resilient, enthusiastic individuals who want to deliver high quality, evidence based paediatric palliative care.

We are looking for a Project Manager who is passionate about making a real difference to communities to lead the Edgbaston Neighbourhood Team. 

The successful candidate will enjoy engaging with people at all levels, from Commissioners and Social Workers to small grassroots community groups. Confident in your communication and presentation skills, whether written or verbal you will enjoy building partnerships and relationships in Edgbaston and the citywide NNS Programme to support and grow the community offer to people aged 50 and over as well as younger adults with additional needs.

Key responsibilities of the Neighbourhood Network Scheme Project Manager will include:

• To lead the project and achieve the key contract deliverables (including mapping assets, facilitating a Steering Group, working with community groups to secure funding for their work, analysing needs and gaps, offering capacity-building support etc.)
• To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the NNS workers
• To manage expenditure within allocated budgets
• To coordinate the sub-contracting relationship with the supporting provider in Edgbaston to achieve NNS outcomes.
• Produce quarterly monitoring reports for commissioning officers
• Create and implement an effective marketing plan to promote the project.
• To manage the process of maintaining accurate and up-to-date records for all activities and ensuring internal and external reporting requirements are met.
• To develop partnerships with key stakeholders such as Health & Social Care Workers and other voluntary sector organisations.
• To represent Age UK Birmingham at strategic partnership meetings.
• To attend and participate actively in all Operations and Management Team Meetings as and when required.
• To ensure risk assessments are carried out for all activities and health and safety procedures are followed.
• To ensure the safeguarding process and reporting mechanisms are followed 

About You

To succeed in the role of Neighbourhood Network Scheme Project Manager, your key skills will include:

• Experience of people management
• Experience in project management
• Experience working in partnership with Adult and Social care teams
• Experience of working within deprived communities, voluntary sector or charities
• Experience with community engagement methods
• An understanding of issues affecting older people and the Adult and Social Care Agenda

Service Assistant Manager - Housing and Homelessness (Sanctuary Emergency Accommodation)

Salary: £27,810 per annum

Our client’s Emergency Accommodation offers short-term accommodation (22 bedrooms), as well as support, meals, and laundry facilities. Staff work with other services to provide a tailored package for each person while helping them towards moving into longer-term accommodation.

They are looking for a new Assistant Service Manager to support the Emergency Accommodation Manager. The Assistant Manager will focus on the day-to-day operations of the service, supporting staff with service users and delegating responsibilities to the staff team. They are looking for a person who has a desire to help people who are experiencing homelessness. You may already have knowledge and understanding of homelessness, maybe through a previous job, as a volunteer, or through your own lived experience. You will be the sort of person who sees people experiencing rough sleeping or sofa surfing as a person, not just as ‘rough sleepers’ or ‘service users’.

You will be self-aware, compassionate, non-judgemental, and have a strong degree of emotional intelligence. You will have excellent skills in communication, prioritisation, and administration. You will be able to inspire, motivate, and encourage others enabling them to grow and develop in their roles. You will be able to respond flexibly, confidently, and professionally to any challenges which arise.
