Hackney CVS is looking for a Development Manager to lead our Organisational Development work and strengthen support for the voluntary and community sector (VCS) across Hackney and the City of London.

This is a key role, overseeing a small team and shaping a high-quality, responsive offer of training, advice and capacity building for local organisations. You will work closely with VCS groups of all sizes, building trusted relationships and ensuring our support reflects the realities they face.

You will also connect insight from the sector with funders, partners and stakeholders, helping to improve access to resources and opportunities. Working across Hackney CVS, you will collaborate with colleagues to ensure our work is joined up, impactful and aligned with organisational priorities.

There is significant untapped potential, including opportunities to re-engage previous funders, develop new relationships and secure support for a range of compelling programmes spanning literacy, education, disability, wellbeing and community impact.

The Senior Trusts Fundraiser will lead this work, partnering closely with the Director to shape and deliver the next phase of trusts fundraising at Calibre Audio. This is a role with genuine scope to influence strategy, develop new opportunities and make a visible contribution to organisational growth. It would suit an ambitious trusts fundraiser who enjoys relationship building as much as writing applications and is motivated by the opportunity to help build something.

As Senior Trusts Fundraiser, you will:

• Develop and implement a strategic trusts and foundations fundraising programme aligned with organisational priorities
• Identify, research and cultivate new funding opportunities, with a focus on larger and multi-year grants
• Build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective trusts and foundations
• Develop compelling, high-quality funding applications, proposals and report
• Secure significant income from a portfolio of trusts and foundations
• Build and strengthen long-term relationships with funders through excellent stewardship and engagement
• Reactivate and develop relationships with previous funders and supporters
• Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to gather impact data and develop compelling cases for support

Essential skills and experience:

• Proven track record of securing five-figure grants from trusts and foundations

• Experience identifying, developing and securing new funding opportunities
• Excellent verbal communication skills and confidence engaging with external stakeholders

Desirable, but not essential:

• Experience securing six-figure and/or multi-year grants
• Knowledge of the disability, literacy, education or wellbeing sectors

IPSEA is a national charity working to ensure that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the educational support they are legally entitled to. Since we were formed in 1983, we have helped to improve the education experience of thousands of children and young people across England. We do this by providing free and independent legal advice and casework support for families, undertaking policy work and delivering training on the SEND legal framework.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a Head of Finance and Resources to provide strategic leadership and operational management across IPSEA’s finance, HR and Fundraising functions, ensuring the charity has robust financial management, effective systems, and sustainable infrastructure to deliver its mission. This role focuses on organisational management, financial integrity and coordination across functions, rather than providing specialist Fundraising or HR expertise.

This is a hands-on role. While the postholder leads on financial strategy, planning and control, they are also responsible for delivering key financial processes and day to day operations. The role oversees key organisational functions including HR and fundraising.

They line manage the Finance Administrator, HR Manager and Fundraising Manager, ensuring alignment, coordination and effective use of organisational resources across the organisation.

Professional expertise and delivery within HR and fundraising remain the responsibility of the relevant managers. The role does not carry responsibility for income generation targets but ensures robust financial and operational support for fundraising activity.

As Head of Finance and Resources, you will be responsible for:

You’ll need to be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent) with a strong understanding and experience of charity finance, SORP, compliance, risk management and governance.

Significantly experienced in charity finance and financial management or organisational resources, you will be able to prepare management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial reports and support budgeting and longer-term financial planning.

You will have experience of managing and motivating staff while working with senior leadership teams and/or trustees.

You have strong organisational and analytical skills and can analyse financial information and translate it for non-financial stakeholders. Experience improving systems, processes or digital infrastructure would be preferred but is not essential.

It would be desirable if you had experience overseeing HR, fundraising or wider operational functions, or managing multi-disciplinary teams.

The Outrunners are a running and movement charity based in Hackney, on a mission to empower young people through movement. We deliver free, fun, sociable, youth‑led running and movement sessions for 8–18 year olds every week - during term time and holidays. But we’re about more than just running. We’re a small charity but we pack a mighty punch. We offered physical, emotional and logistical support throughout their training journey and cheered on every single one of them as they ran either the Hackney Half or the London Marathon under the Outrunners name. Since programme launch, we have worked with over 250 people in our Academies.

• Took diverse groups of young people to races and events, such as Hackney School run and Black to the Trails. 

• Offered personalised mentoring to several of our young people who were struggling with school or life.

• Expanded the career horizons of young people by offering them a free work experience opportunity with our partner brands.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fundraising Strategy & Income Growth (with Chief Executive)

• Develop and deliver a fundraising strategy aligned with The Outrunners’ strategic goals and values.

• Grow and diversify income streams, with a focus on increasing unrestricted and sustainable income.

• Create and manage an annual fundraising workplan to deliver agreed income targets.

• Work closely with the Chief Executive on pipeline management, forecasting and income planning.

• Regularly review progress, learn from outcomes and adapt approaches as needed.

2. Trusts & Foundations (Primary Income Lead)

• Lead and manage a pipeline of trust and foundation applications, from prospect research to reporting.

• Research, cultivate and secure grants aligned to The Outrunners’ youth‑led movement work.

• Write high‑quality, compelling funding applications and reports.

• Work closely with youth programme staff to gather outcomes, case studies and impact data.

• Build strong, professional relationships with funders through excellent stewardship.

• Develop approaches that encourage funder renewal, uplift and long‑term support.

3. Corporate Partnerships (Growth area)

• Support the development of relationships with values‑aligned corporate partners and brands.

• Identify opportunities for corporate grants, sponsorship, employee fundraising, volunteering and matched funding.

• Shape clear and inspiring partnership pitches with cases for support that connect partner goals with youth wellbeing, movement and equity.

• Work with colleagues to ensure corporate partnerships are meaningful, well‑supported and mutually beneficial.

4. Community & Individual Giving (Growth area)

• Support the growth of The Outrunners’ individual giving base, including regular and mid‑level donors, working with CEO and Admin Lead.

• Develop donor stewardship approaches that support repeat and long‑term giving.

• Explore opportunities with local communities, supporter networks and high‑net‑worth individuals.

5. Impact, Systems & Compliance

• Work with our Admin Lead to maintain accurate records across fundraising and income tracking systems (CRM).

• Contribute fundraising content across our website, donor platforms and communications channels, working closely with Marketing & Comms.

• Support the creation of impact reports and case studies that reflect young people’s lived experience ethically and sensitively.

• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice.

• Stay informed about sector trends and test new tools or approaches appropriate for a small charity.

Job purpose

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative and experienced Head of income and partnerships to drive forward and deliver our plans for income growth and diversification in line with our 5-year organisational strategy.

This is a new, pivotal role at a defining moment for the organisation. As we evolve our operating model and ambitions, you will lead the development of a more diverse, sustainable and innovative income portfolio, ensuring we can continue to grow our impact in advancing the quality of veterinary care for the benefit of animals, the public and society.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with your senior team colleagues, you will develop and implement our income generation strategy, unlocking opportunities across industry partnerships, trust and foundations and individual giving.

We’re looking for someone who is both strategically minded and comfortable with hands-on delivery, and who will take a proactive approach to building our income-generating capacity from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and leadership

• Play a key role in developing and refining our income strategy to meet our organisational strategy and priorities
• Take a leadership role in income generation, collaborating with colleagues to identify and take forward opportunities for income generation and partnerships
• Advise the CEO and senior team on growth opportunities and strategic partnerships while providing coaching, guidance and support to the team on best practice in developing successful partnerships to generate income
• Encourage cross-team collaboration on income opportunities
• Work with the CEO and the rest of the senior team to set the annual business plan and budget, and monitor delivery and performance

Delivery

• Build, manage and deliver a pipeline of opportunities across multiple income streams, with a primary focus on industry partnerships, trusts and foundations, and the development of individual giving.

• Develop and secure high-value partnerships with carefully selected industry partners in line with our partnerships policy. Oversee stewardship of partners to develop successful strategic relationships in both the short and long term

• Work with senior team colleagues, clinical leads and other team members to develop compelling, outcome-driven cases for support
• Explore and support potential opportunities for income generation in other areas such as public sector and earned income.

Performance and compliance

• Monitor and report on progress towards KPIs and income targets
• Create and enhance systems, processes and tools to develop the charity’s income-generation capability
• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice
• Work with finance colleagues on forecasting, reporting and income tracking.

Person specification

Essential

• Substantial experience leading income‑generation activity, including developing strategies, building pipelines and securing income across multiple streams
• Strong track record of developing and stewarding high‑value partnerships that deliver income and impact
• Experience personally leading successful bids, proposals and pitches
• Confidence operating both strategically and hands‑on within a small or medium-sized organisation
• Strong senior‑level stakeholder‑management skills and the ability to translate organisational strengths into compelling cases for support
• Solid financial literacy, including budgeting, forecasting and income tracking
• Clear understanding of best practice, governance and ethical considerations in income generation

Desirable

• Experience working within the veterinary or animal‑health sector, or in a similarly technical or evidence‑based environment

You’ll be supported by a collaborative team, including senior leadership and Trustees, and will have key strategic and operational input into the success of our fundraising, the growth of the team, and the broader impact of our charity.
