We are seeking a Finance Officer with a keen eye for detail, and an aptitude for learning new skills, to take on purchase ledger and payroll administration duties in our Finance Department.   You will have either begun on the path of attaining a financial qualification or had some experience in a similar role.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all purchases, payments and returns, including supplier invoices, staff payments (salaries, expenses and advances), project and contractor payments and credit card transactions.  Responsible for project reporting against budget.

Key responsibilities (full responsibilities listed in the application pack):

• Ownership of the purchase ledger system, administering the entire process of invoice receiving, checking, coding, distributing for approval, posting to the accounts software (currently Sage), setting up domestic and international payments for authorisation, and electronic filing of documents.
• Administering all credit card returns including distribution of statements to colleagues, checking and coding returns, collating documents, submitting for line-manager approval, posting to Sage and following up on outstanding items.
• Administering staff and contractors expense claims, advances, returns and funds transfer requests, including checking and coding, submitting for budget-holder approval, arranging payment both domestic and international, and electronic filing of documents.
• Recording project expenditure against budget and drafting project financial returns to meet funder deadlines.

• Exposure to SAGE Line50 or other accounting package.

About the Role

Humanists International has another separate entity based in the US. This role will be a part of the UK operations team but will collaborate with the US finance team occasionally when it’s required, for example, during the audit period. Both UK and US finance teams are managed by the same Director of Finance and Operations who is based in London. 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can provide excellent finance and administrative support to the small, predominantly home-based team. We’re seeking someone who is personable, highly organised, has attention to detail and is keen to take initiative and learn new skills. Onboarding training will be provided, but we would like you to demonstrate transferable skills. 

You will work on a wide variety of tasks which will include bookkeeping and bank reconciliations, being the first point of contact for the organisation, as well as providing general administrative support to the team. You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across a diverse international team.

This is a full-time or part-time with a minimum of 4 days/week (0.8 FTE), permanent position, which is predominantly home-based but does require the attendance of in-person events such as the General Assembly and Team Building. You will also be expected to attend a number of board-level meetings held on weekends to take meeting minutes - further details are listed in the Key Responsibilities section.

Key Responsibilities

• Taking charge of the day-to-day financial activities and office administration of the organisation.

• Ensuring high-accuracy bookkeeping and bank reconciliation are completed to deadlines. 

• Ensuring adequate financial documents are filed on Drive to comply with the audit requirements.

• Preparing invoices and receipts to stakeholders as required.

• Generating month-end Budget vs. Actual Report from accounting software on time, for the Director of Finance and Operations to review. 

• Preparing financial data for quarterly Finance Report in tables for the Director of Finance and Operations to conduct quarterly financial analysis.

• Assisting the Director of Finance and Operations with the preparation of financial data, tables and files for the annual budgeting and UK audit.

• Reviewing and processing expense claims. And ensuring the Expenses Policy is being followed. 

• Preparing and attaching expense receipts to the CEO’s monthly credit card statements.

• Being the first point of contact of the organisation. Managing office inbox, answering office calls and sorting out the letters.

• Attending online board meetings (four times a year on Saturdays) and investment committee meetings (twice a year on weekdays between 5-7pm) to take meeting minutes. Board meetings normally take 3 hours and investment committee meetings take 45 minutes. These meetings are usually planned 6-8 months in advance.  TOILs will be provided when the meeting is held outside your normal working hours.

• Assisting the CEO with board papers and circulating them to board members before board meetings.

• Arranging flights and accommodations for the CEO and board members to attend in-person meetings when required.

• Arranging meetings for the CEO when required.

• Assisting staff and board members with queries on finance or administrative matters.

• Any other appropriate duties.

Essential Skills

• Accounting, finance, or economics qualification.

• A minimum of two years’ experience in bookkeeping and administration roles. 

• Experience using financial software. e.g. Quickbooks, Xero, Sage or equivalent.

• Understanding of the chart of accounts structure, cash/accrual accounting basis.

• Understanding of the expense claim process.

• Experience preparing the budget. (Not necessarily the whole organisation’s budget, but specific section(s), for example, travel costs and fixed-costs related budget lines would be essential.)

• Excellent organisation, time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritise and plan a busy workload. 

• Self-motivated and able to meet all deadlines.

• Supportive, collaborative and able to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Abilities to work independently with initiative.

BACKGROUND 

The Helen Bamber Foundation is a human rights organisation with an international reputation for providing medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection, and practical support to survivors of trafficking and torture.  We are a team of therapists, doctors, lawyers, caseworkers and administrators who help men, women and children recover from the emotional and physical damage they have suffered because of torture, human trafficking, or other forms of cruelty.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE 

As  Psychotherapist within the Helen Bamber Foundation, you will work alongside our current Senior Psychotherapist and be responsible for supporting the Head of Therapies and the Team Manager in providing a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions to clients of the Helen Bamber Foundation.

In addition to providing psychotherapy, stabilization, psychoeducation, and trauma focused therapy, this role will include delivery of psychological assessments for both medico-legal and clinical purposes, as well as delivery of clinical supervision to staff from non-clinical backgrounds who nonetheless have significant client contact, and supervision of assistant psychologists. As you develop in the role you will also have opportunities to contribute to the on-going development of the service and at times, the role may include input into policy, research and fundraising and delivery of consultancy and training. 

We are looking for someone who is committed to working therapeutically with individuals who have experienced human rights abuses and who have developed trauma spectrum disorders as a result. The successful applicant will ideally have proven experience in working therapeutically with this client group, have a passion for human rights work beyond the individual client work, and a desire to contribute to effecting change at a policy level.  This role requires the ability to be with the complex and sometimes harrowing details of a client’s experience, and to react and respond creatively and appropriately to their needs.Additionally, you will be knowledgeable and experienced in consultation and assessment including risk management, and have competence, or a commitment to receiving training, in at least one model of trauma therapy such as NET or EMDR.

ABOUT ASYLUM AID

For over thirty years, Asylum Aid has been providing legal representation to some of the most vulnerable people seeking asylum. We have built an expert service, delivering vital and life-saving services in some of the most complex legal cases, with a particular speciality working with unaccompanied children, Survivors of trafficking, torture or other forms of human cruelty,  and stateless people. ABOUT THE ROLE

As Children and Young People’s Solicitor and Senior Caseworker at Asylum Aid, you will primarily work with unaccompanied asylum-seeking child (UASC) and young people (under 25), providing end to end representation on their asylum, human rights and trafficking claims. You may also undertake age dispute challenges and other judicial review work on behalf of your clients. You will combine this work, which will account for approximately 70% of your time, with conducting other immigration matters, including adult asylum claims, family reunion applications and statelessness applications. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the wider work of the Asylum Aid team, delivering high quality legal services on the full range of protection and trafficking issues that affect migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. You will conduct asylum casework under legal aid funding, with a specialist focus on representing unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people, and contribute to policy and strategic legal work to promote the rights of children and young people in the asylum system. 

 You will be a qualified solicitor or Immigration caseworker with IAAS Level 2/Senior Caseworker accreditation and have significant experience in publicly funded immigration work under a Legal Aid Agency Contract. You should have, or be able to obtain, Level 2 Children Safeguarding. 

As is the nature of this sector, the role will be exposed to a high volume of traumatic and distressing material and, whilst they will be supported by the Asylum Aid Director, supervisors and the surrounding team, they should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of good self-care principles in an intense work environment.

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.

You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.

You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.

Main functions

Supporting young people and the JUMP Community

1. Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
2. Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
3. Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.

 Supervising and supporting volunteers

1. Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
2. Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
3. Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.

Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders

1. Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
2. Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.

Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping

1. Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

Other Duties

1. Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

• The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

• A track record of working directly with asylum seeking and refugee children and young people.
• Experience of social work, youth work, or other relevant methods of supporting people in challenging circumstances.

• Educated to at least undergraduate degree level, or equivalent background or experience.

Role details

Salary: £30,000 (pro-rata'd to £18,000)
Hours: 21 hours per week. Flexible working; some evening and weekend work will be required.
Location: Hybrid working between home and our North London office space.

ABOUT THE ROLE

EVAW’s communications officer will help inform the public and media stakeholders about violence against women and girls (VAWG), influence narratives about this abuse and inspire change.

Responsibilities include growing our online presence and media profile, creating engaging (audio)visual content and writing accessible and informative press releases, web pieces, social media posts and more.

The postholder will have an eye for design and a finger on the pulse of current trends, with strong written skills, a commitment to accessibility, and an understanding of social change and the UK’s media landscape.

You are likely to have some experience in a communications, media or campaigns context, working on VAWG or another human rights/equalities issue, and will be seeking an opportunity to work in a highly impactful, agile and dynamic feminist organisation.

Whether practical or academic, paid or voluntary, a background in VAWG will of course be an asset. You’ll need to show us you have a good understanding of VAWG, can communicate complex issues with clarity and impact, and are committed to intersectional feminism. EVAW’s public affairs officer will help persuade policy makers and stakeholders to prioritise tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) and develop policy and practice that is effective, inclusive and rooted in equalities and human rights.

Typical tasks for this job might include reviewing and synthesising political speeches and debates, drafting briefings for MPs and other stakeholders and supporting with the organisation of stakeholder events such as parliamentary and party conference meetings.  

Candidates are likely to have some experience in public affairs or policy work on VAWG or a related field connected to social justice, human rights and equalities.  and will be seeking an opportunity to work in a highly impactful, agile and dynamic feminist organisation.

We are looking to recruit a multi-skilled advocate to join our busy Kent, London & Sussex multi- disciplinary team, starting salary £23,314 per annum + Inner London Weighting £2,400 per annum.

About the role

A mix of home-based work and in varied community settings, and on Teams, you will need to be able to work on your own and link in with support from the wider team. As an advocate, you will support people to explore options, looking at their rights, wishes and feelings and support them to speak to professionals about their choices. There is an element of active participation in the promotion of services via networking and attending promotional events.

What we need from you

We are looking for someone with the creativity and enthusiasm to support people in difficult circumstances, ideally with experience in a health or social care setting and/or working with vulnerable people. Level 3 Advocacy qualification and a working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and/or Mental Health would be desirable but, we can offer training. We will need you to be able to work from home but also as part of a large team, with the confidence to engage with a variety of audiences. You will need to have skills in communicating with a variety of different people. The people we support at The Advocacy People are often in the process of some difficult decisions and you will need to be supportive and boundaried in your approach.

As this role is home based with regular travel, mainly but not exclusively in the Southwark area, you must have access to both a stable home broadband service and your own transport as well as flexibility with working hours. We also need you to live in the London area.

About Reprieve

Reprieve is a UK charity founded in 1999. Reprieve uses strategic interventions to end the use of the death penalty globally, and to end extreme human rights abuses carried out in the name of “counterterrorism” or “national security”.

 Reprieve works with the people whose circumstances have made them extremely vulnerable, as it is in their cases that human rights are most swiftly jettisoned and the rule of law is cast aside. About this role

The role of the Finance and Payroll Manager is to support the Development and Finance teams to manage and report on restricted income, as well as to manage monthly in-house payroll under the guidance of the Head of Finance. This involves ensuring that we are maximising the use of restricted funding, and that money is spent in line with donors’ wishes and that staff are paid accurately and on time each month. The Finance and Payroll Manager will work within a small Finance team under the supervision of the Head of Finance. They will work closely with the Joint ED, wider Senior Management Team, Head of Development and budget holders throughout the organisation.

They will support the Head of Finance with annual budgeting and quarterly re-forecasting as well as with the production of the monthly management accounts. They will support the Development team in making grant applications and develop restricted grant budgets for newly secured grants for integration into the organisational budget; they will meet regularly with the Development team and budget holders to review restricted project spend. They will produce reports for funders working in conjunction with our Development Team and casework teams. The Finance and Payroll Manager will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement of the finance systems, processes and grant management tools to ensure they continue to be fit for purpose.

Contract and location

The role is a full-time, permanent position with an annual salary of £50,571 per annum less any required deductions for Income Tax and National Insurance. 

 Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home.

The role will be a stimulating and inspiring opportunity for an experienced equality and discrimination lawyer to work pro actively and strategically to use the law as a tool for change.

BEO is a civil rights charity that was set up to challenge and dismantle systemic racism. We work with Black communities by using campaigning, policy and research in conjunction with the law to effect meaningful change.

Legal services are central to BEO. We are therefore looking for someone of 4yrs PQE who has experience in social welfare, human rights, public and administration law and who seeks an opportunity to use those skills specifically in the area of challenging systemic racism.

In the last year we have been developing our relationships with partner organisations, ranging from community groups, our stakeholder law firms, NGOs and law firms experienced in equality and discrimination law, to deliver legal services. The role holder will be required to build on and expand these relationships so that BEO can offer quality legal advice to Back communities in the nations and regions across the United Kingdom.

We are building our internal legal team so that we can provide targeted legal support to Black communities. We are looking for someone to work with the Director of Legal Services and Policy to ensure that high quality legal advice, support and representation are the hallmark of BEO.

Apart from delivering targeted legal advice and representation and identifying and running strategic litigation cases, the role holder will be required to think creatively to assist in fundraising and campaigning to develop a sustainable legal service. BEO does not have a Legal Aid Agency contract so self funds all legal work.

BEO is a small team, so the role holder must have the skills and confidence to work on their own initiative as well as with members of other teams in BEO.

About You-

We are looking for someone with 4 years PQE who is excited about being part of a team that will build a legal service and who can work with Black communities and be guided by them.

You will also be able to demonstrate that you are aware that Black communities are not homogeneous and you will bring this understanding to the way that you approach your work and interact with clients, our partners and community organisations.

Your qualities will include an understanding that intersectionality is relevant in all that we do at BEO and that your assessment of how we use the law will be seen through that lens.

You will be someone who has lived experience of or insight and comprehension of the impact of racism on all aspects of the lives of members of Black communities.
