We are a multi-award-winning, creative, and innovative organisation, and the Database Officer is a role at Al-Khair Foundation, sitting within the Database team and delivering on a range of database tasks and processes utilising our Salesforce database. We’re looking for someone who has a good working knowledge of database systems and who understands their importance to organisations like Al-Khair Foundation. We seek someone who is naturally process-driven and has a great eye for detail. You will be responsible for specific monthly processes, such as organisation income reconciliation and ongoing data uploads and cleansing for the Fundraising teams. You will also become a champion for Salesforce and understand the importance of CRM to help Al-Khair Foundation achieve our goals and provide a better service to our donors, supporters, and participants.
Your Role
Al-Khair Foundation uses Salesforce to manage relationships with our donors, supporters, and stakeholders, including recording all donations made to the organisation. Al-Khair Foundation’s Database Officer will be responsible for the monthly delivery of the income and data reconciliation processes for the Fundraising teams, which includes liaising with a wide range of external agencies and the website to successfully download and query files, update and create new supporter records on the database, process cheques and payment requests, and work closely with the Finance team to ensure all anticipated and banked income tallies correctly.
You will also work closely with colleagues in the Database team to support and maintain regular database processes, data cleansing, and other database-related functions that happen on a monthly or quarterly basis. This may include responding to and being responsible for Support Ticket queries in relation to income, data, and/or the database generally and working with external database agencies such as our web platform partners and Salesforce.
Aside from these core duties, from time to time, you may also carry out general administrative tasks on behalf of the Supporter Engagement team. This may include supporting the Supporter Care Assistant during busy periods with customer care via email and telephone and recording updates, processing invoices, and maintaining and updating team rotas and trackers.
Your Responsibilities

The Start Fund Programme Officer will work as part of a team to implement the global Start Fund, which is the Start Network's flagship programme disbursing around £20m in awards to network member organisations each year. The global Start Fund provides rapid financing in response to underfunded small to medium scale crises, spikes in chronic humanitarian crises, and in anticipation of impending crises, filling a critical gap in humanitarian financing.

The Start Network is at a critical point in its journey. We have grown and diversified our membership over the past 10 years. We are now set to evolve into a decentralised “network of networks” by 2025. They are developing locally led ways of anticipating and responding to humanitarian crises. We aim to support the emergence and development of further Hubs in the coming years. The team of Start Fund Programme Officers work with colleagues across both Save the Children UK (SCUK) and the Start Network.
About the Role
Key for the post-holder is engagement with Start Network member organisations, and effective coordination with the wider Start team, to ensure that the Start Fund continues to enable early, timely and effective humanitarian action.
You will also play a role in identifying and implementing technological solutions to improve Start Fund operational efficiency, and collaborating with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to ensure that learning contributes to strengthened programming, and a continually improving funding mechanism (the Start Funds). You will also support other areas of fund management, currently including crisis anticipation and support to national Start Funds (e.g., Start Fund Bangladesh and Start Fund Nepal).
The role includes working with a wide range of stakeholders within SCUK and other agencies within the Start Network and Start Platform.
You will also be responsible for project and team administration, such as processing of disbursements and record keeping of all project documents. You will support reporting, project compliance and escalate complaints and incidents. Furthermore, you will:
- Be responsible for Grant management throughout the Start Fund alert cycle.
- Provide support to the Start Fund Committee representatives and humanitarian personnel world-wide, in the decision-making processes.
- Implement the Start Fund, while identifying ways on which the programme could be improved from an operational perspective.
- Support MEAL colleagues to capture data accurately, analyse learning and emerging patterns to enable effective monitoring, evaluation and learning.

About You
To be successful you will have experience working within the humanitarian sector and proven experience of project cycle management and financial management. As well as a flexible ‘can do' attitude, you should have the ability to manage an unpredictable workload and use your initiative. Strong data management and analysis skills are essential, as is:
- Experience in organising events and engaging varied stakeholders in complex issues.
- Proven skills in developing log frames, proposals and budgets, and in reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with stakeholders at different levels.
- Competency in a second language, preferably Spanish, French or Arabic.

We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 1,000,000 children to go to school and learn.
Part 1: Role Purpose:
We are seeking an outstanding Programmes Officer for an exciting opportunity to support Street Child’s programme portfolio in Liberia and Sierra Leone. This role will cut across Street Child’s programming in the region, including a specific focus on the $12.8m Education for Every Child Today (EFECT) Project which aims to enrol 96,000 out of school children in school across West Africa over a 4-year period.
The key objectives of this role are to work closely with Street Child’s federal partners to support the effective implementation of adaptive programming, and to support accurate and timely donor reporting across a range of institutional, trust & foundations, and corporate donors. The ideal candidate will have strong written and excel skills, with experience of MEAL and financial management processes. The role will engage regular, detailed interaction with Street Child’s UK and European fundraising community.
The role holder will work in close collaboration with Street Child’s regional Head of Programmes, based in Freetown, as well as partner Programmes, MEAL and Finance teams to coordinate timely and quality implementation and reporting across the programmes portfolio.
Based in Monrovia, whilst serving a regional brief, the role-holder will be expected to be especially involved in supporting the programmes, and wider life, of Street Child of Liberia. This aspect of the role in particular demands a confident, ‘self-sufficient’ and motivated personality – who is excited by the opportunity and attendant career potential, as opposed to being overawed by the inevitable, multi-dimensional challenges.
Part 2: Key Responsibilities:
Reporting & Programme Funding Engagement – 35%
- Review narrative and financial quarterly reporting from country teams and provide feedback.

- Demonstrable experience of capacity building with national staff.
- Demonstrable experience of donor reporting.
- Strong working knowledge of education, child protection and livelihoods approaches.
- Strong working knowledge of the Liberia and/or Liberia context.
Skills and Abilities
- Good organisation and administrative skills and an ability to forward plan.
- Coaching / Capacity Strengthening Skills.
- Good time management skills, able to work to tight deadlines and an ability to work under pressure.
Other
- Excellent written and spoken communications in English (additional languages welcome).
- A ‘can-do’, and agile attitude, a passion for problem solving and adaptive thinking.
- Self-starter with strong motivation to succeed and ability to work independently in carrying out assigned tasks within a fast-paced team.
Education / Qualifications
- Degree or Higher in International Development or related field; or relevant training courses in MEAL.
