At the core of RABI’s mission is the commitment to address the individual needs of farming people. We offer one-to-one, expert support, advice and guidance, tailored to the individual circumstances of the farming person.
You will be part of a wider Volunteering team responsible for developing our approach to volunteering and engaging stakeholders and partners through local events, shows, talks etc.
We currently involve approximately 500 volunteers who help raise funds and awareness of RABI within local communities. Most of our volunteers are linked to one of our 40 county committees across England & Wales.
You will take the lead for volunteering across a range of projects including the development and implementation of new volunteering systems and processes and the piloting of a new volunteer ambassador programme. The role also includes the line management of the Volunteering Projects Co-ordinator.
Key responsibilities:
Volunteering systems & processes
- As the lead ‘subject matter expert’ for volunteering, you will lead on the implementation of new volunteering systems & processes across RABI. This includes making decisions to support system development, testing, communications and training for users.
- Work closely with the National Volunteering Manager and the team of Regional Managers, to ensure they are equipped and supported to make best use of the new systems.
- Work with the Head of Volunteering and Volunteering Projects Co-ordinator to ensure the appropriate processes and policies are in place to support good practice and an accessible and inclusive volunteering experience.
- Lead on the evaluation of new systems & processes for volunteering and agree clear recommendations / priorities for future development.
Diversify and expand volunteer offer
- Lead on development and implementation of new volunteer roles – including the introduction of community and corporate ambassadors.
- Work with a range of stakeholders to clarify priorities for future development for new types of volunteering – from flexible, micro roles, to more formal roles such as volunteer ambassadors.
- Develop and agree approach to volunteer recruitment, engagement and development – to support ambassadors and other roles.
- Put in place a clear development plan for ambassadors – including opportunities to come together, collaborate on future content and training etc.
- Manage and evaluate pilots – gathering evidence to inform future development.
Volunteer learning and development
- Understand volunteer learning and training needs and organisational requirements to inform future development.
- Lead the introduction of new learning systems, volunteer portal and content to support volunteer training and development – to ensure volunteers feel supported and we are meeting appropriate safe and legal obligations.
Volunteer communications and recognition
- Work with Head of Volunteering to improve volunteer communication – including volunteer forums and newsletters.
- Lead on improvements to informal and formal recognition of RABI volunteers / county committees – including introduction of long service awards and involvement in national initiatives such as Volunteers Week and Big Help Out.
Team management and leadership
- Work closely with the Head of Volunteering, National Volunteering and Senior Regional Managers to set direction, make decisions and engage the wider team.
- Manage the Volunteering Projects Co-ordinator, setting clear goals and supporting their development.
- Work with the wider Volunteering team and other departments, to support and embed the volunteer journey and good practice in volunteer management.
General
- Comply with RABI’s Health and Safety Policy, Data Protection Policy and to protect your own and others’ health, safety and welfare.
- Take responsibility for professional development, working with your line manager to identify training that will support growth in the role.

Person Specification:
Essential
- Affinity, understanding and demonstration of the goals and objectives of RABI.
- Project management & leading change – experience of managing projects across an organisation and working with different stakeholders to support change – ideally related to volunteering.
- Volunteer management – very good understanding and experience of volunteering development and management good practice.
- Learning and development – experience of supporting people’s development and confidence through provision of guidance, e-learning.
- Previous people management experience – including setting goals and managing performance.
- Communications & interpersonal skills – ability to engage and build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders through good communications.
- IT & digital systems – experience of using and supporting others in use of CRM and similar systems.
- Be resilient and open to change in a developing department, and able to adapt to those changes.

Role purpose
• To provide leadership to Caxton for the charity to achieve its mission and deliver to its

Main Responsibilities
Leadership
• Provide, develop and implement Caxton’s strategic and operational plans, leading on

direct management responsibility for three employees to ensure that Caxton delivers a
safe, effective and fun service for all of its members and their families.
Strategy
• To deliver the 2023-26 strategy.
• Implement a strategy review in the Autumn and tailor the operational plan accordingly.
• Identify and assess strategic risks, issues and opportunities and take responsibility for initiating and leading associated changes, with agreement from trustees.
Business Development:
• Work closely with the Fundraising Manager to ensure Caxton raises c.£500k pa to maintain in-years services.
• Work towards the achievement of long-term sustainability, developing the charity’s business model and maximising income, for example from fundraising, service contracts and earned income.

Financial Control and Governance
• Liaise with the Board, Senior Management Team and Accountants to ensure that the charity’s overall governance structure, policies and procedures are appropriate and effective, taking remedial measures and implementing changes as necessary in line with legal requirements and good practice.
• To ensure that adequate finance is available and to work with the Treasurer and the Finance and Facilities Officer, to produce regular management accounts and annual audited accounts in line with requirements.

Buildings Management
• To take accountability for the building management and compliance, working with the finance and facilities officer to ensure regular checks are made and the building is maintained within a budget.
Day-to-day Management
• Day-to-day management of the service to ensure it continues to be safe and effective. This includes being the safeguarding lead for the organisation.
Youth Government and Leadership
• To attend monthly Youth Government meetings and ensure that you are always amplifying the youth voice.
• To communicate effectively with young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities.
• To liaise with external agencies and create new opportunities for youth leadership.
External Relations
• To develop and maintain positive relationships with private sector donors, statutory, partners and funding organisations.

As Research Communications Lead, you will use your knowledge of the medical research field and science communication experience and expertise to create a suite of research impact communications and stories.
In addition, you will build the base for the charity to confidently talk and communicate the difference that our funded research makes to the lives of people affected by sight loss. Strategic Research Communications

About Social Change Lab
Social Change Lab is a nonprofit conducting and disseminating social movement research to help solve the world’s most pressing problems. Historically, social movements conducting disruptive campaigns seem to have been crucial in driving significant political, social and economic change. Despite this, there has been little research systematically analysing the effectiveness of social movements and the strategies or tactics that most influence the success of these campaigns. Our research addresses this neglected knowledge gap and provides actionable advice to advocates and philanthropists working on a variety of important issues, with a focus on animal advocacy and climate change. We support activist groups in choosing effective campaigning strategies and tactics (e.g. via delivering training and workshops) as well as supporting funders with their philanthropic giving. About the role
As the Director of Social Change Lab, you would have a high level of responsibility and high impact. We manage two open access application programmes in Buckinghamshire and a wider UK programme of grant-making where we pro-actively identify organisations to work with in our areas of interest. These include culture and regenerative food systems, connecting with activity at Waddesdon Manor and Estate, the home of the Foundation. The Grants Manager role will have a particular focus on our regenerative food and farming programme, where we are funding direct delivery organisations, as well as convening stakeholders and other funders championing a sustainable approach.
We aim to be an approachable funder focused on developing strong relationships with the organisations that we fund. A big part of the role will be developing relationships with a wide range of third sector organisations and supporting them to deliver effective approaches to community needs and issues within our areas of interest.
We value the balance in our funding approach of flexibly responding to local need alongside a deep dive into the specific interests of Trustees. This combination makes the Foundation an interesting and progressive place to work and we welcome individuals with a flexible and creative approach. The current annual budget for our grants programmes is approx. £8M.
We are very happy to be able to offer flexible working with the option of part remote and part office based. Currently we ask the team to be office based on Wednesdays and as a Grants Manager we’d expect other working days to include a mixture of visiting applicants and grantees and working from home. Given the nature of our work this may be subject to change but we will always do our best to offer a working pattern that balances your needs and the needs of the Foundation.

Key Responsibilities:
Grant Programme Management
- Developing opportunities for funding by identifying and visiting applicants, supporting them to work up proposals and ensuring they meet our due diligence requirements.
- Building effective relationships with applicants and grantees, including providing constructive feedback on applications and monitoring funded activity.
- Managing external consultants and contacts in the community who are responsible for delivering projects or coordinating networks which further our ambitions in regenerative food and farming.
- Working with the Grants Team to undertake research and keep up to date with developments in the current areas of interest and future interests of Trustees, helping develop current programmes and shape future strategy. This ideally will include some understanding of regenerative food and farming systems and identifying effective organisations and approaches to support.
- Supporting evaluation of the Foundation’s grants programmes and working with the team’s Evaluation and Impact Manager (to be appointed) to develop our approach to measuring and sharing impact. This will include use of our newly developed theory of change, reviewing grantee reports and collated data.
- Producing updates for Trustees on strategic progress, including project updates and some data analysis, as well as thinking about other creative ways to tell the stories of our funding.
Networking and Advocacy
- Working closely with staff at Waddesdon Manor and on the Waddesdon Estate.
- Representing the Foundation at relevant events, networks and groups, such as the Buckinghamshire Rural Forum, Natural Environment Partnership and Bucks Funders Group which may include occasional evening events.
- Devising and delivering ways to increase the reach and accessibility of our grant-making.
Communications
- Working with the Grants Team on the Foundation’s annual grants review, website, newsletter and social media.
Special Projects
- Project management support for internally managed projects such as research and events.
IT
- Working with the Foundation’s IT systems (including Microsoft Office suite, Blackbaud database and SharePoint). We are able to offer training in Blackbaud, and SharePoint if needed and are open to discussing other training needs.

We are looking for a high-calibre candidate to take on the role of Regional Operations Manager for our centres in South London (Walworth, Kennington and Brixton) along with our centres in Southampton and Brighton on a 12 month fixed-term maternity cover contract. As a Regional Operations Manager you will line manage the Centre Leaders in your region to ensure that centres are working effectively, that the high quality of programme delivery to young people is maintained across the cluster, and that targets are monitored and met. And of course, you will need to have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for working with young people and helping them achieve their ambitions.

Salary
£40,200 per annum inclusive of £2,200 London contribution (with pay review increase for 2024/2025 academic year)
Location
At one of IntoUniversity’s centres in London. Regular travel to centres in the region required.
