The Maypole Project has, for over 20 years, been supporting families through the toughest and most stressful periods of their lives following a child’s diagnosis with complex medical needs.  The diagnosis of a complex need in childhood can affect people from all walks of life, can impact all aspects of their lives, and brings with it a lifetime rollercoaster of events and emotions.  The Maypole Project promises to be alongside every family member, every step of their way to help them live their lives to the fullest.

To fulfil our five-year strategic development plan, we are seeking key skills in our new CEO which will be increasing our ability to reach out to as many people in need of The Maypole Project expertise in psychological and social support by creating new partnerships, new support networks and reaching into new geographical areas, 

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and with the support of Head of Developments, the CEO will lead the management of the organisation, drive its strategic development and, together with the Board, secure the future success of the organisation.

The post holder will promote The Maypole Project, its ambitions, values and objectives through every aspect of their work. 

This role will primarily sit within our Capacity Building and Standards (CB&S) function but will work closely with our Innovation and Practice (I&P) and Advocacy and Communications (A&C) functions. 

The CB&S function aims to build capacity both inside and outside of public institutions to embed the processes, skills, structures and cultures needed for effective public participation in decision-making. The I&P function is responsible for the deliberative, dialogic and participatory projects and processes that we run. The A&C function aims to build political and public understanding of and support for making participation and deliberation an everyday, integral part of our democracy. 

This role will have a thematic focus on public engagement in decision-making within the science, technology and data sectors. Candidates do not need an educational or work background in this sector, although it would be useful, but we would expect the successful candidate to take a keen interest in these topics. 

Involve achieves its impacts by growing expertise in sector-specific areas where public engagement is important. Science and tech represent policy areas where citizen engagement on both principles and practice is vital and where public engagement can also open the door to broader deliberative democratic interventions and feedback loops. Technological advancement, including AI, presents risks and opportunities and will be an ongoing priority for government with five critical technologies likely to be central to UK policy for at least the next Government.

Involve has a significant pedigree and is well networked in the area of public engagement in science. Over the last 20 years we have been thought leaders in this space, in particular running the government’s science and tech engagement programme, Sciencewise. We have developed a reputation for best practice public dialogue, deliberation and capacity building. 

Given the opportunity to grow this area, our reputation, and the important democratic need, we don’t want to stand still. 

As Engagement Lead you will play a central role in leading Involve’s work, and building out our strategy, on public engagement in the science, technology and data field. The job will involve leading on our Sciencewise programme of public dialogue as well as supporting, growing and communicating our science and tech public engagement in general. You will be a proven project leader and strategic thinker looking to make your next move and develop your leadership and profile in this interesting and important area of public engagement in decision-making. 

We are seeking to recruit an individual with purpose, passion and integrity to lead our Health team. In this role, you will use your skills, knowledge and experiences to help ensure movement and physical activity is embedded into health and care systems. You will work with partners across the system, in the leadership of GM Moving; our whole system approach across the city-region to reduce inactivity and grow a movement for active lives for everyone, with a specific intent to reduce physical activity and health inequalities. 

Hours: 22 hours per week 

Salary: NJC Points 49-53 Band H, £58,072 – £66,182 p.a. pro rata (salary to be at entry level except for exceptional circumstances)

Contract:1 year fixed term from July 2024 (maternity cover - we are open to flexible working arrangements/secondments).

Co-founded by author Nick Hornby in 2010, we help young people discover their confidence, imagination and potential through the power of their writing. We develop self-respect and communication skills through writing programmes and mentoring for children in our community, by working in schools, and at our dedicated writing centre in East London. We empower young people to write brighter futures for themselves through the power of their ideas, creativity and imagination.

We are looking for a confident leader to work closely with the Director to continue the growth and resilience of our organisation. You’ll drive successful fundraising and trading income, and understand how our communications can support this.

You will be a forward planner with an ability to respond to opportunity and manage risk. With keen attention to detail as well as the overview, you’ll have strong financial management skills. You will be great with people, have excellent communication skills, and be able to bring the best out in our team.

You will enjoy working in a supportive, busy and fun environment and be motivated by our commitment to champion the writer in every child.

You will oversee the annual programme of BJAA trainings in collaboration with the Training (TC), the Postgraduate Committee (PGC) and New Approaches to Theory (NAT) group. You will also oversee selection coordination for Intensive, Modified Entry Scheme and psychotherapy trainings.

Essential criteria

· A clinical qualification in Jungian analysis, psychoanalytic or psychodynamic therapy with an openness to Jungian approaches.

· Commitment to growing and developing excellent trainings.

· Willingness to develop new ideas and work collaboratively with other training directors.

· Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

· Good general computer literacy including competency in Microsoft Office, databases, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, and the ability to be self-supporting;

Desirable criteria

· Some experience of teaching, delivering education and/or supervision would be beneficial, however not essential.

· Some experience of delivering a service (training or clinical), managing a budget or working within teams that helds budgets would be beneficial, however not essential.

As Grants Manager, you will be a member of the Biomedical Grants and Policy Department and will take oversight for the delivery of a sub-set of the Academy’s UK and international grants portfolio to support our strategy - notably our strategic priority to support the next generation of researchers to reach their full potential.

Working in a small team will give you the opportunity to develop line management skills, set and manage your budgets, and be directly involved in securing funding for our schemes.

The Diocese of London (LDF) is seeking a Net Zero Carbon Program Lead to play a key role within the Strategy and Communications team, based from Pimlico, London.

Background

Along with other dioceses in the Church of England, Diocese of London has committed to become a Net Zero Carbon Diocese by 2030. This followed National Synod’s commitment in Feb 2020 of the same.  

To achieve this, the Diocese has now approved a comprehensive Net Zero Carbon (NZC) Action Plan, which follows the Route Map put together by National Church Environment Team. 

The Diocese is now building a team to ensure that the Plan is enacted, milestones are reached and that Net Zero Carbon becomes part of the culture adopted by all across all those within the Diocese. 

Responsibilities

Strategic:

• Collaborate with departmental leads on carbon reduction priorities.
• Lead NZC Programme Delivery Team and report progress regularly.
• Share success stories to inform strategy revisions.
• Embed NZC Communication Strategy organization-wide.
• Secure funding and foster external partnerships.
• Implement recommendations for culture change.

Operational:

• Serve as main NZC contact.
• Maintain Risk Register for the programme.
• Gather feedback at network meetings.
• Present at various gatherings.
• Assist in NZC plans for relevant departments.
• Use appropriate communication channels.
• Perform other relevant duties.

Introducing Harington

Harington is an Ofsted registered specialist college based in North London rated good, working with around 52 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment, that delivers outstanding personalised education, learning, and support, which leads to further education, employment opportunities, and a fulfilling life for each of our students. 

We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.

Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. We work with local employers and partners to provide work experience and other opportunities for our students.

The Role

This is an exciting time to join the Harington, as we have recently appointed a new Principal/CEO. We want to ensure that the Harington is able to fulfil and secure its mission to benefit our young people, both now and into the future.

In the next year we will consolidate what we do well and seek to strengthen the areas where we could do better. The Interim COO will work with all stakeholders and closely with the Principal/CEO to review, plan and implement the necessary changes. The role is initially for 9 months, but it is anticipated that it will continue after the initial review and planning period.  

This Interim Chief Operating Officer role will:-

1)Support the development and implementation of the strategic plan and through the annual Operations Plan and Budget, and be responsible for measuring and evaluating progress against goals and targets

2)Drive excellence and efficiency across Finance, HR, Governance, Operations, and IT, strengthening and embedding the right policies, systems, processes, technology and infrastructure ensuring seamless execution and robust management of risk.

3)Manage our three commercial businesses (two charity shops and Harington Gardeners) so they meet our social, learning and business aims

4)Oversee Harington’s fundraising so we secure the income we need from trusts and foundations, individual donors and community fundraising

5)Ensure effective management of the buildings and estate of a multi-site organisation, and the support services required to provide a suitable and safe environment for learning and working, that meets the required health and safety standards

6) Ensure that all staff feel valued and supported, with effective management of staff, operations and administration

The person

 You are an exceptional senior leader that is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for young people with learning differences.

Working as part of the senior leadership and management team you will ensure that Harington is a safe environment where students can learn, work, thrive and grow. You will ensure our staff team is valued and supported, and our management team and trustees are kept up to date and fully informed.

You are an energetic, organised, and positive team player, similarly comfortable working independently. It is a very varied role and one that needs calm focus as well as spontaneity and initiative.

You are adept at getting to the root of an issue, finding the solution and making things run smoothly and efficiently.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements and would consider 4 days a week or compressed hours.

Essential skills

• Successful senior leader within a medium sized organisation for a minimum of three years, with a results-proven track record
• Worked in charity and/or education setting
• Sound understanding of financial management, reporting and accounting systems
• Experience of successfully managing and implementing changes to improve the way things run
• Highly motivated and driven self-starter, able to adapt quickly when priorities change
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office products and database management systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in creating high-level reports and presentations
