You must enjoy hands-on management and oversee the Head of Finance and the Finance team, ensuring that they continue to provide robust financial governance and control. This will all be conjunction with growing their knowledge and capacity with the Dynamic 365 platform to meet the ever-evolving needs and strategy of the Society. The post holder will also safeguard the financial integrity of the Society, its governance, and ensure it is fully compliant with all statutory requirements. This purpose extends to the Society’s subsidiaries.
This rewarding and varied role will see you will have full participation in the formulation and presentation of the Society’s strategic and operational plans and work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to make the British Horse Society the best it can be.
The Society's Head Office is based near Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. Hybrid working is in place with 2-3 days per week required onsite.
Essential Criteria
- Fully Qualified Accountant
- Proven experience at a senior level in a finance role with responsibility across the whole finance function.
- Experience at a senior level as Company Secretary or equivalent
- Experienced in delivering finance system and/or ERP transformation
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop team members to their full potential.
- Demonstrated aptitude for strategic thinking, planning and analysis.

About the role
As Programme Finance Officer you will provide support to the full life cycle of grants: from donor concept proposals to final reports. You will maintain a close working relationship with all finance and programme teams and relevant staff across their international network and external donors. The Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth are partnering exclusively with Robertson Bell to recruit a Strategic Programmes Finance Officer on a permanent, part-time basis (28 hours). The Diocese of Winchester (WDBF) and the Diocese of Portsmouth (PDBF) support the Ministry in, and the mission of, Church of England parishes in Winchester and Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
Reporting into, and working closely with, the Strategic Programme Managers of both dioceses, you will take responsibility for providing specific financial reconciliations, monitoring and reporting against the Strategic Development Fund (SDF) and Diocesan Investment Programme (DIP) funding received by the Diocese of Winchester and the Diocese of Portsmouth from the Church of England (Archbishop’s Council).
A key aspect of the role will involve financial planning and modelling for future DIP bids. SDF/DIP funding is given for projects within the dioceses that help to achieve their strategic objectives. The role also involves some historic analysis to ensure expenditure is correctly coded to the right project from previous funding.
In this Strategic Programmes Finance Officer role, you will:
- Support the Strategic Programme Managers, liaising with the Finance Team, drafting, costing, and modelling of financial information for future funding/grant bids, ensuring cost recovery for overheads and staff time is included on all projects.
- Prepare regular financial reports for the Strategic Development Team and senior leadership on the financial progress and outcomes of spend to date, ensuring transparency and accountability of the funds received for the various SDF/DIP projects.
- Ensuring any transactions for overheads or contributions to core costs are recorded accurately for costs incurred by SDF/DIP or shared by the WDBF/PDBF.
- Providing information to the Finance Team regarding projects as part of month or year-end processes.
- Support with the preparation of financial reports to Church of England on the funding spend to date at required intervals.
- Review of spend to date on Xledger vs spend expected by SDT to includes comparisons for projects, spend against budget and reconciliations moving forwards.

We are working in Partnership with Human Appeal (HA) who are seeking to appoint a Director of Finance to provide strategic and financial guidance, ensuring that the organisation’s financial commitments are met, including developing all necessary policies and procedures to ensure sound financial management and control.
The new Director of Finance will manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance department, while helping to drive business success, providing the financial insights that lead to better commercial decisions for both the UK, and their global offices. A key aspect of the role will be to establish strategies to increase income with a view to the stability of HA’s finances, along with its long-term financial health and growth.
You will:
- Be degree-educated in a relevant finance discipline and a Qualified Accountant (ACA; ACCA; CIMA).
- Demonstrate significant senior-level financial leadership, management and oversight experience.
- Have experience with, or exposure to, the not-for-profit or public sector.
- Have experience with, or exposure to, financial management in developing countries.
- Be an experienced user of the MS Office Suite, financial databases and systems. Previous experience using Salesforce, SAGE, and NAVision is desirable.
- Be fluent in written and spoken English (essential). Additional languages such as Arabic and Urdu are desirable.

In this role, you will lead the Finance team to deliver a first-class finance service to the charity. As Head of Finance at Camphill Village Trust, you will:
- Be responsible for the operational management of all aspects of the charity's finance function
- Lead on the production of the statutory and management accounts in a timely and accurate manner in line with appropriate timetables
- Create and monitor the finance roadmap for implementation of projects with timescales and budget and report progress
- Support the Resource Director in designing, developing, implementing and delivering the financial strategy
- Manage, motivate, and develop your direct reports and virtual team members to deliver an effective service to support the organisations business plan
The successful applicant will:
- Have significant demonstrable experience in finance within the charity sector, in a similar role

Reporting into their Director of Resources, you will be fully accountable for a finance team of twelve and will be tasked initially with ensuring the cohesion and effectiveness of two newly merged charities.
Responsibilities for this Head of Finance will include but won’t be limited to:
- Review current ways of working and systems with a view of rolling out new initiatives.
- Provide oversight and manage all of the charity’s financial processes and systems.
- Contribute to the charity’s strategic planning process, working closely with the Director of Resources.
- Attend key committee meetings and present finance headlines.

The Head of Finance is required to provide excellent leadership skills and oversight to a transforming finance function, including team mentoring, embedding improved financial management processes and systems, and making sure that Charity meets financial and legal obligations.
Purpose of role
- You will be part of the SMT with responsibility of providing timely and accurate financial information and strategic analysis to inform and influence discussion.
