As a Store Manager Designate for our growing number of Home stores you will be working in one of a number of stores in this area and eventually have the responsibility of your own store.
This is a hands on role. Working in a busy store, you will be leading your team on the shop floor and in the warehouse to generate stock and maximise profits. You will lead by example using your commercial and leadership skills to drive our stores forward while ensuring we deliver excellent customer service at all times. You will support and motivate a team of store staff and volunteers to maintain our high standards in store.
With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills you will be able to adapt to your store quickly, using your organisational and planning attributes to manage all the activities in the store from training to the financial and visual merchandising.
From working in a variety of stores you will gain exposure to different markets, layouts and turnover of stores before taking responsibility of your own store.
This position is for 35 hours and includes some weekend working on a rota basis.
About you
We are looking for someone with previous retail supervisory experience and confidence working in a fast paced environment. Motivated by the knowledge your hard work will make a life-saving difference, you’ll need to be proactive, driven and commercially aware. Leading by example, you will need to have the passion and leadership skills to motivate a team of staff and volunteers within the region that you’re covering.

Willow Burn Hospice is currently seeking a Retail Operations Manager to join our dedicated retail team. We are an independent charity delivering palliative and end of life care services to adults and their families across Derwentside and County Durham.
The role of Retail Operations Manager has overall responsibility for the effective operation of all of Willow Burn Hospice’s (WBH) shops: this includes responding to operational needs of the shops, effective leadership of the Shop Managers, optimising sales, maintaining effective stock management and merchandising, and ensuring that quality, health and safety and housekeeping are monitored and developed using audits.
Job Purpose
- Overall responsibility for the effective operation of all of Willow Burn Hospice’s (WBH) shops: this includes responding to operational needs of the shops, effective leadership of the Shop Managers, optimising sales, maintaining effective stock management and merchandising, and ensuring that quality, health and safety and housekeeping are monitored and developed using audits.

- Work with the Head of Fundraising and Marketing on the development of retail portfolio including shops and merchandise.

Located in Sidmouth, this is a busy shop in a brilliant location, with a vibrant community! As Shop Manager, you'll be leading the volunteer team, as well as focusing on further recruitment to grow our volunteer team and building strong connections within the local community to ensure the shop's continued success.
About You
You will be someone with exceptional people skills, a leader who understands the importance of community and enjoys supporting people to exercise similar passions through volunteering.
You'll bring:
- Proven experience leading and motivating teams, ideally having managed volunteers, or a retail team previously
- A strong understanding of what good looks like in a busy and successful community-led shop, ideally with some experience within Retail or a clear passion for sustainable fashion and knowledge of products and trends
- A can-do attitude and ability to approach challenges in a positive way, knowing when to reach out for support and guidance where you need it.
Previous charity retail experience is ideal, but not essential. If you have transferable leadership skills or experience managing volunteers in other settings and are looking for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you!

Ways of Working: On-site – this role will be based in the Sidmouth shop in Devon. The shop is currently open 6 days per week (Monday to Saturday), and we're looking for someone able to work 5 days (35 hours) per week to include some weekend working.

This is a permanent role, full-time for 37.5 hours per week. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
We are looking for a positive and innovative Visitor Experience Manager to help us deliver amazing experiences for our visitors, connect people with nature, drive visits to our reserve and generate vital income for the protection or our incredible nature and wildlife. This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months.
About Minsmere:
Minsmere is the RSPB’s flagship nature reserve based on the wild and picturesque Suffolk coast. Home to over 6000 different species Minsmere gives our visitors front row seats to incredible wildlife spectacles and views of some of the UK’s rarest wildlife like Bitterns, Marsh Harriers, Bearded Tits and Avocets.

About the role:
Exceptional visitor experience will be at the forefront of all you do, from creating and delivering a profitable events programme to developing on-brand signage and interpretation for our visitors. You will be an excellent communicator with experience of people engagement and interpretation, ideally within a visitor attraction. You will develop a marketing plan that drives visits to our reserve and manage our popular social media channels to engage and inspire visitors before they arrive.
Leading a diverse team of staff and volunteers with positivity and enthusiasm, you will be commercially minded and organised to support that team in achieving increased visitor income, footfall, and satisfaction. You will have a passion for people engagement and understand what excellent visitor experience looks like. You will be a great team player who embraces change, inspires others to reach their full potential and enjoys working closely with a wide variety of people from retail, catering and membership to the land management team and the wider HQ support teams.
You will need a full, manual driving licence that is valid in the UK and this role will require regular weekend and bank holiday working so flexibility is essential.

You will:
- Work towards agreed targets for income generation, quality of visit and visitor numbers.
- Manage the online residential volunteer booking system, induct volunteers and manage them day to day to include creating rotas.

- Ensure the reserve delivers a high quality, on brand visitor experience that encourages visitors to become members of the RSPB and contributes to the RSPB’s Saving Nature Strategy.
- Working with the Visitor Operations Manager and Site Manager to ensure that all colleagues are operating as one team to deliver a high-quality visitor experience for all visitors to the reserve.
- Contribute to the planning and efficient day to day running of the visitor operation that leads to the overall success of the reserve.
- Be a creative individual who can inspire and drive visits to our reserves. You will have lots of ideas on how to use the incredible stories our reserve has through events and experiences, in showcasing our reserve as an amazing place to visit.
