The role
We now seek an ambitious Chief Executive Officer to support our communities, now and into the future - supporting among the governments, public services and employers that can make a difference to LGBTQ+ people’s freedom, equity and potential. You will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission, shaping the strategic direction, and ensuring our continued impact on LGBTQ+ rights and equality in the UK and beyond.
This is a highly visible role and involves working to influence public policy and societal attitudes, setting the tone and direction for the agenda of LGBTQ+ rights within civil society, both directly and through their connections. You will achieve this through engaging in extensive networking and providing visionary leadership, to create meaningful and lasting change for LGBTQ+ people. This includes campaigning and influencing to affect policy and legislative changes, building lasting relationships with key supporters, donors and partners that we work with, as well as working with others from across the LGBTQ+ rights and human rights movement. Importantly, you will foster a culture of inclusivity, and driving operational excellence across all facets of the organisation.
About you
You will be an inspirational, energetic, resilient leader, with previous experience of having worked as Chief Executive or senior leader in the field of policy, influencing and social justice. As an experienced influencer and exceptional communicator, you will have presented organisations professionally and appropriately to a range of audiences including the media, funders, civil society members, political figures and influencers across the UK and in local government, as well as clients and partners and the business community.
You will come with a commitment to and ability to role model our vision, purpose and values, and to LGBTQ+ rights and our approach to race equity and trans inclusion. Equally, you will understand and be aware of intersections of oppression and an understanding of power and privilege in the workplace. Crucially, you will be able to energise and develop a smart, driven team, and continue a process of organisational evolution and strengthening.

About the role:
This is a maternity cover opportunity for a valued role in our Senior Leadership Team. This position is critical to our work in training healthcare professionals to understand how the law applies to practice. You will be delivering our ambitious plans to take our training service to the next level at this critical time, with support of our two brilliant training co-ordinators and a wider team of associate trainers. You will balance overseeing some exciting new projects whilst ensuring quality delivery of our training to meet our income targets.

At Media Trust, we believe it’s by giving everyone a voice that we’ll get to a more equal society. That’s why we’re working with hundreds of charities to strengthen their storytelling, advocacy and campaigning, press engagement and social media. We do this through media, communications and digital skills training delivered in partnership with our media and creative industry partners and by matching media industry volunteers with charities looking for help with content creation and other comms support. At the same time, we are working with hundreds of young people and talent from under-represented communities to give them the skills, access and mentoring to break into the media.
About the Role
Do you want to lead innovative and impactful programmes to strengthen the communications, campaigning, storytelling, media engagement and digital skills of organisations advocating for social justice and systemic change?
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive individual with a track record of successful programme management, who is passionate about communications that drive change.
This position will report to the Head of Programmes and oversee Media Trust's thematic strategic communications programmes that strengthen the voices of charities. Our thematic programmes support cohorts of charities working in the same area, including equalities and social justice (our Stronger Voices programme) and environmental and climate issues (our Communicating Climate programme.)
In the context of rising levels of inequality, the media and policymakers need to hear from the people whose lives are most affected. In this role, you will support user-led organisations campaigning for systemic change to speak truth to power.
Our six-month strategic communications training programmes are designed to support charities and community organisations to amplify their voice, mobilise support and influence meaningful change. These programmes include in-person and virtual training, mentoring and support from industry experts, and tailored digital resources.
This role will directly manage our Stronger Voices programme, ensuring the smooth delivery of the programme, including managing our cohort of equalities organisations; overseeing the budget and timeline; managing our relationships with funders, trainers and partners; and impact evaluation and reporting.
You will also oversee our other thematic programmes (currently Communicating Climate). You will line manage the Project Manager of Communicating Climate and a Project Coordinator.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone committed to social justice, with strong programme management skills, an understanding of strategic communications and a passion for empowering the charity sector through training and mentorship. This is a highly rewarding role which offers opportunities to engage with both the charity sector and the media and creative industries.

Galop is the UK's LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, working with and for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence.
Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced Gender Based Violence every year. Specialising in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, so-called conversion therapies, and other forms of interpersonal abuse. Galop uses what is learnt through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence.
Galop is a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of the community are at the centre of what they do.
About the Interim Chief Executive role:
As Interim CEO, you will be joining with a clear mandate to develop and deliver a short-term strategic plan, stepping into the challenge to cover the immediate needs of Galop.
Some of the key areas of responsibility will include:
Working with the Board of Trustees to ensure that Galop continues to work towards achieving its vision, aims and objectives, while also meeting regulatory and good governance requirements and adhering to its values and code of conduct.
Playing a transformational leadership role in the development of an organisation with the culture, values, people, strategy, systems and processes needed to succeed both now and in the future.
Providing strategic vision and leadership to the staff, maintaining staff morale and ensuring an organisational culture which is inclusive, anti-discriminatory and which attracts, motivates and develops a diverse and competent staff.
Leading the organisation in embedding the organisation's Anti-Racism and Diversity & Inclusion Strategy over the next 12 months.
Understanding the current climate around LGBT+ rights in the UK and being confident taking the lead in national conversations around LGBT+ abuse and violence.
Ensuring that LGBT+ survivor engagement is at the centre of Galop's work, ensuring that survivor voice is integral to of all aspects of Galop's development.
Being responsible to the Board for the financial health, probity and viability of Galop, ensuring income from diverse sources is developed and secured, and maintaining reserves in consultation with the Board.
Identifying opportunities to secure income and develop tenders and proposals, and promoting and negotiating agreements to ensure appropriate financial resources are in place to enable the organisation to achieve its objectives and meet fundraising targets in consultation with the Board.
To protect and develop the Galop brand, further building the national profile of the Charity as a values-led organisation delivering high-quality services and expertise in the needs of LGBT+ survivors.
To contribute to donor and partner relationships at the highest level, working with relevant teams to identify and where appropriate lead on approaches to high value potential supporters and funders.
Salary: circa £80k
Location & Hours: Hybrid working model with a minimum two days a week at the Galop office (City of London). Operate on a 35-hour working week, with flexible working arrangements such as compressed hours being considered.

Background and role purpose
Consortium hosts the largest network of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans + groups, projects and organisations in the UK (600 members) and offers a range of support so that they can deliver vital support and services to over 5 million LGBT+ people, their friends and families. We are also a specialist grant funder, having provided over £1.75m in grants since 2019, across 275 awards, with this being an exciting area of growth falling within the remit of this role.
We are recruiting for a Head of Partnerships and Development who will support our charity, and the LGBT+ sector, to continue growth in an appropriate and sustainable way. We are seeking an excellent relationship builder who can help us maximise our ability to generate positive social impact through relationship-building and fundraising skills.
As Head of Partnerships & Development you will be responsible for managing key business partnerships, identifying new potential income streams (for Consortium & the LGBT+ sector), and exploring opportunities to increase the impact of our work.
You will devise creative and innovative strategies including campaigns with partners, liaising with corporate contacts and building and developing relationships with new key stakeholders.
You will provide line management and support to the existing Partnerships and Development team of 5 team members (LGBT+ Fund Development Manager; Grants Officer; Communications Officer; 2 National LGBT Heath Partnership Officers). We adopt a collaborative approach across the team, so there are opportunities to actively engage with others across the entire team so we can maximise the impact we have as a charity.

As with all of our roles, we are looking for someone who is generous with their knowledge and skills so that our Members and Grantees can also benefit and develop their own organisations in a similar way through training, resource development and other engagement work.

Essential
- 2 or more years’ experience in a Development or Partnerships Management role.
- Excellent project management, planning and prioritising skills to manage a varied workload while staying focused on Consortium’s Strategy.
- Understanding of building and maintaining corporate relationships with the voluntary sector.
- Understanding of business development/fundraising cycle – generating leads, pipeline development and conversion.
- Experience working with marketing and communications functions to deliver collaborative campaigns and increase reach.
- Understanding of sustainable funding models and a curiosity to explore beyond traditional philanthropy.

As the Head of Comms & External Affairs, you will lead on the implementation of the organisations communications strategy, including developing their brand and narrative. To be successful in this role, you will have experience in marketing and/or communications roles, ideally within the third sector. You should have a solid track record with building and leading the delivery of an integrated brand, marketing and communications strategy at a national level. You will need to have comprehensive knowledge and experience of the UK political landscape and legislative process, experience of influencing the legislative processes across the nations and regions and experience of working and building relationships across political parties. You will have experience of crisis comms management and risk mitigation, together with experience of running a busy press office function. You will be ambitious, with strong situational judgement skills and the ability to act diplomatically to influence effectively.
