What the job involves 

We’re looking for a Black Health Equity Engagement Officer to join us in a newly created role in our Black Health Equity Team alongside a Senior Black Health Equity Engagement Officer. 

The team will support our community engagement function to build trust and engagement with Black community organisations and leaders across the UK. The purpose being to increase the awareness in Black communities of the risk of prostate cancer and to narrow the health inequalities faced by Black men.

As a Black Health Equity Engagement Officer, you’ll be providing the logistical support to Prostate Cancer UK’s Black Men’s Advisory Group - who provide insights, support and guidance to the charity to help us address Black health equity. You’ll attend a wide range of community events and identify ways to spread awareness and build trusting relationships with groups, organisations and networks. 

By building an understanding of the ways which health inequalities impact Black men affected by prostate cancer (and their families) you’ll establish effective and efficient working practices and gather data capturing the impact of this work. 

You’ll get to meet a wide range of supporters and work with Black communities to ensure their lived experiences shape our work and help to increase our number of Black volunteers to increase awareness. You’ll also get to work with different teams across the charity and act as a source of knowledge for our work in tackling health inequalities.

What we want from you

We’re looking for a candidate who understand health inequalities and is able to explain how they may impact Black men affected by prostate cancer. Knowledge of, or previous involvement in health awareness initiatives would be beneficial for this role, although we also value transferable skills gained from other sectors. 

You’ll have experience in organising meetings or events that cater to a diverse range of participants, ensuring that various perspectives are heard and valued, especially within Black communities.

You’ll have a proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with a wide array of stakeholders. Furthermore, you’ll be a great communicator, especially when engaging with community stakeholders. 

Please note that community events often take place on evenings or weekends – the successful candidate will need to work flexibly to attend roughly one weekend event a month and take time back mid-week. 

This role is being part-funded by Movember as part of Prostate Cancer UK’s Black Health Equity Programme.

End Violence and Racism Against East and Southeast Asian Communities (EVR)

End Violence and Racism Against East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) Communities (known as EVR) is an intergenerational organization whose mission is to prevent and address structural racism and inequality affecting ESEA communities in the UK. This is in the context of rising racism and discrimination towards all minoritised groups, with whom we seek to build allyship and solidarity.

We started out as a grassroots organisation during the Covid pandemic in 2020, in order to respond to the high level of racism experienced by people of ESEA ethnic origin. Following successful fundraising initiatives we are now building a team to enable EVR to deliver effective services and campaigns in line with its strategic goals.

Job purpose

We have an exciting opportunity to join our small but ambitious team and to make a real difference by delivering vital outreach initiatives for our hate crime reporting service, On Your Side.

On Your Side is the UK-wide support and reporting service for East and Southeast Asian communities who experience racism and/or any forms of hate.

Launched in August 2023, the service includes a 24/7 freephone helpline available in East and Southeast Asian languages; a website with reporting forms and resources; and ongoing community-based support delivered by trained casework advocates. We work to ensure that those who  experience racism and/or hate have access to the highest levels of culturally competent support while building a better picture of the nature and range of incidents so they can be better prevented.

Funded by the UK Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities, On Your Side is delivered by a consortium of 9 organisations including national and community-based groups with expertise in hate crime reporting, hate crime prevention, and supporting East and Southeast Asian communities.

We are now recruiting an Outreach Officer to develop and deliver vital initiatives to raise awareness amongst ESEA communities about On Your Side, ultimately leading to a greater use of the service amongst the communities we serve. Reporting to EVR’s Head of Services and working closely with consortium colleagues, particularly the Service Manager based at Protection Approaches, you will develop and deliver a series of outreach initiatives including online and in-person events. You will manage the On Your Side Community Champions (volunteers) programme and develop engaging marketing materials to promote the service across the four nations of the UK. Engaging and working with ESEA and other organisations will be critical to the success of this role.

This role will be based at the consortium lead organisation, identity-based violence prevention charity Protection Approaches.

About the role

Based at Protection Approaches, the Project Officer will report directly to the On Your Side Project Manager, and work closely with Protection Approaches’ team, On Your Side Casework Coordinator, Outreach Officer, and all consortium partners.

This is a new and exciting role that will be central to the delivery and development of the On Your Side service as it moves into a new phase over the next 12 months as an established, sustainable service.

In this role the Project Officer will develop their project management skills as they work with the Project Manager on overall coordination of the On Your Side service including coordination of the project delivery team across partner organisations to ensure they are meeting agreed objectives to agreed timelines.

You will oversee several distinct areas of work including overseeing the strategy and work of the On Your Side Outreach Officer in developing and implementing new engagement, outreach, communications and public education strategies. You will also oversee the publishing of a quarterly data report, and ensuring data is being recorded appropriately and accurately.

You will represent the service at high profile meetings and events including meeting with current and future funders, representatives from national and local government, other policy-makers, police and, academic experts to build the profile of the service, improve its support methodologies and impact, and assist in the development and implementation of sustainability and fundraising plans for the service.

You will be trained by the Protection Approaches Outreach team on delivery of hate crime workshops, and other trainings and use those skills to deliver awareness sessions for On Your Side, raising awareness of the service and it’s benefits while supporting ESEA community members to better understand their rights and how they can tackle racism and hate.

The role is a 12-month fixed term contract. During this period we expect to secure additional resources to ensure the ongoing delivery of this service and extend the role of Project Officer.

The successful candidate will:

• Assist the Project Manager in overall coordination of the On Your Side service including coordination of the project delivery team across partner organisations to ensure they are meeting agreed objectives to agreed timelines
• Oversee the work and strategy of the On Your Side Outreach Officer to develop and implement engagement, outreach, and public education strategies to increase knowledge about the service and use of the service
• Increase the profile and visibility of On Your Side particularly among key stakeholders in ESEA communities and service provider to establish partnerships in outreach or referrals

Main Purpose of Job 

To assist the Finance Manager and Senior Finance Assistant 

Main Duties 

1. To assist in the day to day running of the organisation’s Sales, Purchase and Nominal Ledger using Sage bookkeeping system. 
2. Assist in the maintenance of information of the Finances of the Organisation. 
3. Input information to track grants and funding using Access databases. 
4. Use computer programmes including Sage, MS Word, Excel and Access. 
5. To administer timesheets, expenses and annual leave applications.
6. Use a range of skills to communicate efficiently and effectively to support staff within the organisation.

The Fairtrade Foundation is seeking a Senior Executive Business Manager to play a critical role across Fairtrade Foundation. You will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of business operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and strategic alignment with organizational goals. This includes providing full executive support to the CEO, and broader secretarial support to the Board of Trustees. You will also have full responsibility for company secretary duties.

The Senior Executive Business Manager will be a core role within the Strategy and Planning team, a small, talented group responsible for strategic planning and implementation, design and project management of critical strategic initiatives and the delivery of organisational governance ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will need to be an exceptional relationship builder at all levels of an organisation, a self-starter who thrives on autonomous working, highly organised and have meticulous attention to detail. You will be experienced at business partnering at CEO level and adept at providing active and efficient support across the CEO's diary, inbox and general portfolio of work.

You will understand charity governance, and have provided support to a board both on a logistical, practical basis, as well as ensuring delivery across the spectrum of organisational governance and company secretary requirements. You will be both a hands-on ‘do-er’ as well have the capability to stitch together strategic consequences of the activities within your remit.

The Start Fund Programme Officer will work as part of a team to implement the global Start Fund, which is the Start Network's flagship programme disbursing around £20m in awards to network member organisations each year. The global Start Fund provides rapid financing in response to underfunded small to medium scale crises, spikes in chronic humanitarian crises, and in anticipation of impending crises, filling a critical gap in humanitarian financing.

We advocate for radical change in the global aid system so that the world can deal better with the humanitarian challenges of today, and of the future.  Our work focuses on three areas to change the system:

• New forms of financing – providing fast, early, and dependable funding, to help communities to become more resilient to crises.
• Collective innovation – testing new ways of working and sharing learning and expertise to build a more effective humanitarian system.

The Start Network is at a critical point in its journey. We have grown and diversified our membership over the past 10 years. We are now set to evolve into a decentralised “network of networks” by 2025. We are currently working with five national and regional networks (hubs) in Pakistan, DRC, Guatemala, India and the Pacific. They are developing locally led ways of anticipating and responding to humanitarian crises. We aim to support the emergence and development of further Hubs in the coming years. Our ultimate ambition is to devolve leadership, membership, programming and decision making to the hubs, while the UK team transitions to provide services of support.

The team of Start Fund Programme Officers work with colleagues across both Save the Children UK (SCUK) and the Start Network.

About the Role

Key for the post-holder is engagement with Start Network member organisations, and effective coordination with the wider Start team, to ensure that the Start Fund continues to enable early, timely and effective humanitarian action.

You will also play a role in identifying and implementing technological solutions to improve Start Fund operational efficiency, and collaborating with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to ensure that learning contributes to strengthened programming, and a continually improving funding mechanism (the Start Funds). You will also support other areas of fund management, currently including crisis anticipation and support to national Start Funds (e.g., Start Fund Bangladesh and Start Fund Nepal).

The role includes working with a wide range of stakeholders within SCUK and other agencies within the Start Network and Start Platform.

You will also be responsible for project and team administration, such as processing of disbursements and record keeping of all project documents. You will support reporting, project compliance and escalate complaints and incidents. Furthermore, you will:

• Be responsible for Grant management throughout the Start Fund alert cycle.
• Provide support to the Start Fund Committee representatives and humanitarian personnel world-wide, in the decision-making processes.
• Implement the Start Fund, while identifying ways on which the programme could be improved from an operational perspective.
• Support MEAL colleagues to capture data accurately, analyse learning and emerging patterns to enable effective monitoring, evaluation and learning.
• Contribute to the mainstreaming of anticipation and early action in the Start Funds through information sharing and capacity strengthening initiatives.
• Support members, particularly local and national NGOs in accessing Start Fund through member engagement activities and critical review and support with Start Fund process adaptations.

About You

To be successful you will have experience working within the humanitarian sector and proven experience of project cycle management and financial management. As well as a flexible ‘can do' attitude, you should have the ability to manage an unpredictable workload and use your initiative. Strong data management and analysis skills are essential, as is:

• Experience in organising events and engaging varied stakeholders in complex issues.
• Proven skills in developing log frames, proposals and budgets, and in reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with stakeholders at different levels.
• Competency in a second language, preferably Spanish, French or Arabic.
• Demonstrable experience of collaboration, including forging and maintain effective new relationships and partnerships, often across organizational boundaries.

Ways of Working:

We’re looking for an experienced Political Advocacy Officer to join World Vision, an important charity helping vulnerable children across the world.

About the role:

As a Political Advocacy Officer, your role will be to work with policy and programmatic experts to help influence government, parliamentary and sector targets, coordinate events, and play a part in mobilising World Vision’s tens of thousands of UK supporters around our cause of standing with the world’s most vulnerable children. You’ll find yourself working with key political stakeholders, parliamentary networks, and committees.

Key areas of responsibility include:  

• Grow World Vision’s influence through developing and maintaining new relationships with key political contacts to achieve WVUK advocacy goals and support the implementation of the advocacy strategy.
• Monitor, analyse and brief key internal contacts/stakeholders on parliamentary and political activity relevant to WVUK with a particular focus on issues affecting most vulnerable children, faith and development, and fragile contexts.
• Lead WVUK’s engagement with parliamentary processes (such as WPQs, oral questions, etc.)
• Coordinate and lead the planning and delivery of political events (including annual political party conferences), supporting others where necessary.
• Carve out moments of political engagement of WVUK colleagues and support them through those engagements - including WVUK leadership and Policy and Programmes team.

· Represent WVUK in relevant sector forums to help develop strong relationships with peers.

· Work with the Media and Comms Strategy Manager to create, craft and place political opinion pieces and statements in targeted media.

· Work with policy experts and Policy and Campaigns Advisor to develop and disseminate advocacy positions to influence government, parliamentary, supporter, and sector targets.

· Work with the Media and Comms Strategy Manager and the Public Engagement Department to mobilise supporters around our cause of standing with the most vulnerable children.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with creativity and drive, who is confident engaging and building relationships with political decision-makers and networks.

You’ll need superb writing skills, good working knowledge of and/or interest in UK government and politics and be skilled in building relationships to influence change. Experience in international development, and/or UK politics is desired but not required. We are looking for a team player with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and grow. Most importantly, you must be passionate about advocating alongside and for children in the world’s poorest and most fragile places, and ensuring their needs and voices are heard at the highest level of government and parliament.

Key skills required for this role:

· Educated to degree level or equivalent level of thinking gained through experience.

· Good working knowledge of and interest in UK government and politics.

· A demonstrated ability to engage decision-makers and opinion formers and to influence them to achieve change.

· Excellent written communication skills, with an ability to understand and explain issues affecting the most vulnerable children for a range of audiences.

· Understanding of WVUK’s Christian foundation and approaches to social justice, and an ability to communicate these sensitively and appropriately.
