Develop community organising, advocacy and leadership skills...and help to end poverty!

RESULTS is a grassroots advocacy organisation working to generate the political will to end extreme poverty. RESULTS supports a network of people across the UK to become more knowledgeable about a range of development challenges and solutions. We also support them to learn how they can influence political processes in order to bring about positive changes for the world’s poor.

RESULTS activists, working together in local groups, have been successful at campaigning for improved development policies and leveraging millions of pounds for programmes that give poor people the health, education, and opportunity they need to thrive. In order to have an even greater impact, we are looking to start up lots of new groups around the UK.

About the position

We are looking for passionate and proactive people to help us to expand existing RESULTS groups and to start new RESULTS groups across the UK. With your help we hope to build an even stronger network of champions and spokespeople for the end of poverty.

This position is ideal for individuals who are looking to develop skills and experience in community engagement and empowerment; develop advocacy and media skills; as well as build your knowledge of current international development issues. The position is a challenging, but rewarding one that will enable you to meet like-minded people and take local actions that have a global impact.

The role of Advocacy Group Coordinator is an unpaid, voluntary position which you can fit in around your other commitments. The role will require approximately four hours of your time a week, with more time required in the initial stages if you are helping to start up a new group.

Key responsibilities:

• Supporting RESULTS groups in your area to expand their membership and/or helping individuals in your area to start new RESULTS groups.
• Organising meetings with community groups such as student groups and faith-based organisations to introduce them to the work of RESULTS.
• Organising events to educate people in your community about development issues and encourage them to get involved with RESULTS.
• Building relationships with local media and generating coverage of international development issues and the work of RESULTS.
• Supporting and encouraging RESULTS activists in your area to take action.
• Coaching new group members about RESULTS, and on key skills such as how to organise monthly ‘briefing and action’ meetings and how to take advocacy actions.

What you would get in return:

• Experience of working as part of a dynamic international development organisation, working at the local level to generate the public and political will necessary to end global poverty.
• Experience of event organising, partnership building, community engagement, advocacy and engaging the media.
• Knowledge of specific development issues and how individual actions can help generate the political will to end poverty through taking action on these issues.
• Educational resources, training and support provided by experienced RESULTS staff and volunteers.

This is an ongoing opportunity so please feel free to apply before the deadline!
