About Us

An independent charity, The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) has been leading efforts to incorporate the values of environmental sustainability into the health sector since its establishment in 2008. Our work is underpinned by CSH’s Principles of Sustainable Clinical Practice: prevention; patient empowerment; lean care systems; low carbon alternatives.   

CSH has a particular focus on:    

• engaging those on the front line of patient care and promoting the concept of ‘sustainable clinical practice’ 
• enabling the use of the natural environment at NHS settings to be used as ‘nature-based solutions’ in healthcare.

As the strategic management body of Broxbourne Big Local, The Board of Trustees have specific responsibilities. These include responsibility for directing the affairs of BBL, ensuring it keeps good finances and is well run, and that it acts within its aims. Trustees are responsible with looking after the resources of BBL ensuring that these are used effectively for the overall purpose of the organisation. 

Trustees are accountable for their decisions and actions to the BBL’s governance structures, the public, Courts, funders and the people who use our services. You will be committed to delivering meaningful outcomes for our beneficiaries and to reaching ever greater numbers of people through our strategic plan. 

The successful candidates will have some understanding of the charity landscape and be comfortable with the governance requirements that it carries, will have some senior/leadership level experience, an understanding of finances, be commercially savvy and ideally have experience of working with communities (this is desirable but not essential). 

Responsibilities 

▪ To agree on and regularly monitor the BBL’s strategic direction and ensure that it pursues its objectives in keeping with its strategic directions. 

▪ To ensure that the organisation functions within the legal, charitable and financial requirements of a charitable organisation, pursues its objects and strives to achieve best practice. 

▪ To contribute actively to giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. 

▪ To act in the best interests of BBL’s objectives. 

▪ To safeguard the good name, ethos and values of the organisation. 

▪ To ensure the effective and efficient administration of BBL. 

▪ To ensure the financial stability of the organisation and the proper investment of funds in accordance with BBL’s stated aims and objectives and relevant legislation. 

▪ To appoint the Senior Executive Officer, support him/her and monitor their performance.

Time Commitment

• Up to 10 Board meetings per year on weekday early evenings, including one away day.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. The Role of the Board

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. Specifically, the Board is responsible for:

• Ensuring that the charity and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of charities and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
• Upholding the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
• Determining the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.

Trustee - Role Description

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to organisational activities contained therein.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisations’ objects, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
• Interviewing, appointing, and monitoring the work and activities of the senior paid staff if necessary.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds if necessary
• Maintaining absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity.

Accountable to

• Attendance at quarterly meetings (held in central London on a weekday from 2–5pm)

We are recruiting 2 new members to the BBC’s Charity Appeals Advisory Committee (AAC) which is made up of independent experts from the charitable sector.  The AAC is a voluntary body which advises and supports the BBC’s Executive Board in matters relating to good governance and effectiveness of BBC charity appeals.

Role Responsibility

AAC members advise on policy, scrutiny, the allocation of broadcasting time and the strategic development of the BBC’s relationship to appeals. These include BBC Children in Need, Comic Relief, the Radio 4 Appeal, BBC One Lifeline, appeals in the Nations and English Regions, appeals on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee and other projects where funds are raised for charities.

 The Ideal Candidates

We’re keen to hear from people who are, or who have been in a senior leadership role in a charity and who can bring expertise in charity governance and management. In particular we’re looking for people with specialist knowledge in one of the following sectors:

· Disability

· International Development

We’ll also need you to be able to demonstrate expertise in at least 2 of the following: social policy, fundraising, finance, grant making, legal issues, monitoring and evaluation.

The appointment will be for three years, renewable for a further three years by agreement. The position is unpaid but reasonable expenses will be met.

• Provide strategic guidance and advice to the executive team on a range of issues, including business development, marketing, and operations, with a specific focus on national expansion and the launch of our personal care services in the UK.
• Oversee the company's financial performance and ensure that we are on track to meet our financial goals, considering the resources needed for national growth and the launch of a new service line.
• Serve as an EqualEdge ambassador and help us build relationships with key stakeholders in new markets and within the UK care sector.
• Attend board meetings and actively participate in discussions, bringing a national perspective and insights relevant to your area of expertise.
