The Role

What will I be doing?

You’ll be responsible for a range of activities, including:

Co-design and deliver initiatives: Collaborate with the IOP and wider partner teams (Royal Society of Chemistry and Science Made Simple) to deliver core project activities including:

• Welsh Physics Teaching Network
• Easy Teach professional learning sessions
• Physics Forums
• Resource Round-Ups
• Whole-School Inclusion and Equity Network activities
• Primary and Secondary Science Days

Professional development delivery: Deliver evidence-based CPD, mentoring, and coaching to support practitioners, particularly early-career and out-of-field teachers, to build subject knowledge and confidence in teaching physics in line with the Curriculum for Wales.

Equity and inclusion: Contribute to equity-focused interventions that explore and address systemic and school-level barriers to post-16 physics participation, including unconscious bias and science capital gaps.

Monitoring and reporting: Track and evaluate programme delivery, capturing data on participation, feedback, outcomes, and impact. Contribute to quarterly monitoring reports and support external evaluation.

Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with schools in Wales, education stakeholders, and fellow partners. Represent the IOP in local networks and act as a regional champion for physics education.

Continuous learning: Develop and maintain your expertise in science education, curriculum reform, inclusion strategies, and subject-specific pedagogy to ensure interventions are current, effective, and aligned with practitioners' needs.

How will I be working?

Interim Senior Financial Controller (6-Month FTC)

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Financial Controller to join a highly regarded educational and charitable organisation in central London on a six-month fixed-term contract to provide stability while they recruit permanently. 

Reporting to the Finance Bursar you will provide leadership to an established finance team while overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of a complex organisation. This role offers the opportunity to make an immediate impact, ensuring robust financial control, delivering an efficient finance service, and supporting the continued embedding of a recently implemented finance system.

The organisation is seeking an individual who can hit the ground running, provide stability during a busy period and quickly build credibility with stakeholders across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading month-end and year-end financial accounting processes, ensuring an accurate and timely trial balance.
• Managing financial operations including purchase-to-pay, billing, income collection, cash management and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Supporting year-end audit processes and statutory reporting requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with charity, tax and regulatory requirements, including VAT and Gift Aid.
• Driving continuous improvement across finance systems, controls and processes.
• Leading, coaching and developing a transactional finance team.
• Acting as a key finance business partner to senior stakeholders across the organisation.

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) with substantial financial accounting experience gained within a medium to large organisation. You will have a proven track record of leading teams, improving processes and maintaining strong financial controls within a complex environment.

Experience within the education, charity or not-for-profit sectors would be advantageous, although candidates from other sectors with relevant technical expertise will also be considered.

About the role

Working with housing associations and other local partners, we run free tutoring programmes for primary school children and their families, providing access to vital educational support to those who need it most. Job Description

The Programme Officer will be responsible for the management and overall delivery of their designated programmes.This role will involve managing relationships with tutors, parents and clients, while collecting robust qualitative and quantitative data to measure the impact and build the success of our work. About the Role

In this proactive, people-focused role, you’ll work closely with established community businesses to strengthen their operations, improve sustainability, and maximise social impact. The Union of Students are looking for a Payroll Senior Coordinator to assist the Head of Finance in the smooth running of the Union Finance Department. They will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll, helping to maintain precise financial records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant payroll regulations. This role involves collaborating with the Human Resources team to manage employee data and contribute to the smooth operation of the wider finance team. The post holder will assist in the preparation of accurate and timely Financial Management accounts and oversee the Sales Ledger and Finance Coordinator role ensuring that the sales ledger invoices are accurate and income is received. They will pay attention to detail and can work in a busy environment and to tight deadlines. It is expected that they will provide cover for the finance team in periods of absence as other team members would be expected to provide cover for this role under the same circumstances. As a member of the Union of Students the post holder will contribute to and support the delivery of our Strategic Plan.

Main Responsibilities

Payroll Management

• Manage end-to-end administration of permanent and student payrolls using SAGE.
• Ensure full compliance with HMRC, pension and statutory requirements.
• Process monthly and four‑weekly payrolls, including timesheets, holiday pay and accruals.
• Maintain accurate payroll records, cost centre allocations and control account reconciliations.
• Complete all HMRC submissions (RTI, PAYE, P60s, P11Ds, P45s, Class 1A NI).
• Administer pension schemes, including monthly payments, annual reviews and statutory re‑enrolment.
• Manage payroll-related benefits including car parking deductions and healthcare schemes.
• Act as a payroll point of contact for staff, providing guidance and resolving queries.

Human Resources Administration

• Coordinate documentation for new starters and leavers, including right‑to‑work checks.
• Maintain accurate employee records across HR systems and master spreadsheets.
• Administer holiday entitlements, pro‑rata calculations and service‑based enhancements.
• Monitor sickness absence and trigger alerts in line with organisational policy.
• Act as first point of contact for routine HR queries and provide basic workforce reporting.
• Support day‑to‑day HR administration to ensure smooth organisational operations.

Financial Management & Reporting

• Support the Head of Finance in producing high‑quality, timely financial management information.
• Prepare monthly cost centre reports and ensure journals are accurate and submitted on schedule.
• Oversee sales ledger activity, ensuring invoices are accurate and income is received promptly.
• Identify and escalate financial risks or issues as they arise.
• Contribute to business case development and continuous improvement initiatives across teams.

This is a rewarding and varied frontline role where no two days are the same. You will be involved in rescuing and supporting vulnerable animals, coordinating veterinary treatment and ongoing care, supporting fostering and rehoming pathways, responding to welfare concerns and helping deliver community welfare initiatives across the Branch area.

You will work closely with members of the public, volunteers, fosterers, veterinary partners, local Inspectorate teams and external agencies to help deliver high-quality welfare support to animals in need. The role will also include supporting the Branch Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programme for stray and feral cats, assisting with animal transport and admissions, maintaining welfare records and helping strengthen frontline animal welfare provision across North London.

We are looking for someone with previous experience in animal welfare, rescue or a similar environment who is confident handling cats and other domestic animals, able to manage varied casework calmly and professionally, and committed to delivering high standards of animal welfare with empathy and compassion.

The role will include some occasional evenings and weekends in line with operational needs.
