Job description

As the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, the British Academy champions the study of peoples, cultures and societies – past, present and future. Bringing independence, authority and objectivity to complex issues, we contribute significantly to public policy, skills, education and research and help to shape both society and the economy.

There is an opportunity to join us as part of the Research Funding Team. The Team works closely with Fellows, Officers and Committees of the Academy to manage and support the growing portfolio of research funding opportunities which funds excellent researchers to address many of the challenges we face today, supports the next generation of research leaders, and provides authoritative and impartial evidence and advice to policymakers. They also engage with the research community to raise awareness and engagement with the Academy’s research funding opportunities.

The Research Funding Assistant will support the work of the Team across the portfolio of funding schemes, with specific administrative responsibilities for the support of ongoing activities and tasks related to the delivery of Newton International Fellowships and UK funded schemes. They will support the monitoring and reporting of the Academy’s research funding opportunities, as well as the decision-making processes for the delivery of funding schemes and awards, including helping to organise and manage selection meetings. The successful candidate will proactively work with colleagues across the Academy, in addition to engaging with the research community to raise awareness and engagement with the Academy’s research funding opportunities.

We are seeking an individual who is committed to deliver the role to a high standard, whilst supporting change, and enthusiastic to work collaboratively to deliver the goals of the role, the team and the wider organisation. They will have experience of office practices and administrative processes, with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. They will be very organised and methodical in their approach, extremely flexible, comfortable dealing with changing priorities and happy to travel nationally, where required.

The Academy offers 34 days of annual holiday + bank holidays, excellent benefits (including a defined benefit pension scheme) and one of the best locations in London.
