Our Bank Support Worker roles are similar to our Support Workers roles, but they work on a more flexible, temporary basis – so if you don’t want to commit to a regular working pattern and prefer to pick up shifts that work for you, when they are available, this role is for you. It's also a great way into the organisation and can be a stepping stone into other roles. 

We are looking for Supported Housing Bank Support Workers to join our East Sussex teams at  and , our 24-hour supported accommodation projects; housing young people aged 16 to 25 for up to 2 years. You will bring your own individual and unique qualities to the team for the betterment of the team dynamic. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the services, along with supporting young people to develop living skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, managing behaviour, seeking and securing employment and making wise decisions. When required you will record any incidents, accidents and safeguarding issues and share information with relevant colleagues. You will also undertake housing management and health and safety-related tasks as required. This role has a flexible range of shifts; the hours can include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Firstly, you will be passionate about being involved in the support and growth of young people. You will ideally have experience of working with a similar client group and a good understanding of the key risks, challenges and opportunities for young people, along with an awareness of all aspects of safeguarding. You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, working in a client facing role, with the ability to self-motive to drive to deliver an outstanding service. You will be an effective communicator who is able to deliver robust, clear handovers and build strong relationships with other members of your team. In addition, you will have the ability to de-escalate volatile situations and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.

YMCA West Sussex Transitional housing provides safe, secure accommodation for young people aged 18-25, who have been, or are at risk of homelessness. Our staff team comprises of Supported Housing Support Workers, Mobile Night Workers and two Managers. We offer a support package alongside the accommodation to actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work.

In delivering the role, you will work with the Deputy Supported Housing Manager and the wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our transitional accommodation service. You will have your own caseload of residents, working creatively and effectively alongside young people to develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the service by providing consistency and reliability. You will have a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. You will also support young people to safeguard themselves against abuse and risk. There will be times when lone working will be a requirement for this role.

This role is based on site in Horsham and will cover Transitional services across Horsham, Crawley, Burgess Hill and Worthing. Your working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

This is a dynamic and varied role; you will be passionate about being involved in the support and growth of young people and will be able to actively encourage residents into education, training, and employment. 

Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of working with young people, knowledge of housing and welfare benefits, along with an awareness of all aspects of safeguarding. You will already be a team player but also able to work on your own initiative, along with clear verbal and written communication skills, good IT skills.

It is essential that you hold a current driving license and have access to a car for this role.

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role where you are able to support young people by providing a safe environment for them to feel safe and comfortable?

You will be working as part of the team in Horsham looking after young people aged 16 -17 in a warm and homely environment. Young people come to us from a variety of backgrounds and have various and often complex needs. The team is made up of passionate and caring individuals, who work together to provide holistic support to the young people in our care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our specialist supported accommodation is a safe and secure environment where young people are supported to acquire the necessary skills in preparation for living independently and can safely explore their increased freedom and choice and develop the responsibilities associated with adulthood.

Your primary role will be to keep our service and young people, safe. You will help to contribute to a great working environment, with a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. In addition, you will complete health and safety checks, ensuring the service is clean and tidy and reporting any repairs. You will be lone working as part of the role, so you will need to be comfortable with decision making and following procedures.

You will work a shift of 8pm-7am on a four night on, four night off rota. Although these are long shifts, you will get four days off after, which can provide a great work life balance.

Ideally you will have experience working with young people, those considered vulnerable or with multiple and complex needs along with being able to demonstrate a real passion for wanting to work with young people. You will have an understanding of the needs of single homeless clients aged 16-25 and the ability to engage, motivate and inspire, with a strong commitment to changing the life of others for the better.

You will already have clear verbal and written communication skills, good IT and keyboard skills and the ability to self-motivate. You will be proactive in you thinking, with the ability to manage lots of tasks at the same time and keep appropriate records. In addition, you will have the ability to de-escalate volatile situations and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.
