This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.
The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. JOB SUMMARY:
- Multi-faceted position encompassing all aspects of financial bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable and management accounting.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages accounts payable and receivable processes in timely fashion, ensuring accuracy.

Qualifications
- Relevant Finance degree level education or qualified by experience.
- AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable.

- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in management accounting roles with excellent knowledge of general accounting techniques

About the position
The successful candidate will be a finance professional with experience of working in an accounts payable function in an international environment. The successful candidate will come either from a similar position in another charity or from industry, looking to move into the international charity sector. The Finance Officer will provide all staff with day-to-day advice and support on finance matters to ensure that there is good understanding of and compliance with financial controls and processes. The Finance Officer will also provide support for the Financial Accountant in the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliation; bank and treasury management; and the production of schedules required in relation to the year-end statutory accounts.
Responsibilities
Accounts payable
• Preparing weekly payments runs within the accounting system (Microsoft Business Central) in accordance with the agreed timetable and financial procedures, ensuring correct coding of all costs and checking completeness and accuracy of all supporting documentation;
• Setting up all payments for release via online banking by management;
• Checking all staff and consultant expense claims and monthly credit card returns, including reconciliation of any staff advances;
• Acting as a point of contact for all accounts payable queries;
• Maintaining a strong control environment, ensuring accounting records are complete and accurate; and
• Assisting on process and systems improvements which lead to more effective financial control;
• Monitoring Expensify and providing training to new users as required.
Financial accounting
• Ensure all transactions are processed accurately within the accounting system (Microsoft Business Central) – posting adjustments where necessary
• Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts
• Assist the Financial Accountant with balance sheets reconciliations as needed
• Assist the Financial Accountant with the maintenance of the fixed asset register and inventory
• Assist the Head of Finance and the Financial Accountant to maintain the organisational accounting system including the development of new systems and processes
• Help generate supporting schedules required in relation to the year-end statutory accounts and audits

Banking and treasury management
• Provide administrative support in relation to all bank accounts;
• Monitor bank balances and currency requirements; and
• Ensure staff travelling overseas requests for advances and credit card top ups are dealt with in a timely manner.
Other
• Resolve queries from suppliers, funders and other external customers; and
• Advise local staff, consultants and partners on financial matters and provide support as required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Harington is an Ofsted registered specialist college based in North London rated good, working with around 52 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment, that delivers outstanding personalised education, learning, and support, which leads to further education, employment opportunities, and a fulfilling life for each of our students.
We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.
Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. The Role
This is an exciting time to join the Harington, as we have recently appointed a new Principal/CEO. We want to ensure that the Harington is able to fulfil and secure its mission to benefit our young people, both now and into the future.
In the next year we will consolidate what we do well and seek to strengthen the areas where we could do better. The Interim COO will work with all stakeholders and closely with the Principal/CEO to review, plan and implement the necessary changes. The role is initially for 9 months, but it is anticipated that it will continue after the initial review and planning period.
This Interim Chief Operating Officer role will:-
1)Support the development and implementation of the strategic plan and through the annual Operations Plan and Budget, and be responsible for measuring and evaluating progress against goals and targets
