Job description

This is a new, exciting and critical role; you and your team will be responsible for changing lives through outreach, sales and vendor support and developing that geographical area.

The Role

Main duties of the Frontline Manager will include:

  • Line managing the Frontline team 
    • ensuring effective distribution of our magazine to vendors, 
    • inspiring your team to work in a positive way, 
    • providing regular supervision
  • Proactively seeking opportunities to build and maintain strong third-party networks and working partnerships and together establish clear support pathways for vendors in your area.
  • You will set KPIs and measure the outputs of your team effectively, supported by the Impact team who will ensure your outputs are aggregated across the UK and that we can evidence the difference we make to the lives of vendors and others. 
  • Into the future, The Big Issue will establish a wider set of social enterprise solutions and you will lead your frontline team & volunteers to become an agile team providing support to vendors and in the future to other BI social enterprises that provide routes out of poverty

Skills & Experience

We are looking for Frontline Manager with the following:

  • The ability to lead and inspire confidence in direction and courage in those who work with you.
  • A good knowledge of the social/public sector environment, particularly third-party organisations relating to homelessness, universal credit, mental health, substance abuse and employment.  You will also have a strong understanding of how to effectively access these services. 
  • Experience of managing remotely and/or a mobile team (in particular those based in vans)and understand the challenges this may bring and how to mitigate them.
  • Financial acuity with the ability to set, monitor and report on budgets and delivery impact.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and find solutions where issues may arise
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and ability to communicate with authenticity both verbally and in writing.
  • A strong understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice and policy

  • Salary commensurate with the third sector
  • Incremental holiday entitlement starting at 25 days per year plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time staff) plus paid leave to care for a sick child or grandchild and a sick or elderly relation
