Job Purpose

The Active Wellbeing programme is a specialist mental health exercise referral programme. This programme is designed to engage and promote health and wellbeing to people diagnosed with a severe mental illness (SMI). The programme involves delivering a 10 week, 1:1 personal training programme to clients with severe mental health illnesses (SMI) which can include: Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Severe Clinical Depression.
The Active Wellbeing programme – Learning Disabilities (AW)
The Active Wellbeing programme is expanding to work with adults with learning disabilities who also have a long and enduring mental health condition. The programme LD involves delivering a 10 week, 1:1 personal training programme to clients with long and enduring mental health conditions and individuals with learning disabilities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver a weekly physical activity session for each client considering safety and progression with each of the 10 sessions.
- Monitor clients exercise intensity, type, and ability to ensure clients are exercising safely.
- Monitoring clients mental wellbeing during sessions to ensure safety and communicating any concerns to the line manager.
- Responsible for arranging weekly sessions with clients (and in some cases carers alongside)
- High level of communication between instructor and client (in some cases carers or support workers) to confirm session times and locations.
- High level of communication between instructor and line manager to report any concerns with a clients mental and physical wellbeing during sessions.
- Provide motivation and encouragement for clients to engage in sessions and stay engaged in their programme.

Job Purpose
This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.
Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. - To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
- To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.

- To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
- To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
- To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation

Overall Duties of the role will include:
- Being an accessible point of contact for the children living with our carers and to our young people, keeping them up to date with the facilities and opportunities available with TACT

The Education Support Worker will provide intensive support to Ukrainian refugee families within the local area who are experiencing challenges understanding, navigating and accessing the education system.
Students who have their learning and wellbeing needs met will develop the capacity to engage more effectively with school, which will reduce the risk of falling behind, increase social participation and wellbeing, and contribute to building opportunities for their future.
This is a new role within our team, so the successful candidate will have the specialist knowledge and expertise required to build a sustainable framework of support for Ukrainian refugee children and their families. The Education Support Worker will work alongside the Surrey County Council education support services and schools and will be guided by professional advice.
The key activities of the role will include:
· Supporting families to develop a Support Plan that sets academic and wellbeing goals, based on the young person’s individual circumstances and needs
· Supporting families to understand the local school system, relevant curriculum, and the types of support available within the local area
· Supporting families to prepare and submit school based administration and engage with the school, through provision of advocacy at school meetings and liaising with school staff as required
· Develop a resource kit to share with families, which outlines services, supports and tools available to families
· Signpost to additional support for students, in particular linking with EERN network of education support volunteers and other local services

Role Overview:
We are searching for a candidate with excellent people management skills to fill the role of Mental Health and Wellbeing Manager at Depaul UK, London. You will help us to promote positive mental health coping strategies and the overall wellbeing of clients, volunteers and staff through various practices that ultimately empower people to take control of their own mental health and wellbeing.
You will develop relevant structures and processes that support front line staff in dealing with young people with poor mental health including supporting staff to better navigate statutory mental health services and provide greater advocacy for those facing crisis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise project workers and help build capacity in those staff and volunteers supporting clients in improving and maintaining positive wellbeing
- Develop a suite of wellbeing resources including workshop and activities for staff, volunteers and young people to attend and benefit from
- Provide reports as required for funders and management
- Consult with HR and other relevant stakeholders to implement an effective mental health and wellbeing training scheme for staff, volunteers and clients
- Ensure lone working, safeguarding and quality assurance measures are followed and managed appropriately, reporting any relevant issues in accordance with project procedures in a timely manner
- Build local partnerships with statutory and community mental health and wellbeing organisations and services that lead to greater outcomes for our clients

What We Are Looking For – Person Specification:

The Children's Society are investing in a new young people's wellbeing hub in the London Borough of Newham. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to shape a service as part of The Children's Society's mission to reverse the decline of children's wellbeing by 2030.
We believe support should be provided at the earliest possible opportunity, before young people reach crisis point. The service will be set up as a hub, with opportunities to expand to other delivery sites (spokes) and will be designed so that young people do not need an appointment to access support.
The service will work with young people holistically, offering a combination of information, advice, signposting, targeted activities, and therapeutic interventions that respond to young people's individual needs, so that they can regain and maintain their wellbeing.
As part of a service design process, we've been working collaboratively with professionals, young people, communities, and others in Newham to develop solutions that respond directly to children's needs.
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
In order to be successful in this role, you must have:
-Excellent understanding of the emotional health and wellbeing needs of children and young people in the local community, informed by current research and evidence bases.
-Experience of working in a trauma-informed and inclusive way. Including working holistically to see, support and respond to young people's 'whole selves'.

The position is a dual role. You’ll join as the organisation’s sole dedicated Youth Worker and will lead on a portion of Free to Be’s year-round follow-on support for vulnerable young people who we have initially engaged via our Thrive Outside residentials. This will involve working with a member of the management team to run our Young Leader and Mentoring programmes as well as working one to one with a small caseload of our children who have more complex needs.
You’ll also help lead at least 10 of our residential projects across each year - working on the ground with the children, leading the volunteers, and helping make the projects special, safe, and transformative for vulnerable young people.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Youth Work (approx. 60% of workload):
When not on residentials (see below), you’ll help to lead the delivery of our year-round work. All of our young people come to us initially through our Thrive Outside ‘Gateway’ residentials. Through that residential week they’ll build deep trust with the organisation. Many however have complex life situations requiring longer term support. Your role will be to deliver and lead the youth work elements of this longer-term support. This will include:
a) Co-lead our ‘Young Leader’ Programme. This programme currently consists of a weekend residential training project to skill up young people, aged 14-17, who have previously attended residentials as younger children, to return as volunteers on those projects. Young Leaders also attend a thank you and feedback weekend each Autumn. We have recently begun to develop this programme further to offer greater year-round support including 1:1 keywork and support through challenges; sessions focusing on life skills development; linking them into work experience/capacity building experiences. We would also like to develop a ‘Youth Board’ or similar in the coming couple of years. You will lead the youth development aspects of the programme: delivering support sessions and keywork to Young Leaders, arranging development opportunities, building participation, and growing the offer over time.
b) Hold a small caseload of higher need young people. Working with a caseload of 4-6 young people at any one time you will deliver targeted 1:1 keywork sessions supporting young people with significant needs – offering advice, support, activities, and crucially help to work through sensitive or complex issues including difficult relationships with parents/carers; low school attendance; challenges with emotional/mental health.
c) Hold a small caseload of volunteer mentors and their mentees - providing regular support, supervision, and guidance meetings to the mentors; ensure mentors are running sessions safely and in line with policy; leading Start of Mentoring meetings with children, parents and mentors; taking the lead on liaising with the wider network of support around the child Including advocacy, attending multi agency meetings and safeguarding referrals. Mentoring is one of Free to Be's follow-on programmes.
d) of support, building on relationships built during our Initial residentials. Volunteer mentors are matched to our existing young people requiring ongoing support, and then offer regular sessions for at least a year with a focus on building young people's confidence and emotional health.
2. Thrive Outside Project Coordination (approx. 40% of workload):
Our residential projects are immersive, exhausting in all the right ways, and full of opportunities for children to feel included, valued and successful. Children usually spend 5 days at a time with us - many will paddle in the sea for the first time, play hide and seek in the woods, build rafts, canoe across lakes, visit farms, forests, ruined castles and splash through streams. A small number of projects are camping based, but most run from a variety of residential centres that we hire for the purpose. The majority of these projects take place during the school holidays.
We want you to play a key part in at least 10 such projects a year. Initially spending time in the different project roles (working intensively with small groups of children; providing floating support to the project coordinators; perhaps overseeing catering or driving our minibusses.). Once you are familiar with the way projects work, we will support you to progress to lead and coordinate them, working alongside a member of our staff team or an experienced volunteer. This will involve managing teams of between 5 and 25 volunteers, to oversee the wellbeing of between 8 and 20 children and young people per project.
Jointly with the other project coordinator, you will:

Take lead responsibility for the organisation, structure, and safe running of the project.

Provide leadership, support and direction to the project’s volunteer team. Set the tone and ethos of the project, understand and model Free to Be’s approach to supporting young people, and lead the team to create the best experience possible for the children.

Build excellent working relationships with Free to Be’s children and young people, ensuring they feel welcomed and included and that their safety and support needs are fully met during the project.

Support the volunteer team to respond effectively and in a positive manner to children presenting behaviour,risk issues (including safeguarding issues), or other challenges which may arise.

Liaise with the parents/carers of Free to Be children, building positive and supportive relationships, understanding many may have been let down by statutory or other organisations in the past.

Work to ensure safety and quality standards on residentials are of the highest level by ensuring Free toBe’s policies and processes, (including safeguarding, health and safety) are implemented at all times and issues are efficiently and constructively problem-solved, with the support of the leadership team.
