We are looking for someone to volunteer their time to being a Clerk for our small charity supporting children in the one of the poorest places on the planet to exit extreme poverty.
What will you be doing
As a key part of the governance of the charity, the commitment and energy you can bring to our Board will make a key difference to the charity and the children we support.
You will work closely with the Board of Trustees, especially the Secretary and Chair of the Trustees to help support our charity’s mission, in particular:

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity. An effective support mechanism is very important to ensure that the Board is able to deliver on its key objectives.
Chaffinch is still a relatively young charity (10 years) with a modest annual turnover. Many will overlook us as being insignificant amongst the larger charities. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera through our work empowering local people. Finding the right volunteer could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.

About Exam Star Learner
Exam Star Learner is an educational charity. We are on a mission to address the lack of access to personalised learning support for underprivileged youth. We aim to deliver personalised and affordable tutorials in Maths, English, Science, and French to underachieving and disadvantaged children and young people. We are dedicated to narrowing the attainment gap, boosting confidence, and raising aspirations of 5-18year-olds. We believe that no child should be left behind in the Southwark community due to financial constraints.
Education is unfair
A growing number of parents and guardians are paying for children as young as four to receive additional tuition. Research show that unlike their well-off peers, many children from lower income families are unable to afford the cost of private tuition which averages £25 per hour in London. This exacerbates education inequalities and contributes to widening the attainment gap.
Exam Star Learner Levelling the Playing Field
Unlike other tuition organisations, Exam Star Learner’s private tuition is genuinely affordable and personalised. Compassion, equality, and independence are among our core values.
We want to inspire our students and help them gain confidence and self-esteem so that they can maximise their potential and achieve greater success in school and in the workplace. We pair children and young people with tutors, and they learn in weekly personalised online tutorials which cater to their specific learning needs. We are currently in partnership with Southwark Council and the DofE.

Expression of Interest to become a World Horse Welfare Trustee
Volunteering for World Horse Welfare comes in many different forms, from lending a hand at one of our farms, to providing administrative support at our Head Office.
Another way individuals can provide voluntary support is by joining our Council of Trustees – an elected group of professionals responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of our charity. Trustees are not expected to take part in the day-to-day running of the organisation, but as a group they are responsible for its general control and are required to act in its best interests. To do this effectively, our Council includes representatives with various areas of expertise and from different backgrounds.
In return for their time and knowledge, Trustees enjoy the opportunity to use and build their skills, influence the direction of the charity, attend a range of special events and become part of a diverse and friendly network.
We are an international charity whose values are grounded in pragmatism and compassion that strives to support and improve the horse-human partnership in all of its guises. Our mission is to work with horses, horse owners, communities, organisations and governments to improve welfare standards and stamp out suffering in the UK and worldwide. To find out more about our work please visit our website
We currently have three vacancies with the following required experience:
1. Strategic marketing and commercial
2. Political/Government
3. Top-level equestrian sport
With the exception of equestrian sport, an experience of equines, whilst a bonus, is not required; you only need an empathy with our aims and an interest in helping to guide our work.
World Horse Welfare embraces a diversity of perspectives to inform our day-to-day work, something which we would also like to see reflected in membership of our Council. We encourage expressions of interest from currently under-represented groups, including people from a broad age range, LGBTQ+, ethnically-diverse communities and disabled people.
Closing date: Friday 26th April 2024.
If you have relevant experience and would like to express an interest in becoming a Trustee, then please email a covering letter and your CV to Fiona Abel.
