Background to the RJ4All Internships
RJ4All was originally set up by volunteers, and it would not exist without their involvement and continued support. Therefore, RJ4All recognises their significant contribution. The vast majority of our interns are young people most of whom are faced with challenges let those be social, financial, migration or refugee status etc.
The RJ4All internships are not paid, but offered on a volunteering basis. This is because we believe that volunteering is an important way to make a positive contribution to our communities and is of particular benefit to young people who are often forgotten or marginalised. Nevertheless, volunteering with RJ4All does not mean standing outside of tube stations wearing bunny suits to raise funds! It involves high quality project activity, engaging with social project and policy issues, and making a real difference where it matters. It also means doing youth-led work, organising events and running user-led training workshops. All out of pocket expenses are paid (see Volunteer Policy for more detail).
Our principles
We are established upon the FREDA underlying values of restorative justice. These stand for Freedom, Respect, Equality, Dignity and Autonomy. Our interns are expected to subscribe to these values as well as that of power sharing.
RJ4ALL has the Quality Mark of the European Commission’s European Solidarity Corps and has adopted European Solidarity Corps Charter. All principles underlying this Volunteer and Intern Policy are fully aligned with the Mission and Principles of the European Solidarity Corps. * Ordinarily board meetings are held 4-6 times per year, for 2-3 hours, on a Thursday evening by Zoom. There are occasional, additional working group meetings held via Zoom 4 or 5 times throughout the year, at times to suit the working group members. Additionally, we typically hold a 1-day board away-day once per year on a Saturday, with travel and accommodation expenses being paid by the charity.
Board members must comply with the charity's policies, including the trustee conflict of interest policy and volunteering agreement.
Application process
Please submit an application form to the email address given in the form and two-page CV by 5pm 31 March 2024.
Short-listed candidates may be invited to an online interview in April (dates to be confirmed). Please advise at the time of making an application of any dates that you would be unavailable.

Kids in Museums is looking for people who are passionate about improving access to culture for children, young people and families to join our Board of Trustees.
As a Trustee, you can help shape our mission to change the museum and heritage sector to make it better for all children, young people and families, particularly those who currently have the least access. You’ll be joining a dedicated Board that brings a wide range of skills and experiences to the charity and have the chance to become involved with exciting Kids in Museums programmes such as the Family Friendly Museum Award and Takeover Day.
Our Trustees have the opportunity to
- Learn new transferable skills such as strategic planning and risk management.
- Join new professional networks in the museum sector and beyond.
- Give something back by improving access to the museum and heritage sector.
All Trustees receive a free package of training and support to help them settle into their roles. All expenses are covered by Kids in Museums.
We are also looking for candidates who have:
- An interest in Kids in Museums’ mission to improve access to museums and heritage for families, children and young people.
- An analytical approach to decision-making.
- An ability to communicate clearly and engage with a range of different stakeholders, staff and volunteers.
- A set of skills to enable them to handle challenging situations. This could include offering advice under time pressure if the charity was facing a reputational challenge. Alternatively, it could be providing support and advice on a staff disciplinary process.
- An ability to give feedback to staff, volunteers and other Trustees kindly and constructively.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- A willingness to participate in the charity’s income generation work. This could include representing Kids in Museums at networking events, making introductions to potential supporters or reviewing funding applications.
If you are passionate about our mission, but don’t feel confident you meet all the points on the person specification, we still encourage you to consider applying. We’re keen to widen that range of people on our Board and your perspective may be one we need.
We welcome applications from everyone, but we are particularly keen to hear from first time Trustees, people who identify as D/deaf and/ or disabled, people from ethnic minority backgrounds and people from working-class backgrounds.
