Often when we think about animal fostering, cats and dogs spring to mind, but have you ever thought about fostering our smaller animals? The RSPCA received more than 5,000 reports last year about rabbits and other small furries relating to neglect or abandonment and rescued an average of 340 small furries a month! To help us with the rehoming of these small animals, we are actively looking to add to our fantastic team of volunteer fosterers.
As a small animal’s fosterer, you would play an essential role in providing the animals in our care with a temporary home whilst they are being rehomed. Like us, even small furries have specific needs and requirements, but rest assured, once we have guided you through the fostering process the animal centre will ensure that you have all the necessary guidance, equipment, food, and veterinary care.
When our small furries are in your foster care you will:
- Provide them with care, safe suitable housing, and space for playtime, as outlined in our policies and guidelines.
- Ensure that they are groomed if appropriate, and fed and watered.
- Provide them with suitable and clean bedding to keep them cosy.
- Give them lots of attention and plenty of cuddles as they are very sociable animals.
- The RSPCA is happy to reimburse you for any pre-agreed expenses incurred through volunteering for us.
What we are looking for in a volunteer Small Animals Fosterer:
- Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience of caring for animals.
- Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
- For their wellbeing, our small furries may need to be fostered in pairs, so please bear this in mind.
- Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they can’t be so, please let us know if this is the case).
What we can offer you as a volunteer Small Animals Fosterer
- You will be making a massive difference to the welfare of the small animals in your care.
- Join a community which will enable you to meet new people and make new friends.
- Learning new skills through our comprehensive induction and fostering training programme.
- Enhance your CV by adding your volunteering experience and newly acquired skills.

The Trustee Role
As a registered charity, our governance and overall leadership rests with our Board of Trustees, who work alongside the Chief Executive and team of Directors. While membership of the Board is voluntary, and without remuneration (reasonable expenses are paid) it is a highly rewarding experience where Trustees contribute actively and take significant responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of our organisation. Those already in this role find it extremely fulfilling and are a vital part of the Marwell family. In addition to the generic responsibilities and skills required of Board members, Marwell requires someone who can demonstrate extensive knowledge of animal welfare. Ideally, they will also have experience of working in a veterinary and/or conservation capacity. This role, like many Board appointments, is non-executive but critical in our overall governance, leadership and understanding of best practice.
Main Duties
• Participate in supporting and regularly reviewing the strategic aims and operational progress of the organisation.
• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the policies and practices of the organisation are in keeping with its overall aims and objectives and that it is carrying out its purpose for the public benefit.
• Ensure, alongside fellow Trustees, that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation, strives to achieve best practice, complies with the charity’s constitution and is accountable.
• Always consider the entire organisation, along with its beneficiaries and always act in the charity’s best interest, whether as a member of the Board or any of its sub-committees. • Reflect the organisation’s vision and principles, strategy, and major policies at all times.
• Always act with reasonable care and skill and manage the charity’s resources responsibly.
• Contribute specific skills, interests and contacts and support the organisation in fundraising activities.
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times, particularly when exercising the functions of the Trustee, or any of its sub-committees or groups.
• Attend Board meetings and sub-committee meetings where appropriate.
• Be an active member of the Trustee body in exercising its responsibilities and functions.
• Maintain good relations with senior managerial employees.
• Take part in training sessions provided for the benefit of Trustees.
• Fulfil such other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Trustee body.
If you believe you meet the requirements of this role, and would like to apply, we would love to hear from you. Please email your CV and accompanying letter outlining why you believe you would be suitable for this role to the Marwell HR Department, by 29 March 2024.

Are you a passionate researcher who wants to make a real difference to the lives of animals and humans? We’re seeking talented experts to join our Scientific Advisory Panel and help us accelerate the development and adoption of non-animal research methods.
To reflect the diversity of technological approaches that replacing animals in science requires, we’re looking to grow our Scientific Advisory Panel and would like you to be part of it.
Our current panel is made up of 32 generous and talented professionals who give their time and expertise to help our mission: ensuring scientists use non-animal approaches in biomedical research and testing.
By volunteering on our panel, you’ll not only be a valued member of our charity, you’ll also have the opportunity to network with other experts, have your say on groundbreaking research, and influence real-world change.
“I feel very honoured to be part of this community. I hope I can support the charity in any way possible as I strongly believe we can at least greatly reduce the number of animals used in scientific research.” Current Scientific Advisory Panel member

- Supporting the grant review process by undertaking peer review of grant applications.
- Advising and supporting the staff team in monitoring funded projects.
- Supporting our strategic goals of funding research, sharing information and creating change.

This experience may relate to basic, translational, applied research, or regulatory testing in any area that is, or would benefit from human-relevant methods. Why join us? We exist to end the abuse of animals raised for food. We work specifically on corporate focused campaigns demanding better welfare practices for chickens. If you’re excited by the prospect of speaking to the public and taking the lead to organise local actions, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.

International Aid for the Protection & Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) was founded in 2009 and aims to provide protection and improve the welfare of animals in need. Our first project is based in Borneo, where we provide a lifeline to thousands of dogs and cats every year in need of veterinary care and support. Our companion animal programmes have since developed in other countries, including Romania and Penang Island, as well as support programmes to help other species.
We are currently searching for volunteers to join our Online Retail Team in our donated goods department.

You will receive support and guidance from the team and Retail Manager so overall enthusiasm to help raise funds for animals in our care is the most important attribute you can bring to this role.
Tasks will include:
- Identifying suitable avenues for donations, whether that be in your local community or reaching out to businesses online. Creating and building relationships with our supporters and donors.

Overview
An exciting opportunity to be an integral part of this compassionate Charity who's aims are to rescue and give a home for life to neglected, abused and unwanted animals whilst promoting compassionate living.
The charity is now entering an exciting time where the support of new trustees is essential to ensure we meet the goals and challenges set out for the future. The appointment of new Trustees will give us the skills and experience necessary to meet these aims.
With the COVID Pandemic and more recently the cost of living crisis the Charity has faced many challenges which we have and continue to overcome. The cost of living crisis presented a drop in donations and with a rise in running costs this has been our biggest challenge in 10 years. The launch of fundraisers and appeals plus the support of the local and national communities and on line supporters we are steadily increasing monthly donations. As a vegan run sanctuary we have a large following from this community which supports the work we do. The charity has also received a match fund donation and its aims are to to reach out to major donors who are inspired by the work we do to invest in the Charity.
The challenges we face are balancing the care and welfare of our animals which is our number one priority, rescuing animals in desperate need so they can live a safe and happy life, plus managing their 62 acre home; whilst having the time to invest in fundraising, project planning and development of major projects.
The Sanctuary is a place of calm and peace, a safe haven for the wildlife, who live alongside our rescued animals. The sanctuary supports its natural habitats with the planting of trees, hedges and rewilding. The environment and natural habitats are as important to protect and preserve as our rescued animals. Our woodland is home to endangered doormice and bats. The Sanctuary is supported by a small team of staff and a bank of over 30 volunteers that are dedicated to our animals, raising funds and the work we do to promote compassion.
Key areas the Charity is looking for are:
Governance and Compliance
Fundraising and Marketing
Financial Planning
Strategy and Project planning

As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to meet our aims and mission
