Job description

Do you have an understanding of or keen interested to support people with their substance use and associated health and social issues? Do you have experience of working with children and young people? All you need is the perfect environment to put your skills to great use. Welcome to Aquarius as a Drug & Alcohol Practitioner.

Right now, one of our partners, Aquarius Action Projects, is looking for a Practitioner to join their Children and Young Peoples’ team in Oxfordshire. You will work alongside the Children Social Care and Early Help teams for Oxfordshire County Council. Aquarius helps people overcome the harm caused by alcohol and drugs, working closely with individuals, family and friends. But it’s only possible with the help of people like you.

Your challenge? To provide advice, assessments, brief and structured interventions and group programmes. As a practitioner in this role you will be the initial contact for referrals into the service, conduct initial assessments via telephone, face to face and offering relevant and appropriate advice, harm minimisation, family interventions risk assessment and management, actioning onward referrals to partner agencies. You will be expected to manage a caseload and your own diary.

An energetic and confident self-starter, ideally, you have a qualification in health/social care, youth and community work (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or above, DipSW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies). Alternatively, we’ll consider candidates with experience of working in the substance misuse field or with children and young people with a commitment to complete NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care. As well as knowledge of alcohol/drug and health related issues, you're used to liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies and health professionals and comfortable engaging with clients in a variety of service delivery settings. You will also have the ability to collaborate and work professionally with service users, families and external agencies to provide a service which maximises outcomes for service users. What’s more, you have a flexible approach, a commitment to the principles of confidentiality and excellent record keeping and Microsoft Office.

The successful candidate will have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This role is available as a full-time role at 37 hours a week.  The salary can be negotiable for the right candidate. 

We are looking for Practitioners who would be wiling to work in Didcot, Abingdon, Oxford City or Banbury.

The salary for this post is £20,015 pa with progression to £23,420.
