The purpose of this role is to engage, cultivate and secure support from major gifts, grants, legacies and partnerships across Essex and Hertfordshire which will help shape, deliver and protect our vital life-changing service for the future. In particular it will focus on enabling the vision of EHAAT’s innovative Centre for Excellence.

This is an exciting time at EHAAT. Over the past two years, a strategy has been devised and initiated to develop major giving as a new stream of funding for the charity. As we enter the next phase of the strategy, this role presents a unique opportunity to build on the initial success of this programme and shape its future, alongside a committed and growing Development Board and a dedicated team, and with the support of the trustees and executive team. At the same time, we are bringing together for the first time other important areas of our fundraising, including legacies, trusts and foundations, and corporate partnership under the leadership of the Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships to build a strong and focused team delivering across philanthropic giving for the charity.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with senior level prospects and givers in a charitable context, as well as experience across other areas including legacies, trusts and foundations and corporate fundraising. A genuine team player, they will demonstrate strategic thinking, creativity and leadership, to inspire and motivate key individuals and to build strong, long-lasting relationships with the charity. In addition, they will have management experience to unite, develop and lead the team to achieve challenging targets and deliver long term philanthropic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the strategy to build philanthropic giving at EHAAT in consultation with the CEO, Executive Team, Trustees and Development Board, to support the charity’s objectives and long term aims.
• Deliver a fundraising plan across the Philanthropy & Partnerships team, including major giving, legacies, trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships, to achieve agreed strategic objectives.
• Provide excellent executive support and guidance to the Development Board and the Chair, and take a leading role in building the Board further by identifying and recruiting to its membership and the wider pool of Ambassadors.
• Ensure philanthropic giving to the charity is strengthened through in-depth research, compelling proposals, wellcrafted approaches for gifts and excellent stewardship.
• Deliver regular activity and income reports and participate in the budgeting and forecasting of income in this area.
• Lead and support the Philanthropy & Partnerships team, enabling team members to fulfil their potential and meet agreed objectives through collaborative and shared working.
• Work across the charity to collaboratively create exciting and impactful propositions for funding, impact reports, and stewardship opportunities, in particular relating to the Centre for Excellence.
• Implement and regularly review an effective gift policy and undertake all necessary due diligence prior to accepting gifts, ensuring donations and grants are correctly allocated and used, and conditions met.
• Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of EHAAT's current work and future strategic plans.
• Identify potential relationships and opportunities across the fundraising team, recognising where there is overlap.
• Act as a source of expertise in major gift fundraising for the charity, advising trustees, development board and executive team on managing key philanthropic relationships and partnerships.

Responsibilities include:

Leadership, Strategy and Governance

• Be an active member of the Made in Hackney Senior Leadership Team, working together to galvanise the organisation behind the strategic plan

• Contribute to strategic discussions on the future path of the organisation; providing oversight on key initiatives as required as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

• Proactively participate in and/or lead team meetings to ensure effective communication and mutual support

• Provide lead support to the Board of Trustees, assisting the Chair with trustee meetings, keeping the Charity Commission website updated, and assisting with trustee recruitment, induction and training, board reviews etc;

• Act as the lead staff team representative on the Resource & Remuneration board sub-committee

HR & Training 

• Lead the organisation’s HR function ensuring  employment practice is legally compliant and fair, with a focus on being a fully inclusive employer;

• Keep abreast of the latest guidance in employment law and HR legislation, acting as the lead liaison with Croner external HR support;

• Act as MIH’s Lead for:
  Safeguarding - conducting regular reviews of safeguarding policy,  procedures and regular training for staff, trustees and volunteers and completing; 
  Data Protection - ensuring Data Protection Policy review and organisation-wide compliance and responding to any data incidents or breaches;
  Training - overseeing staff/volunteer/trustee training and lead on implementing staff wellbeing initiatives eg. socials, team building days etc;

• Oversee monthly staff salary payment and coordinate with external payroll provider; 

• Responsible for regular organisation-wide policy, procedure and risk assessment reviews

• Oversee any organisational structure reviews and ensure a system is in place for staff to receive regular and motivational feedback, and feel supported and able to perform their role;

Salesforce Admin
To be the main point of contact for core users' technical support and training needs, and to develop the Salesforce platform to improve organisational efficiency, relationship management and income generation. Intensive training will be provided to support this role.

• Act as the system administrator and manage admin functions including assigning new users, creating reports, dashboards, surveys, application forms etc;

• Onboard and train new users, and grow the level of expertise among the core team;

• Implement custom features when new work streams/programmes are set up and as organisational needs grow;

• Oversee support partnerships with external technical support and training providers.

• Support the Head of Fundraising & Communications and Community Programmes Manager with the creation of reports and dashboards in salesforce to present programme outcomes for funder and trustee reports and the MIH Annual Report;

Venue Management 
MIH has a part-time Venue Manager who is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the ‘Liberty Hall’ kitchen venue. The Head of Operations  will oversee them and support key areas of venue management in the following ways:

• Manage relationship with venue partner ‘Clapton Commons’ to ensure key services of venue are running smoothly and represent MIH in oversight committee meetings; 

• Ensure venue and office equipment is safe to use and repaired/replaced/PAT tested on time;

• Ensure the venue meets the latest Health & Safety requirements, Fire Safety Standards and is fully accessible;

• Support acquisition of new kitchen equipment when required, such as ovens, hobs etc either from a donated source or purchased from a supplier;

Finance

• Organise quarterly budget meetings between the core delivery team and Finance Manager to review budget and expenditure; 

• Ensure the finance team understands the requirements and deadlines of board meetings and provide reminders to them for preparing the required financial reporting.

An exciting opportunity to work on WCRF International’s Global Cancer Update Programme 
 

World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRFI) leads and unifies a network of cancer prevention charities based in Europe and the Americas. Our shared vision is a world where no one develops a preventable cancer.

WCRFI is responsible for the Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global) which is our global cancer prevention and survival programme focussing on the links between diet, nutrition, physical activity and cancer. Forming the cornerstone of all our work, the project is the only authoritative scientific resource of its kind in the world.

We are seeking a Head of Research Interpretation who will be responsible for managing the delivery of CUP Global. You will chair the CUP Global Secretariat and also provide support to the Assistant Director of Research and Policy and the Director of Research, Policy and Innovation in the oversight and strategic direction of the programme of work. You will also contribute to other projects such as ensuring that the WCRF network has the latest global cancer statistics, including new estimates of the preventability of cancer. 

You will be educated to PhD level, with ideally at least 2 years postdoctoral experience in a research environment, in a relevant area (e.g. nutrition, cancer, epidemiology, public health). You will have a good understanding of public health and epidemiology, nutrition and/or cancer and have experience of conducting and/or interpreting systematic reviews. You will have strong people management skills, with direct line management experience.

Job Description

Reporting to the CEO, the job holder will work closely with the CEO, the executive team and the board on a variety of tasks to help TOTSCo achieve maturity in its governance, decision making and strategy and more generally as an organisation. Tasks include:

ROLE PURPOSE

As our Executive Assistant (Maternity Cover, 0.8 FTE, Fixed term for 12 months), you will play a crucial role in developing and supporting our charity and strengthening our administration and governance. You will be providing flexible assistance primarily to our CEO, in the planning and delivery of their workload. • Arrange meetings and itineraries and coordinate travel as required.
• Stakeholder management support: utilising CRM to maintain updated databases for organisational contacts; support with the completion of contracts and registering purchase orders with suppliers,where the CEO is the lead contact.

Meeting management

• Plan and coordinate relevant meetings to ensure they are purposeful and relevant. These will include Board meetings, Senior Leadership Team Meetings, Leadership Group meetings and any other general committee meetings.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for all meetings, arranging suitable meeting premises or software, preparing and circulating agendas and meeting papers in consultation with the relevant participants (e.g. Chair of the Board, CEO and Senior Leadership Team).
• Coordinate catering requirements and liaise with the finance team to make purchases.
• Take high-quality and accurate meeting minutes and circulate them for appropriate approval and sign-off.
• Ensure prompt follow-up with agreed action points and follow through with ongoing delivery of commitments.

Governance support

• Provide administrative support where applicable to meet the charity’s requirements with
• Companies House and the Charity Commission.
• Support with Trustee recruitment, induction and training.
• Support the charity’s continuous improvement and compliance using tools such as the Governance
• Code.

Senior Leadership Team coordination

• Support with coordinating multi-stakeholder meetings, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support members of the Senior Leadership Team or their guests with the use of our core systems and software (Google Workspace, Google Meet, Slack, Mural, Zoom).
• Process any travel expenses for the Senior Leadership Team.
• Manage charity records: provide historical reference by supporting procedures for the retention and disposal of records.
• Welcome guests and provide tours of facilities or support guests to use online meeting software where required.

Other duties

• Such other duties as may be reasonably prescribed by the organisation, appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of this post.
• Provide cover for other team members as necessary to ensure seamless operations and support across the organisation.
• Work to agreed charity and personal targets.
• Attend regular team meetings with Student Minds colleagues.

About the Foundation:

The Avicenna Foundation was set up in 2023 to to support outstanding young British Muslims by providing them with scholarships for their undergraduate degree. The scholarships are mainly focused on awarding scholarships in the Social Sciences and Humanities for those interested in politics, policy-making and becoming agents of positive change.

Alongside the scholarship, the Avicenna Foundation runs a development programme for the scholars to expand their skills and abilities in various areas like leadership, communication and collaboration.

The Foundation has developed immensely in the first year with the launch of the charity; onboarding of it’s first cohort of 30 scholars and the development of a leadership programme.  It now needs propelling into the next stage as the charity develops to ensure a robust charity structure and programme in place.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations:

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the charity, and manage changes required within programmes and activities as a result of changing external landscapes or contexts.

- Implement strategies for advertising the scholarships, receiving and reviewing applications, shortlisting candidates, conducting interviews, and making final selection decisions. Some of these things are already in place and may need reviewing and enhancing.

- Work with the Scholar Development Coordinator to oversee the leadership development programme, provide guidance and help the programme to grow.

- Maintain regular communication with the scholars, their progress, and address any issues or concerns that may arise.

- Ensure programme objectives and outcomes align with the overall strategy and aims of the Foundation, and are realistic and achievable within timeframes and budgets.

- Organise any events, programmes necessary to the scholars.

- Use data to track progress and drive improvement; proactively manage risks; and ensure effective use of the Foundation’s resources and budgets allocated to you.

Governance:

- Provide leadership and guidance to achieve consistency of governance across all of the Foundation’s activities, from development, delivery, measurement and evaluation and reporting perspectives.

- Regular communication and updates to the board, prepare board papers and contribute to Trustee meetings as required.

- Create, maintain and ensure continued adoption of governance frameworks, policies and templates.

- Ensure implementation and maintenance of risk registers for the charity and across all programmes.

- Manage finances, budgeting, reporting, and record-keeping

- Prepare the Foundation’s annual report.

External Engagement

- Lead on strategic communications by developing and implementing an integrated public affairs and communication plan that are consistent with the goals and values of the Foundation.

- Building and cultivating exceptional diverse reciprocal partnerships across a wide range of stakeholder groups, grounded in delivering impact through collaboration.

- Work with educational partners to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the scholarship programme

-  Leverage messaging and networks to positively impact the growth and reputation of the Foundation.

- Strengthen our brand reputation to maximise our impact and reach.

- Help identify, create and develop meaningful opportunities for the young people the Foundation works with.

- Establish an alumni network and support continuous professional development for alumni.

- Produce briefings and critical information for internal and external stakeholders, and review reports, submissions, and letters where appropriate.

- Previous work within areas of young people, local communities, or further education is a plus.

A small charity that supports the children’s and neonatal intensive care units at St Mary’s & Queen Charlotte's Hospital by helping patients and their families, and by enabling our dedicated team of nurses and doctors to treat hundreds of babies and children in intensive care.

We go above and beyond what the NHS can't afford purchasing vital state of the art equipment, providing training for health professionals, funding a programme of ground-breaking research into life-threatening diseases and supporting families through one of the most difficult times in their life with one-to-one support, advice, counselling, accommodation for parents.
