Job description

To help take Wings for Life (WfL) to the next level, we are looking for a stand-out candidate to develop, manage and deliver our existing WfL and third-party events, maximising fundraising and awareness for the charity. The Event Manager will also be expected to take a creative and entrepreneurial approach to expanding the event portfolio, driving the potential of our target areas of Formula One, Cycling and E-Sports.

Based in the heart of Covent Garden, in Red Bull UK's vibrant headquarters, WfL in the UK are a small team of committed fundraisers who collectively raise circa £2million a year to fund research and clinical trials to find a cure for spinal cord injury. As Red Bull cover all of our costs, 100% of every penny we raise goes directly to our research portfolio. We are one of four global offices, with other WfL teams being based in Austria, the US and Germany. Collectively, we are making a difference: since WfL was first founded, a number of vital breakthroughs have been made and there is now a very real prospect that spinal cord injury could be cured in a generation.

Due to our flat structure, the role is extremely autonomous and includes senior touchpoints with our Board of Trustees, senior supporters and Ambassadors. We are seeking a confident individual, with bags of energy and enthusiasm, to join our team and really own this role and make it their own...

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (EVENTS & GAMING)

  • To lead, develop and own the strategy and business development plan for events year-round
  • To develop, manage and deliver:
    1. Major fundraising events, ensuring a premium and unique supporter experience, including all relevant H&S considerations/risk assessments:
      1. The Cord Club (existing gala event)
      2. The Clay Day (existing clay pigeon shoot)
      3. Evening With… (F1 event in development)
      4. Ride The Spine (cycling event in development)
    2. Third party events, joint ventures and Red Bull regional, national & global events where Wings for Life are the benefitting charity, ensuring excellent planning, on-the-day delivery and post-event follow up:
      1. Wings for Life World Run
      2. Red Bull Soapbox (bi-annual)
      3. Wings for Life Christmas Quiz (Red Bull UK’s staff Christmas party)
      4. Bonhams F1 auctions (ad hoc)
      5. Other F1 opportunities
    3. E-Sports / gaming campaigns (in development – working with third parties)
  • To meet ambitious income targets and achieve significant growth
  • To work closely with the CEO, Partnerships Manager and Philanthropy Manager, supporting their cultivation strategy for each event. Event Management of supporter and cultivation events, taking on the event detail management and leaving them to focus on the relationship development.
  • Work collaboratively with Partnerships Manager to secure, negotiate and manage event partners and sponsors, including gift in kind partners.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting the Fundraising Specialist with any event logistical elements of high-profile individual fundraising challenges
  • Supporting the Fundraising Specialist by providing high quality and engaging content for Wings for Life’s social media channels
  • Ensuring all events data is saved on our CRM database, ensuring a transparent single supporter view

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working across a wide variety of events, including, but not limited to, fundraising events
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Success and evidence of developing and implementing new ideas to maximize potential
  • Confident communicator
  • Creative and innovative thinker, willingness to ‘do things differently’
  • Energy, enthusiasm and passion for what you do
  • Experience in developing communication and marketing plans for events
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environment

  • Proactive about chasing new opportunities
  • Driven by achieving financial targets & results
  • Able to work as a strong team player who’s flexible to support the team
