BACKGROUND
Magic Breakfast is a registered charity providing healthy breakfasts to children and young people in the UK who arrive at school too hungry to learn, and expert support to their schools. Over 200,000 children and young people are on roll at Primary, Secondary, ASL / Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units that the charity works with, in disadvantaged areas of Scotland and England. Providing breakfast ensures that children start their school day with the energy and nutrition they need to be able to make the most of their morning lessons. Magic Breakfast also undertakes research, and campaigns for long-term solutions to end hunger as a barrier to learning.

JOB PURPOSE
Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. The Campaigns Team develops strategy, creates plans and manages campaigns on issues and policy to influence key stakeholders and build public support to create systemic change and eliminate child hunger for good.
We are looking for a Campaigns Officer to join our small team to support the Campaigns Manager design, deliver and evaluate integrated and impactful campaigns in support of Magic Breakfast’s policy and advocacy objectives, including the designing, resourcing and creation of meaningful actions to communicate key messages to decision-makers, the media, supporters and the public.
You will be joining our campaigning work at a crucial point as we aim to grow our campaigner base, mobilise more people and carry out strategic campaigns within the context of an approaching general election and beyond with the new government. The role will work closely with colleagues across the Department and organisation to increase the impact of our advocacy messages and campaigns.

The Policy and Practice Officer will play a pivotal role in taking our young carers policy and practice work to the next level as part of our efforts to ensure a fair future for all young carers and young adult carers. As well as supporting our growing policy work in this area, you will act as the coordinator for the Young Carers Alliance andthe first point of contact for the Young Carers Covenant. You will engage with a wide range of people including civil servants, charity partners, Members of Parliament, localcarer organisations, local authorities and health representatives, young carers and senior internal colleagues. You will ensure young carers’ voices are heard, both through public campaigning and private influencing, and become an expert in the key issues facing young carers, young adult carers and the local carer organisations that support them.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Campaign project management:

Plan, manage and deliver innovative and impactful supporter campaigns across a range of channels.

Supporter Care:

You will build strategic relationships with a variety of stakeholders to advance the solutions needed to address poverty in later life, using your knowledge of the political landscape in Scotland and passion for our cause.

The Campaigns Director will work to ensure that we meet our UK campaign goals for Marine Protected Areas, Sustainable Fisheries, and Offshore Oil and Gas. The position will be based in Oceana’s office in Paddington, London. Occasional travel will be required to meet team members and stakeholders in geographically diverse locations.
Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will inspire and help to equip your colleagues with the tools, knowledge, and approach to be effective changemakers. You will lead the Campaigns team (4 direct and 1 indirect reports working across campaigns, policy, research and public affairs) to ensure that we deliver and impactful political change campaigns.
Eligible candidates should be strategic and proactive, with experience of leading teams to deliver campaign goals. They should be confident to coordinate the annual strategic planning cycles, comfortable to oversee multiple projects, and enthusiastic in response to the changing demands of leading in a small team.
Role Overview
Ø Work as part of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to decision making and overall progress towards organisational goals.
Ø Help to lead the London office providing direction and guidance and promoting a positive working culture with other members of the team.
Ø Manage and support the campaigns team of 5, helping to build, coach and lead a high-performing team.
Ø Oversee all projects across the campaigns team including (but not limited to) campaign actions, research, consultation responses, and potential legal challenges. Monitor progress against plans and ensure effective delivery of campaign objectives.
Ø Work closely with the Executive Director, Leadership Team and global team members on the strategic development and innovation of campaigns, reviewing and setting annual plans and longer term goals.
Ø Provide strategic insight on how to leverage opportunities for the greatest impact, particularly set against political and news cycles.
Ø Develop and communicate a compelling campaign vision and strategy to Oceana staff, supporters, donors, and allies.
Ø Ensure that Oceana staff at any level of the organization, have a clear understanding of our campaign strategy and the theory of change behind it.
Ø Oversee funder and supporter reporting goals in a timely and accurate way.
Ø Draft periodic reporting documents to update Oceana’s board about UK campaign goals and milestones.
Ø Regularly review the ocean conservation space, threats and opportunities coming from other NGOs, to ensure Oceana UK continually strengthens our sector position, media voice, and impact.
Ø Understand the latest digital campaigning tools and work closely with the communications director and team to drive supporter engagement and action.
Ø Grow a broad network of allies, experts, and high-level contacts.
Ø Represent the organization publicly, including through media interviews, speaking events, and writing.
Ø Ensure a strong commitment to the organisation's values and vision, as set out by Oceana globally.
Ø Work closely with communications team colleagues to ensure our campaigning priorities are effectively reflected as part of our wider offer to supporters.
Ø Build Oceana UK’s supporter base through effective campaigns.
Ø Oversee management of campaign and policy budget lines, including forecasting and annual budget setting.
This role will be based in our Paddington, London office three days per week (Tues-Thurs) with two days home working (Mon and Fri). It reports to the Executive Director.
Candidate Requirements
Education and work experience:
Ø At least 7 years of professional experience in campaigning, ideally in oceans or the environment.
Ø Experience operating as part of a Leadership Team in a similar organisation.
Ø Experience line managing multiple reports.
Ø Experience leading and developing campaign strategic plans and annual detailed plans and budgets.
Ø Experience working closely and collaboratively with policy and communications colleagues.
Ø Experience lobbying and negotiating with civil servants in government on policy matters.
Ø Experience commissioning, managing and analysing complex research projects and ensuring their application to policy work and/or campaign delivery.
Skills and knowledge:
Ø Familiarity with fisheries or marine and environmental regulations, legislation and policies in the UK, as well as with the key institutions and decision-making processes.
Ø Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
Ø Strong project management skills, with demonstrable experience managing multiple workstreams effectively.
Ø Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

About the role
The Programme Officer is a new role at Tudor Trust and offers an exciting opportunity to lead transformative initiatives that amplify the voices of under-resourced communities and contribute to systemic change. By the end of 2024, we expect to have three Programme Officers in place.
As a Programme Officer, you will play a pivotal role in reshaping Tudor’s grant-making approach, fostering collaborative relationships with grantees and stakeholders, and contributing to strategic thinking to drive long-term racial, social, and economic change.
The Programme Officers together will oversee a different approach to distributing our funding, which could range from small start-up grants, long term multi-year funding, through to a big bet approach with a focus on larger scale collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Grant-making Rebuild
- Take a proactive role in rebuilding Tudor’s grant-making strategy, identifying opportunities to develop alternative networks and power-building initiatives within disproportionately disadvantaged communities impacted by discrimination.
- Hold a grant-making portfolio and work closely with grantees to develop comprehensive change strategies that foster broader societal impact.
- Build genuine and respectful relationships with organisations and leaders in the field, actively identifying potential funding relationships and opportunities for collaboration.
- Apply a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) lens to guide funding decisions towards under-resourced groups and leaders, taking accountability for equitable decision-making.
- Building careful dialogue between Tudor’s staff, trustees and advisors to ensure all decisions are understood.
- Effectively manage budgets, ensuring funds are allocated with diligence and accuracy.
Collaboration, Listening and Dialogue
- Maintain a curious and open mindset towards potential grantees, actively listening to their perspectives and how they want to describe themselves. Continue this listening approach throughout the relationship with all grantees and support Tudor in developing an approach to ongoing dialogue that is based on learning together.
- Proactively network grantees with each other and wider stakeholders, creating spaces for meaningful dialogue through workshops and other meeting platforms.
- Collaborate with Tudor colleagues and stakeholders to develop a grant-making approach rooted in inquiry and learning, aimed at achieving sustainable racial, social, and economic change.
Learning and Strategic Thinking
- Bring insights from grant-making experiences back to Tudor, contributing to challenging and evolving strategic thinking within the organisation.
- Identify and articulate key themes emerging from grant-making activities, providing valuable insights into how social change is being achieved.
- Contribute to developing frameworks, using different methods, on how to best capture the learnings, social change and wider impacts of grantees activities.
- Undertake research and commission studies on issues related to racial, economic, and social justice, contributing to Tudor’s deeper understanding of the wider landscape and systemic challenges.

Experience and Knowledge
Previous experience in grant making is not essential. We will collaborate with you to define the responsibilities of the role, taking an iterative and reflective approach and we’ll keep reviewing and improving it together.
