About the role
The Centre for Ageing Better launched the first ever campaign focusing on ageism in January 2024.
Ageism is the most widespread form of discrimination in the UK. And it will impact us all at some point, particularly as we get older. Ageism affects how society sees older people: they’re often reduced to offensive stereotypes, patronised, or treated as a burden. And it even affects how we see ourselves. As the years progress, we start to believe what we read, see and hear, and come to think that we’re ‘past it’.
The Head of Ageism Campaign plays a key role in a small team responsible for planning and delivering a nationwide public-facing campaign to bring an end to ageism in England. The public-facing campaign is one strand of a wider ‘age-friendly’ social movement aimed to make people think, feel and act differently about ageing, which will work on a number of levels and with a range of different audiences.
Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Policy and with an expert external consultant, this role is responsible for planning, delivering, measuring and iterating campaign activities that lead to measurable changes in attitudes and behaviour amongst the public.
The campaign will position Ageing Better as a thought leader and expert on ageism in England and mobilise the public and stakeholders around key activity and campaign moments, working at a national, regional and local level.
The postholder will jointly manage a creative agency to deliver phase two of our mass marketing campaign, ‘always on’ activity, and a moment of collective action once a year for warm audiences and ambassadors for the campaign.
About you
You are a passionate and committed campaigner, determined to create societal change.
You will have excellent experience in campaigning techniques and communications, with first-class writing skills. You will understand how to influence the public and move people along a behaviour/attitude change journey.
You will be comfortable working across the full marcomms mix and using different channels and platforms to reach audiences.
You will have great project management skills and will love keeping a project on track.
About us
The Centre for Ageing Better is a charitable foundation funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and part of the government’s What Works Network
Everyone has the right to a good life as they get older and our whole society benefits when people are able to age well. But far too many people face huge barriers, and as a result are living in bad housing, dealing with poverty and poor health and made to feel invisible in their communities and society.
The Centre for Ageing Better is pioneering ways to make ageing better a reality for everyone. Its key areas of work include challenging ageism and building a nationwide Age-friendly Movement, creating Age-friendly Employment and Age-friendly Homes.
We are striving to create an organisation that reflects our society and the communities we serve. A workplace where everyone feels empowered and where diversity of background and thought is celebrated. We know there is more work to be done and are committed to continuing to improve our practice around Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
We very much welcome applications from minority groups and those underrepresented in our workforce. This especially includes people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, LGBT+ people, and Disabled people.
We are a Positive Action employer, therefore in recruitment where two candidates are ‘as qualified as’ each other, we will favour a candidate from any group identified as currently underrepresented in our team based on protected characteristics as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
The closing date for this role is 11:59pm on 3rd May, with in- person interviews to take place during week commencing 13th May

As the Digital Campaign Manager you will use your skills to build and lead projects and creative digital-first campaigns to support Syria’s heroic civil society. You will be responsible for delivering campaigns that advance The Syria Campaign’s goals and mission, working with allies and partners to elevate their voices and demands to a global audience. You will get to work with our incredible supporters and encourage others to act by employing the full suite of digital campaigning tactics to bring about real change.
You will be responsible for creating impactful online campaign actions from petitions to “email your MP” moments, running an email programme to engage our large online supporter base (from idea generation to writing, delivery and analysis), producing creative social media campaigns, and responding to real world events. You will reach new supporters and key audiences through growth-oriented digital campaigns.
This is a full-time position that reports to the Campaign Director. The job is remote and can be done anywhere from European or Middle Eastern time zones.
The Syria Campaign
The Syria Campaign is a small, fast moving, and powerful human rights organisation that is building new ways for digital and creative communications to have impact. We work to support Syria’s heroes in the struggle for freedom and democracy, partnering with civil society actors inside and outside the country. We’ve moved beyond the limitations of an “online movement builder” or traditional NGO, fusing the best elements of think tanks, creative agencies, and digital mobilisation to shift the narrative on Syria.
Thirteen years since the Syrian people took to the streets to demand freedom and democracy, there are still millions of civilians at risk of military attack, over 100,000 people remain illegally detained and disappeared, and there has been nearly no accountability for the victims and survivors of war crimes. The Syria Campaign works to keep Syria in the international spotlight to increase the cost of attacks on civilians, help build the power of civil society, advocate for a vision of real peace and justice, and build international solidarity with the Syrian people.
We’ve raised the profile of Syrian groups such as the White Helmets rescue workers, helping secure them millions of dollars to continue their life-saving work and making them famous around the world. We’ve supported the Families for Freedom, a women-led movement of the families of the disappeared in Syria, to ensure their demands are heard. We work with dozens of partners across Syria who trust us deeply. Syria is full of heroes and we’re privileged enough to work with them. You can read about some of what we’ve done here, here and here.
After 13 years of conflict and crisis in Syria, we have to fight hard to make sure the issues that matter to us and our partners get the focus and support they need. We refuse to let Syria disappear from the attention of the world, and we will work until we see justice served. The Digital Campaign Manager will play a key role as The Syria Campaign develops new strategies and approaches to achieve our goals.
What you’ll be responsible for
Developing and leading far-reaching digital campaigns with our Syrian partners to make their demands heard on the international stage, that capitalise on reactive campaign moments. You will be campaigning for freedom and justice for Syria’s disappeared, for the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers from the bombs, and for support for educators, media activists and other heroic civil society actors on the ground in Syria.
Creating high-quality digital campaign content. You will work closely with our small and talented campaign team to write amazing copy across a range of campaign materials, including through supporter emails, advocacy briefs, blogs, and microsites. You will lead on digital advocacy opportunities to mobilise our supporters to take action in solidarity with the demands of our Syrian partners through petitions, fundraisers and other actions. Working closely with the media team you will push forwards creative visuals for social media including graphics, videos and commentary, including commissioning and managing creatives.
Leading our campaign email programme. You will manage our supporter email programme in collaboration with designers and developers. This includes devising and drafting regular multilingual campaign emails to keep our large supporter base engaged, testing out best practices to grow and maintain those who support us, and analysing our success. You will also build action pages, run fundraisers for our Syrian partners, and manage Facebook ads.
Organising and coordinating events and actions, amplified online. You will manage events and actions that influence politicians and decision makers to meet the demands of our Syrian civil society partners – making sure they have maximum impact and reach our global audience.

Based in Scotland and with a good understanding of the Scottish movement ecology, you will be able to map and bring together groups, organisations, stakeholder and constituents to campaign on fossil fuels. You will strengthen partnerships and scope new allies whilst helping to drive forward campaigning interventions and mobilising groups around key moments throughout 2024 and beyond. You will work closely with key campaigning organisations in Scotland and internally with Uplifts Campaigns and Movement Building team to support network building activities across the UK.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include:
- Building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, groups and organisations, across Scotland, and the rest of the UK, including with key allies campaigning to end oil and gas extraction.
- Coordinate network building and coalition activities to help strengthen the network of groups organising around a phase out of fossil fuels in the UK.
- Provide campaigning support and advice to groups wanting to take action on north sea oil and gas expansion and a just transition.
- Develop campaign resources and network communications in collaboration with key partners and networks.
- Help design and deliver mobilisations and actions across Scotland and support the execution of campaign strategies and interventions in collaboration with partners.
- Be the first point of contact for groups and organisations in Scotland - holding the central coordination function for Uplift.
- Facilitate spaces for groups to come together and coordinate timely and effective communications with groups.
- Work with the Campaigns and Movement Building team to help strengthen the networks of groups taking action on fossil fuel campaigns across the UK - particularly during nationwide mobilisations or campaign moments.
- Be an active member of the Campaigns and Movement building team - participating in and helping to shape campaign and network strategies whilst contributing to a healthy team and organisational culture.
- Represent Uplift externally at events, coalition meetings and network gatherings. Carry out media spokesperson activities where appropriate.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in a similar or related role.
- Be based in Scotland and have a good working knowledge of the wider movement ecology in Scotland.
- A track record of guiding and supporting effective campaigning coalitions.
- A good understanding of campaign strategy and an ability to know when to apply a range of tactics based on target, audience and the campaign cycle.
- Previous experience of movement building, including an understanding of the principles of mobilising and organising and an appreciation of the role different actors (the grassroots, NGOs, unions etc) play in social change.
- A strong commitment to Uplift’s mission and core values of equity and climate justice.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build strong, trusting relationships with a variety of groups and organisations, as well as with colleagues (through written communications, online calls and in-person gatherings).
- Highly motivated, collaborative and organised - able to coordinate fast paced campaigns across multiple networks.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the core of Uplift’s values and therefore we strongly encourage applications from candidates whose backgrounds or accessibility/support needs mean they have been traditionally under-represented in the climate and environment sector. If you are unsure if you meet the requirements or feel you will be disadvantaged by the process then please email us (see contact details in the attached Job Description) so we can see how we might provide support.
We can only consider candidates who are already eligible to work in the UK.
For the application please submit a CV (2 pages) and cover letter (2 pages). Please note that we can only accept applications with both a CV and a cover letter. Please use the cover letter to say why you want to work for Uplift and how you could use your experience to meet the responsibilities of the role. Should you have any specific questions you wish to discuss about your application then send us an email (see contact details in the attached Job Description).
Successful applicants may be asked to complete a short exercise. Following the completion of the exercise, a smaller group of applicants will be invited for an interview. We are shortlisting applicants and inviting them to an interview after 27th May 2024.

You might be one of those people.
One in four people in the UK now live with a long-term health condition, so the chances are you at least know someone whose quality of life could be improved through better care outside of hospital.
We are working tirelessly to deliver change – and now we need your help to make it happen.
About the role:
In this role, you will plan and manage the coordination, delivery, quality control and evaluation of assigned communication campaigns (initially focusing on our rehabilitation and exercise workstreams) and other communications projects as required.

With extensive experience of successfully managing a significant health or social care campaign or similar type of experience, you will have in-depth knowledge of how to use digital and non-digital campaigns to influence behaviour and effect policy changes.
You will be able to work collaboratively across the organisation, offering support to colleagues and the accountable Assistant Director to enable them to use qualitative and quantitative data to gain insight into the audience.

Interested in an exciting role which helps protect forests, the climate and human rights? This may be the job for you.
Earthsight is looking for an experienced campaigner to lead our policy and comms work delivering impactful analyses and advocacy on the impacts of Western consumption on the world’s forests, native biomes and local communities.
Earthsight is a non-profit organisation dedicated to researching and investigating environmental and social crime and injustice. We use cutting-edge investigative methods to uncover and expose wrongdoing. Since emerging as a fully-fledged organisation in 2016, our reports have garnered headlines, won awards and triggered major changes by governments and corporations.
We seek to create positive change by influencing government policy, uncovering greenwash and raising awareness among key constituencies about the impacts of global supply chains on the world’s forests and forest communities.
Most global deforestation is driven by industrial production of a handful of major commodities, including beef, soy, palm oil and wood. A large chunk of this production is to meet demand in Western consumer markets. Over the past few years, Earthsight has played a key role in highlighting the complicity of corporations and consumers in the EU, UK and US in the destruction of forests overseas, as well as the abuses of local people which accompany that destruction. As part of a global coalition, we have succeeded in getting laws passed or under development in all those jurisdictions which aim to clean up these supply chains. Now we need to ensure those laws are effectively enforced.
This role will be key to that. As part of a small team, you will help design and coordinate implementation of our policy strategy and outputs. You will represent the organisation in meetings with policymakers, government authorities and civil society, as well as help draft and disseminate policy briefings and other advocacy material. You will also oversee our comms work.
The position is offered as a full-time permanent contract. The successful candidate would preferably be based in the UK and able to come into our office in London regularly. Earthsight is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to ensuring careers in the charity sector are open to all. We value difference and believe it enhances our capabilities. We therefore particularly encourage applications from people from a range of different backgrounds.

- Build and maintain relationships with key policy stakeholders in Europe and the UK, including policymakers, civil servants, civil society, enforcement authorities
