BACKGROUND
Magic Breakfast is a registered charity providing healthy breakfasts to children and young people in the UK who arrive at school too hungry to learn, and expert support to their schools. Over 200,000 children and young people are on roll at Primary, Secondary, ASL / Special Educational Needs Schools and Pupil Referral Units that the charity works with, in disadvantaged areas of Scotland and England. Providing breakfast ensures that children start their school day with the energy and nutrition they need to be able to make the most of their morning lessons. Magic Breakfast also undertakes research, and campaigns for long-term solutions to end hunger as a barrier to learning.

JOB PURPOSE
Magic Breakfast’s mission is to end child morning hunger in the UK now and for good. The Campaigns Team develops strategy, creates plans and manages campaigns on issues and policy to influence key stakeholders and build public support to create systemic change and eliminate child hunger for good.
We are looking for a Campaigns Officer to join our small team to support the Campaigns Manager design, deliver and evaluate integrated and impactful campaigns in support of Magic Breakfast’s policy and advocacy objectives, including the designing, resourcing and creation of meaningful actions to communicate key messages to decision-makers, the media, supporters and the public.
You will be joining our campaigning work at a crucial point as we aim to grow our campaigner base, mobilise more people and carry out strategic campaigns within the context of an approaching general election and beyond with the new government. The role will work closely with colleagues across the Department and organisation to increase the impact of our advocacy messages and campaigns.

About the role
As News and Media Manager, you will lead a hard-working and experienced team of media experts to bring to life Crisis’ work, demonstrate the solutions needed to tackle homelessness and inspire the public and politicians to join our mission to end it for good. You will oversee the development and delivery of high-profile media and communications campaigns, including our annual Christmas appeal, helping to build our brand. This is a fixed term role covering a secondment in the team, and with an upcoming general election, this is an exciting time take up the role for the next 10 months.
About you
You will have significant experience of working in a challenging, fast-paced news and media environment to secure high-profile coverage and championing the voices of marginalised people. Experience and knowledge of managing and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders is essential in this role, as is the ability to navigate competing priorities to develop and implement creative media strategies that reach a diverse range of audiences.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience of working with the media to help secure policy change at a national government level, outstanding people and project management skills and proven experience when it comes to handling reputational risk. You will also have exceptional news sense, with the ability to take a creative approach when seeking out new media opportunities.

Reporting to the Director of Engagement, the Media Officer is a key member of the organisation’s Engagement department (comprising the Marketing team and Publishing team). The post-holder is responsible for creating relevant and impactful media and content to support the promotion of and engagement with key activities.
This content includes but is not limited to video, animation and podcasts and the Media Officer should be able to recommend and deliver the right solution/s to support the targets and objectives. The Media Officer will help drive engagement across the organisation’s communication channels and raise the organisation’s profile and reputation through impactful content and messaging. You will devise creative solutions to bring key products and services ‘to life’ and champion the organisation’s mission and values internally and externally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Produce media and content to support marketing activity, campaigns and projects, including video, animation, podcasts
- Identify new opportunities for media and content, primarily in consultation with Marketing and Publishing teams
- Develop a network of contacts as sources for new content
- Prepare and disseminate press releases and other TOPRA news/updates
- Manage press and PR enquiries
- Monitor external activity (including competitor) and incorporate best practice
- Support engagement activity and monitor its performance across TOPRA channels, including:
- Social media
- Regulatory Rapporteur (online journal)
- Online communities
- TOPRA App
- Provide additional support to Marketing and Publishing teams where necessary
About you:

The public affairs and campaigns adviser supports the development of the RCP’s influence and networks, particularly in government and Parliament, identifying opportunities to involve RCP fellows and members in our influencing work.
Working closely with the public affairs manager, you will help support our public affairs and policy work, proactively identifying opportunities to ensure the organisation is influencing the health agenda effectively on a range of topics including the NHS workforce, health inequality, sustainability and climate change and clinical research.
You will be as comfortable speaking to parliamentarians and other stakeholders as you are writing consultation submissions and briefings.
