This is simply a myth!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Trustees come from all walks of life, and almost anyone can be eligible, as long as they are over 18. Charities are actively looking for trustees with a diverse range of experiences and skills, who want to make a positive difference to a community.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n What are a trustee\u2019s responsibilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n Trustees volunteer their time to make the crucial decisions about the charity’s activities, funds and future. When you become a trustee, you are accepting responsibility for looking after and directing the affairs of the charity. Trustees really are at the heart of the organisation \u2013 they must ensure they are delivering on the goals the charity was set up for, and that the charity remains solvent. This involves directing charity funds appropriately and taking care of the charity\u2019s assets.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It\u2019s a great idea for trustees to do some strong research on the charity before they start- reading Annual Reports and policies for instance. But many charities will offer relevant training to support their new trustees, or allow them to sit in on a trustee meeting as an observer. But it’s also great for the trustee themselves! Creating a more diverse trustee board<\/b><\/h2>\r\nCharities help some of the world\u2019s most vulnerable people, both at home and abroad. As such, everything a charity does needs to be tactful and considerate of a range of backgrounds, cultures and beliefs.
