There are plenty of part-time job opportunities and job shares for managerial roles. What matters is the impact you\u2019ve had at the organisations you\u2019ve worked for in the past.\r\n\r\nIf you\u2019re a part-time\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.charityjob.co.uk\/careeradvice\/career-guides\/digital-fundraising-officer-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fundraising Officer<\/a>\u00a0and you\u2019ve introduced a new campaign that\u2019s managed to increase donations by 10-15% compared to last year, will your next employer really care whether you worked part-time or full-time? Probably not.\r\n\r\nIn fact, if you can prove that you\u2019ve been a driving force behind positive change within your organisation while working part-time, you\u2019re just solidifying your worth. It shows that you\u2019re able to juggle the demands of a role with a lot of responsibility and still produce fruitful results in spite of your reduced hours.\r\n\r\nSo don\u2019t apologise for any part-time position you\u2019ve held.\u00a0Use it to your advantage and present yourself as the person who can go above and beyond in less time than the average. Research carried out by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/melbourneinstitute.unimelb.edu.au\/downloads\/working_paper_series\/wp2016n07.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Melbourne<\/a> found that working part-time (between 25-30 hours a week) improved the cognitive function of people aged 40 and over. This suggests that increasing work-life balance can improve your capacity to take on more complex or detailed projects.\r\n\r\nWorking part-time gives you the freedom to focus on getting work done, not waiting for the clock to run to 5pm. With the additional headspace outside of working hours, your mental health, sleeping pattern and motivation are likely to be better. There are rules and regulations in place that protect part-timers from being treated less favourably than full-time employees.\r\n\r\nIf you\u2019re ever worried about your entitlements, take a look at the UK Governments\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/part-time-worker-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">workers\u2019 rights page<\/a>. You\u2019ll find everything from your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/understanding-your-pay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pay rights<\/a>\u00a0(including maternity\/paternity leave) to your holiday entitlement (they even have a neat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/calculate-your-holiday-entitlement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">holiday calculator<\/a>\u00a0for part-timers) and career opportunities.\r\n\r\nThe important thing to remember is that\u00a0the\u00a0law protects you.\u00a0Working part-time doesn\u2019t mean that you have less say than a full-time employee. As mentioned, taking on a part-time job won\u2019t reduce your level of responsibility. But it will give you more time to adjust to the many changes. Switching jobs is one thing, but\u00a0moving sectors\u00a0will be a complete culture change.\r\n\r\nThis will give you an opportunity to get used to the many differences in approach to work and team dynamics. You\u2019ll have a better idea of how the charity sector works and your new role within your organisation. Then, you\u2019ll be in a better position to decide whether you want to go for a part-time or full-time role.\r\n\r\nYou might find that the role is right for you, but there\u2019s another cause that you\u2019re more passionate about and choose to work for a different charity.
