Encompass is a local charity based in and covering North Northamptonshire. The charity supports those facing poverty, homelessness and addiction, through the delivery of multiple services including two homeless accommodations, a rehab and aftercare, multiple foodbanks and a soon to be opened day centre.
With around 30 staff and nearly 100 volunteers across all the projects, this role is responsible for leading the people to deliver compassionate, responsive and impactful services. The post holder will help build and implement the strategic direction of Encompass, working with the Board of Trustees to fulfil its strategic and governance duties.
Encompass has grown significantly in the last five years. We began as a Christian organisation, we retain the ethos and embrace all faiths or none. The next few years are about achieving our priorities according to our strategic plan including another rehab and the opening of our Day Centre. The role will focus on ensuring the services being delivered are to a high standard, that the information and the way we collect information is effective and efficient, and that the staff have the resources and motivations to robustly deliver high quality services.
Encompass has a positive and inclusive approach to working with those with lived experience, whether that is through the development and improvement of services or supporting individuals to enter into volunteer work or paid employment within the Charity.
The post holder will be a compassionate, decisive and collaborative individual who will enjoy working with others to achieve the best possible service for those who are disadvantaged. They will welcome constructive feedback from staff, will seek the thoughts of others and will utilise the expertise within the staff team to achieve this.
The post holder will utilise their own skills to confidently work with others, building partnerships and nurturing existing ones. They will need to talk to funders, fill in applications for grants and improve the resources that are available to the charity. They will work closely with the Board to report and identify the risks to the charity and think creatively and curiously about solutions. They will not be afraid to try and will question the status quo.
Encompass is lucky to have a fabulous team of staff and volunteers, all of whom have different skills, experiences and knowledge. We are dedicated to drawing on those with lived experience to deliver our services, and the post holder needs to be committed to upholding this and improving it further. They need to be willing to draw on others’ experiences that are unfamiliar or unexpected to them and utilise this knowledge. They must be able to be sensitive around exploring the experiences of others and not taking for granted that one individual will have the same experience as someone else.
Encompass operates in a varied, unpredictable and ambiguous environment: we work with clients who are chaotic and vulnerable, and the questions that are posed are often not clear cut. The post holder will need to be confident making decisions or taking action on something with limited information, and be comfortable with things changing on a day-to-day basis and be willing to get stuck in.
We welcome applications from people who might not tick every box in the person specification, but who have some wonderful people skills, other experiences such as lived experience or who have worked in an environment similar to that described above.

Job Title: Programmes Officer – based in Liberia & Sierra Leone
Reporting to: Head of Programmes – Sierra Leone & Liberia
Contract Type: Full time (37.5 hours per week)
Principal Location: Monrovia, Liberia with frequent travel across Sierra Leone
Updated: Febuary 2024
Our Organisation:
Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 1,000,000 children to go to school and learn.

- Alongside colleagues provide training, guidance and advice to partner delivery staff to ensure effective and accurate use of programme documents and tools.

Background Information
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is the name given to a package of healthcare that some people need to receive due to disability, accident or illness. People who are eligible for CHC have the full cost of their care and accommodation funded by the NHS. This relieves families of sometimes astronomical care bills.
The criteria for determining who is eligible for CHC are highly complex and can be very difficult to understand. The assessment process is lengthy and detailed. Likewise, the appeal process can be very daunting and perplexing.
Beacon’s roots are in a service provided by Age UK Oxfordshire, to provide free advice and support to families trying to navigate the CHC system. Beacon is a social enterprise that spun out of this service ten years ago and has supported over 100,000 families across England.
Beacon provides a free CHC advice service, funded by NHS England, as well as advocacy and representation charged at a lower cost than many legal firms. We are well renowned as England’s foremost experts in CHC and frequently advise policy-makers on policy changes and updates to the guidelines.
Our Values
At Beacon, we employ people who want to do things differently to other organisations working in this field. Five values sum up our culture and how we treat our clients and our staff:
- Ethical
Commitment to our clients
We operate with honesty and integrity. We are transparent about our funding set-up and our fees, which we keep as low as we sensibly can. We never ‘hard sell’ our services, we keep you informed at every step, and we always give our honest opinion of your chances of success. As a social enterprise, we donate any profits to charity.
Commitment to our team
We operate with honesty and integrity, and always work hard to get the best results for our clients and the business. We work to high standards, and trust our people to respectfully speak out if we fall short.
- Expert
Commitment to our clients
We pride ourselves on being recognised as leading independent experts in NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC). We apply our knowledge and experience to help every case and caller. We also strive to improve CHC for everyone, by training health and social care professionals.
Commitment to our team
We are the leading experts in our field. We encourage and value innovation and evolution in what we do, and how we do it. We are united in developing the business and its services.
- Personal
Commitment to our clients
By listening carefully to you and the people who really know about your care needs, we can provide excellent advice and powerful advocacy tailored to your unique situation.
Commitment to our team
We get results by getting to know our clients. We do the same with our people, offering flexible working options to suit your circumstances, and taking time out to have fun as a team.
- Compassionate
Commitment to our clients
We are mindful of the immense stress that our callers and clients can be under, at what is often a really tough time. We do our best to lift some of that burden by providing a quality service that you can trust, and by being compassionate and courteous at all times.
Commitment to our team
The nature of the work can be stressful and emotionally draining. We take care and time to look out for each other, and encourage healthy work habits.
- Rewarding
Commitment to our team
We take the time to celebrate success and are inspired by one another’s achievements. We provide a generous and varied suite of benefits that can be enjoyed by our people and their families.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
