On Tuesday 18th June, the London Legal Support Trust (LLST) will host the London Legal Walk for a very special 20th time, bringing the legal community together to commemorate this anniversary and raise funds for free legal advice agencies across London and the South East.
Last year, over 16,000+ legal professionals from over 900 organisations took on the challenge. To make this event a success, we are on the look-out for 1 day event marshals to join one of the largest single day fundraising events in the country and add value to the thousands of event attendees.
The event is attended by high ranking judiciary, the President of the Law Society, the Lady Chief Justice and hundreds of London's top law firms. Want to be part of this special day and add skills to your CV? Take a look at some of the tasks below:
Tasks:
- You will be positioned at a “cheer point” along the 10km route where it will be your role to cheer and motivate walkers and offer support and encouragement as they go past. Your presence alone is enough to motivate thousands across the line, and ultimately raise as many funds as possible through a positive event experience. Regular email contact and a full brief in are provided so you are fully confident of supporting this event.
- Answer any questions walkers may have (you will be provided with an information pack about your point on the route).
- Other event stewards will support us in our cloakrooms and at the street party finish line on Carey Street.
- Enjoy the street party after your slot!

- Always buddied up with somebody else on a station.
What to bring:
- We recommend bringing hats, sun cream, and plenty of water. We also suggest you bring layers for the evening as it may still to get cold in the evening.
- Wear clothes you will be comfortable in especially comfortable shoes like trainers
- Feel free to bring your own food. You will have plenty of opportunities to go and grab something if you need (although food packs are provided by LLST)

Create our events calendar for 2022 in line with our purpose, including workshops, classes, talks, fairs, festivals and anything else you can think of!

Build and manage our events team

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity and membership association for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants.
We help all wounded servicemen and women who have lost limbs, the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
We are looking for Volunteers to help the Fundraising Team at in person fundraising and awareness raising events throughout the UK. We’re a small and friendly team, operating at a regional and national level. We organise Blesma events and collections, attend third party events and support fundraisers doing their own events.
By volunteering with us, you will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of volunteering for a charity and will contribute to our work supporting injured veterans and their families.

Bring your energy and enthusiasm and help us make a difference, by supporting the thousands of Walkers get through the night and raise millions for breast cancer patients and research!
We recruit hundreds of Volunteers to make The MoonWalk a safe and enjoyable event; looking after our Walkers as they take to the streets of London overnight, and above all giving them the encouragement they need to complete their epic challenge.
Join in the party atmosphere in MoonWalk City on Saturday Evening, with help needed from around 6 PM through till midnight. A busy period when our Walkers and Volunteers arrive en masse, from litter picking, to registering baggage, to handing out Volunteer uniforms or help managing the queues of excited Walkers, there is so much to get involved in!
The Night-Time is where the challenge really gets going for our amazing Walkers. If you like the nightlife, marshalling, or giving out water whilst surrounded by London’s famous landmarks, this could be for you! Start times vary between 8 PM and midnight, depending on your role, and last on average 8 hours. We can also offer site-based roles at MoonWalk City throughout the night. Early finishes can of course be requested.
Finally, the early morning team take the helm on Sunday Morning, starting between 5-6 AM until midday. Watching the sunrise against a London skyline is quite a sight to see! This truly is the most testing time for our Walkers… whether you join the route or MoonWalk City teams… your kind and motivating words could be all that is needed to get someone across that finish line!
On the night you will be provided with training, a t-shirt, cap and free light refreshments. All roles will develop teamwork and confidence, no matter what you do on the night… so why not bring your friends and family along to share this unique experience!

About the team:
The Public Law team operates within our Legal Access Department, assisting with two main areas of concern:
Supporting asylum seekers housed in unsuitable accommodation, specifically on vessels (such as the Bibby Stockholm barge in Portland) and former MoD sites. We provide one-to-one casework for individuals accommodated at these sites, gathering information to support a transfer request to more suitable accommodation, and gathering data and evidence for wider legal challenges to the Home Office’s use of these sites.
Additionally, we support individuals who have received notices that they are being considered for the UK’s Rwanda policy. Similarly, we provide one-to-one casework for these individuals, gathering information that would be essential to challenging removals in the event of another flight to Rwanda, as we saw in June 2022.

Current Board Arrangements:

There is also a sub-committee to the Board, the Finance and Risk Committee that meets 2-3 weeks before each Board meeting, and these meetings are virtual.

- Helping search and recruit for new County Lead Volunteers

- Contribute to regular reviews of The Care Workers’ Charity’s own governance.
- Attend Board meetings (mostly remote and possibly one being face-to-face), adequately prepared to contribute to discussions and respond promptly to requests for required action.
- Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect The Care Workers’ Charity’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
- Contribute to the broader promotion of The Care Workers’ Charity’s objects, aims and reputation by applying their skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

Sense Virtual Buddying volunteers make a real difference to supporting young people and adults who may be lonely or isolated.
Sense matches volunteers with disabled people to meet for an hour a week on Zoom, over phone, by email, text or letter writing. Our volunteers have spent thousands of hours with their buddies — learning new skills, having fun, and forming fantastic friendships. Sense matches each volunteer with someone who has similar interests, to make sure you have a great time. You and your buddy choose a time that suits you, and you can decide what activities you’d like to do together.
The Role of a Virtual Buddy
Sense matches each volunteer with someone who has similar interests to ensure you’ll have lots of fun together. Once matched with a buddy, you will get to know each other remotely via video calls, phone calls, texting, emails or through letters.
You’ll arrange weekly sessions and plan fun things to do together – what this looks like will be inspired by your mutual interests. You could be gaming, doing arts and crafts, playing music, seed planting – there are so many possibilities! We will provide you with weekly themed activities to help to support you in planning your interactions with your buddy.
We’ll also keep in touch with you to ensure you have all the support you need.
The programme is open to all volunteers who are 16 and over. You don't need to have previous experience volunteering or caring for disabled people. We welcome people from all backgrounds and with all interests.
What we can Offer You
Before you start your volunteering role, we’ll make sure that you’ve had the training you need to feel confident. This will be delivered online and via video call.
While you’re volunteering with us as a Virtual Buddy, you’ll get:
- A written account of your volunteering and references if required
- Reimbursement of pre-agreed expenses (up to £25)

Who we are Looking For
We need positive, empathetic volunteers who are passionate about supporting people with complex disabilities to communicate and experience the world. We are looking for volunteers who are great communicators and who are friendly, enthusiastic, positive and ready to have fun!
We’re also always looking for volunteers who have knowledge or experience of British Sign Language (BSL) and/or other communication methods like Makaton.

For 130 years, the Institute has been a cultural hub for the people of London to come together and learn in extraordinary spaces. Bishopsgate are seeking the Institute's next Chair of Trustees to take up the role formally in December 2024. The successful candidate will become a Trustee at the October Board, with the current Chair, Nigel Pantling, handing over the Chair role at the end of the December Board meeting.
In these immensely challenging times for charities, culture and heritage organisations – and all of us - the Institute is not alone in grappling with significant financial challenges. Have significant experience serving on boards, preferably with previous experience as Chair.
Have exceptional, inclusive and energising leadership skills; able to cultivate effective collaboration but also comfortable in taking responsibility for difficult choices.
Be excited to give the time and energy needed to the challenges and opportunities ahead for the Institute with a willingness to act as an ambassador, advocate and leverage networks where appropriate.

British Exploring Society is a world class youth development charity with a unique heritage, founded on the belief that challenging experiences can transform lives, empowering and equipping young people with the courage, skills, resilience and determination to make the most of their future.
We prepare and take young people on expeditions to remote locations where they face challenges, gain skills and learn about themselves - as well as acquiring knowledge relevant to their lives and to the fragile environments that they explore.
What is a Knowledge Leader?
The role of a Knowledge Leader is to inspire the curiosity of young peopl in science, media and the environment throughout the expeditition. Our leaders give young people the tools to explore their curiosity through the development of skills and practical techniques. To achieve this, it is the responsibility of the Senior Knowledge Leader, Knowledge Leaders and the collaboration of all leaders to design and deliver a programme of inspirational, educational projects.
We are looking for applicants who are:
- Able and passionate about leading, inspiring, and facilitating sessions with young people.
- Comfortable spending extended periods in remote and sometimes harsh environments.
- Able to commit to all pre-expedition training events.
- Available for expeditions for 2 to 6 weeks from mid July.
As a charity, all Leader positions are undertaken on a voluntary basis and Leaders join for the intrinsic value of adventure, education, and personal development of young people. You do not have to fundraise to lead on our expeditions.
Benefits of being a volunteer Leader with us:
Prior to expedition all volunteer Leaders will receive training and support. We ask that first time Leaders cover the cost of their flights as part of the group booking booked by British Exploring Society, who will then reclaim the cost from Leaders. Flight costs will be covered for all returning Leaders. Leaders will need to provide their own personal kit as well as vaccinations and visas (if applicable). Leaders may claim expenses for UK training events. All other expedition costs are covered, including insurance, specialist equipment, expedition food and accommodation.
Community - Our Volunteer Leader community come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and professions bring a diverse range of skills and experiences. Not only will you become a Member of British Exploring Society after leading with us but will leave with strong bonds and shared memories.
Courage - Set in wild, remote and sometimes harsh environments that young people aren’t used to. Working in this environment and supporting young people requires Leaders to show courage and be adaptable and dynamic, allowing for a unique and new experience - 100% of Leaders said they had acquired new skills.
Challenge – Our expeditions can be challenging. To prepare Leaders we provide high quality training and personal development. This offers Leaders the opportunity to develop & stretch their skills, such as youth work, technical, leadership and facilitation - 74% of Leaders said that volunteering with us had furthered their career.
Self-belief - From beginning to the end, you will be supported whilst developing their confidence. - 90% of our Leaders said they were more confident after expedition.
Upcoming opportunities for Knowledge Leaders in 2024
Science and media play an integral role on our expeditions, as such British Exploring Society recruits passionate, skilled volunteer Knowledge Leaders. These Leaders bring with them experience working with young people in remote settings and can inspire and facilitate the personal development of young people through curiosity in science, media and the environment they are in. Working in partnership with other expedition Leaders, they will be responsible for safety, wellbeing and development of 8-12 Young Explorers. They will take lead on designing and delivering activities and projects including the John Muir Conservation Award, scientific fieldwork and creative media activities. Our aim is to recruit multiple Leaders, with expertise across these areas and allow Leaders to play to their strengths and expertise to design and deliver engaging, relevant and meaningful projects for our Explorers.
Previous projects on expedition have included biodiversity surveying in the Amazon, environmental change in the Himalayas or expedition filmmaking, journaling and painting. Previous Knowledge Leaders have been academics and scientists with fieldwork or expedition experience, educators experienced in delivering environmental education (e.g Forest Schools) or have been creative professionals including filmmakers, animators and journalists. Expeditions are between 2 and 5 weeks long and take place during academic holiday periods. We are currently recruiting volunteer Leaders for all our expeditions for Summer 2024 and 2025.

We are currently looking to recruit new Here to Talk telephone befrienders, who are able to commit to a minimum of half an hour every 2 weeks. The aim of our Here to Talk service is to provide low level emotional support to unpaid carers across Wiltshire. You will be a friendly voice at the end of the phone, a listening ear to hear carers’ concerns, and someone who will provide reassurance during challenging times.
Successful applicants will have excellent listening skills and be empathetic and non judgemental. Training is provided.
