End Violence and Racism Against East and Southeast Asian Communities (EVR)
End Violence and Racism Against East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) Communities (known as EVR) is an intergenerational organization whose mission is to prevent and address structural racism and inequality affecting ESEA communities in the UK. This is in the context of rising racism and discrimination towards all minoritised groups, with whom we seek to build allyship and solidarity.
We started out as a grassroots organisation during the Covid pandemic in 2020, in order to respond to the high level of racism experienced by people of ESEA ethnic origin. Following successful fundraising initiatives we are now building a team to enable EVR to deliver effective services and campaigns in line with its strategic goals.
Job purpose
We have an exciting opportunity to join our small but ambitious team and to make a real difference by delivering vital outreach initiatives for our hate crime reporting service, On Your Side.
On Your Side is the UK-wide support and reporting service for East and Southeast Asian communities who experience racism and/or any forms of hate.
Launched in August 2023, the service includes a 24/7 freephone helpline available in East and Southeast Asian languages; a website with reporting forms and resources; and ongoing community-based support delivered by trained casework advocates. We work to ensure that those who experience racism and/or hate have access to the highest levels of culturally competent support while building a better picture of the nature and range of incidents so they can be better prevented.
Funded by the UK Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities, On Your Side is delivered by a consortium of 9 organisations including national and community-based groups with expertise in hate crime reporting, hate crime prevention, and supporting East and Southeast Asian communities.
We are now recruiting an Outreach Officer to develop and deliver vital initiatives to raise awareness amongst ESEA communities about On Your Side, ultimately leading to a greater use of the service amongst the communities we serve. Reporting to EVR’s Head of Services and working closely with consortium colleagues, particularly the Service Manager based at Protection Approaches, you will develop and deliver a series of outreach initiatives including online and in-person events. You will manage the On Your Side Community Champions (volunteers) programme and develop engaging marketing materials to promote the service across the four nations of the UK. Engaging and working with ESEA and other organisations will be critical to the success of this role.
If you are looking for a challenging and varied job with the chance to build your knowledge, skills and experience across a range of areas, we want to hear from you.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Manage the On Your Side Community Champions programme. This includes:
- Managing existing Community Champions – supporting them to raise awareness of On Your Side in their communities
- Recruiting new Community Champions and leading on training them how to raise awareness of the service with their networks
- Attending ESEA community events, promoting On Your Side by delivering engaging presentations and talks
- Event management – organising and delivering bespoke On Your Side awareness raising events in partnership with other organisations
- Reaching out to and engaging ESEA community organisations, developing meaningful working relationships with them
- Working with colleagues to create engaging digital and hard-copy marketing materials to promote On Your Side

Are you a strong, visionary leader keen to advocate for the VCSE sector? Are you interested in bringing people and organisations together to collaborate on the future of community led services across Hampshire and to be the public face of the organisation?
Having led the organisation through a significant period of change, our CEO has chosen to move on to take up a new challenge and set up her own business. We are now seeking a Chief Executive to lead Action Hampshire through the next phase of its strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who has the desire, vision and ambition to continue to build a system that is fairer for our communities.
As a strengths-based organisation, we value the unique contributions each member of our team brings and our organisational culture emphasises coaching and leadership over management. We’re committed to inclusivity, equity and to the wellbeing and safety of our team. This role offers a high degree of flexibility in working hours and can be delivered remotely, apart from bimonthly coworking or away days in Hampshire. You’ll have the opportunity to set your own development goals and targets and receive support to achieve them. Joining a friendly and supportive team, you’ll be able to manage your own time and work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues and contractors. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your strengths to other parts of the organisation too.
Key tasks include:
(see job description for a full list of tasks)
- Lead, inspire and develop the team at Action Hampshire to deliver our purpose
- Work with the Board of Trustees to ensure delivery and regular review of Action Hampshire’s (‘the charity’) vision, mission and strategic plans
- Deliver the charity’s vision and mission through appropriate plans and in accordance with agreed policies and protocols.

Our responsive approach means we work across a wide range of issues relevant to our communities, from increasing the availability of rural affordable housing to ensuring cancer awareness messaging reaches seldom heard communities.
There has never been a more exciting time to join our talented, ambitious and friendly team. Our new 3-year strategy sets out clear goals and actions which we’ll achieve together. Our leadership team are embedding a culture of learning, experimentation and development. Our team is caring, collaborative and driven by our values of being bold, enterprising, informative, and empowering. We very much welcome applications from all members of the community, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith or disability. Centre for London is London’s independent think tank, and a registered charity. As Research Director, you will lead Centre for London’s research team, developing new solutions to London’s critical challenges, securing funding for our work, preparing, publishing and promoting reports, supporting public events, and communicating our work to stakeholders and policymakers.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will help develop and implement the organisational strategy; contribute to the development, fundraising and delivery of events and other projects; and promote the ideas of the organisation to build its influence in existing and new public and private arenas.
The recommendations of your team will make a difference to policy and practice – tackling issues such as housing, poverty and inequality, employment and skills, transport and the public realm, the climate and nature crises, community resilience, and London’s place in the UK and the world. You will be line– managed by the CEO and work closely with the External Affairs and Development teams.
This role would best suit someone with significant experience leading policy research programmes – in a think tank, consultancy, central or local government, academia or similar. You will have a strong understanding of policy in London and the UK, project management skills, and be able to credibly communicate complex ideas to different audiences – in meetings, in writing, through blogs and articles, and in speeches. You will have strong analytical skills, including a track record of qualitative and quantitative research. You will have experience in fundraising, will have managed budgets, and will be confident working with researchers at different stages in their careers. However, we are less interested in what you have done, and more in what you can do.
This is ideally a full-time role; however, flexible working is embedded within our culture. We would be open to applications from people who would like to work compressed hours, part time (0.8 minimum) or to people applying as a job share. We view London’s rich and diverse culture as a strength, and we want our team and trustee board to reflect the city we serve. We are keen to encourage applications from women, people from minority ethnic and/or less advantaged backgrounds, or from communities often underrepresented in urban policy.
Full details of the role can be found in the job description. If you meet the criteria in the person specification and are excited about this opportunity, we’d love to hear from you. The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK by the start of their employment.
We are committed to reducing unconscious bias in our selection processes. Staff who shortlist applications will not see applicants’ personal information (including your name and responses to our diversity monitoring questions). For this reason, please create an application ID code (your initials, followed by two random numbers) and use that on your CV and cover letter instead of your name.
If you would like to speak with someone about this opportunity, please check our website for contact details to email Johnathan Tuck (Operations Manager).
For full details on how to apply, please check our application guidelines in our job description attached.
We will ask you to complete an online form with your CV attached.
- The form will ask you to upload a pdf of your CV.
- Your CV should be maximum 2 pages.
- The filename should be your initials and two numbers e.g. AA14. Please include this code as a header within the file too.
- Please remove any reference to your name, including your email address.

BACKGROUND
The Helen Bamber Foundation is a human rights organisation with an international reputation for providing medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection, and practical support to survivors of trafficking and torture. We are a team of therapists, doctors, lawyers, caseworkers and administrators who help men, women and children recover from the emotional and physical damage they have suffered because of torture, human trafficking, or other forms of cruelty.
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
As Psychotherapist within the Helen Bamber Foundation, you will work alongside our current Senior Psychotherapist and be responsible for supporting the Head of Therapies and the Team Manager in providing a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions to clients of the Helen Bamber Foundation.
In addition to providing psychotherapy, stabilization, psychoeducation, and trauma focused therapy, this role will include delivery of psychological assessments for both medico-legal and clinical purposes, as well as delivery of clinical supervision to staff from non-clinical backgrounds who nonetheless have significant client contact, and supervision of assistant psychologists. As you develop in the role you will also have opportunities to contribute to the on-going development of the service and at times, the role may include input into policy, research and fundraising and delivery of consultancy and training.
We are looking for someone who is committed to working therapeutically with individuals who have experienced human rights abuses and who have developed trauma spectrum disorders as a result. The successful applicant will ideally have proven experience in working therapeutically with this client group, have a passion for human rights work beyond the individual client work, and a desire to contribute to effecting change at a policy level. This role requires the ability to be with the complex and sometimes harrowing details of a client’s experience, and to react and respond creatively and appropriately to their needs.Additionally, you will be knowledgeable and experienced in consultation and assessment including risk management, and have competence, or a commitment to receiving training, in at least one model of trauma therapy such as NET or EMDR.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Helen Bamber Foundation and Asylum Aid is an equal opportunities and Living Wage employer. We are committed to attracting and recruiting diverse candidates as we strive to ensure that our staff, trustees, volunteers, and ambassadors reflect the communities we serve and the wider community we work in at every level of the organisation. We actively welcome applications from people of colour, applicants with disabilities, applicants with lived experience of the asylum system, and from other minority groups.
Please note that the successful candidate will be offered the job subject to suitable references and a DBS check. This role will require disclosure of both the adult and child barring lists. If appointed, you will be required to give your consent to HBF to receive regular updates on your criminal records status throughout your employment.
Please submit an up-to-date CV and a covering letter by midnight on Friday 3rd May, outlining your relevant skills and experience, as well as how your previous experience matches the listed responsibilities and person specification. Please state in your covering letter when you would be available to start the role. Interviews are scheduled to be held the week commencing Monday 20th May.
