We are The Children’s Book Project and we are just establishing our operations in Birmingham. We passionately believe that every child should have the opportunity to own a book and have, in the last year, celebrated gifting our 1 millionth book! We are looking for some wonderful volunteers to help us in managing book sorting and packing with a range of amazing corporate volunteers.
What we do:
We gift beautiful pre-loved and new books to schools and we gift within prison settings in order to reach children who may not otherwise have access to book ownership. We are on a mission to grow and develop our operations in Birmingham.
We operate in term time only so if could spare 2 days every half term to help our amazing Regional Coordinator – we would love to hear from you!
The role: We work with a range of amazing corporate volunteer teams who come to our Birmingham site (currently in Minworth) to clean, sort and then pack our books in preparation for delivery. These corporate days are always full of energy and fun and we need 2- 4 energetic and passionate people to become team leaders - making sure that there is a warm welcome, a clear plan for the day and fulfilling the workload with care, attention and inclusivity.
What is required:
On average, a commitment to 2 days per half term
Flexibility to travel to Minworth for sorting and corporate volunteering days

Your duties will include fixing furniture and equipment, installing new fixtures and appliances, assembling furniture, handling basic plumbing tasks, and undertaking repair jobs such as painting, decorating, carpentry, and basic electrics. Family Futures provides an integrated interdisciplinary, assessment, treatment and family-finding service for children who are traumatised or have attachment difficulties. Our groundbreaking Neuro-physiological Psychotherapy (NPP) model takes a body-based and neuro-sequential approach to healing developmentally traumatised children and supporting their families and network. Our services extend to adoptive, foster, special guardian, and at risk families.
What you will be doing.
This volunteer role is within our Marketing and Communications team, working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager and other roles across Family Futures, to achieve our fundraising targets, objectives and values. Our therapy, adoption and fostering services for children and families depend on our financial resilience.
By volunteering as a Funding and Grants Volunteer you will be helping us develop our fundraising strategy to ensure we have funds for projects which will improve our therapy space and better serve the community through enhanced services.
This is a rewarding opportunity to get involved in the ongoing development of Family Futures and to play an important role in helping generate income and build a pipeline of new funding opportunities to improve the mental health and outcomes of developmentally traumatised children.
Who is right for the role.
We are particularly looking for those who have some or all of the following qualities and experience:
- has a proven track record of successful trusts and foundations fundraising and knowledge of fundraising regulations.
- has effective communication and collaboration skills
- can build effective working relationships with others.
- is willing to keep proactively up to date with the external fundraising environment, identifying trends and opportunities.
- can understand the financial set up, budgets challenges and opportunities.

Duration commitment.
- Ideally committing to at least a year to provide consistency to the role and establish key relationships with funders and the local community.
- Commitment to being involved in a grant application/project from start to finish preferred.

Do you have experience in the maintenance or building trade?
Would you like to contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice? We are looking for facilities volunteers to help us provide a special environment for the families that access our services.
About the hospice:
Bluebell Wood offers care for children and young people in South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, North Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire with a vast range of complex medical needs. We provide support, respite, care in the community and end of life care. Sibling support is also at the heart of our work, as well as counselling, wellbeing and bereavement services.
About this role:
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to assist our Facilities and Estates Team. We are looking for a hard-working, self-motivated person with knowledge of health and safety principles and experience of caretaking or practical & hands on maintenance and with clean UK driving license. This role will contribute to the successful running of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Key tasks:
• Assist the team with site maintenance (upon completion of required training), to include reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, porterage, and project work.
• Assist the team with grounds maintenance & repairs, to include litter picking, path clearing (snow / leaves etc) garden building & furniture repairs, maintenance of garden tools & equipment.
What we are looking for:
Volunteers who:
• Have a few hours to spare each week to help
• Are physically fit and healthy to fulfil the manual activities involved
• Have knowledge of health & safety legislation
• Are maintenance or building trade trained or holds relevant qualification(s) in any building trade discipline or equivalent experience / knowledge
• Have experience of PPM’s, statutory maintenance, or reactive repairs
• Are able to work independently and be a team player
• Are friendly, respectful and have good communication skills
• Understand the sensitive and confidential work which is carried out at the hospice

• Hat (summer and winter for volunteering outside)
• External waterproof coat
• Full length trousers (for protection to legs)
