Do you have art gallery conservation or curatorial and exhibition experience? The Methodist Council are seeking nominations for one or more volunteers with curatorial, art exhibition and registrarial experience to support the care and exhibition of the Methodist and promote this unique Collection of 20th Century religious art, in order to prompt spiritual reflection and open conversations for discipleship, evangelism and mission.

The Methodist Modern Art Collection comprises more than 50 religious paintings, limited edition prints and reliefs by leading artists of the last 100 years. It was established in the 1960s and has strengths in British 20th Century art. The Collection is managed by an expert voluntary Management Committee. The successful nominees for these curatorial opportunities will be invited to join a relevant working group of the Committee and, depending on the volunteers’ skills and experience, we hope to be able to invite at least one person to join the Management Committee itself.

Role Summary
We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board. The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity's vision and mission. The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.
Chair role & responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that Glass Door achieves its mission with the interests of Glass Door's guests at its centre.
Work collaboratively with the CEO, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission and optimise the relationship between the Board and Glass Doors's staff and volunteers.
Provide leadership within the Board, ensuring that it fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and promoting governance among fellow Trustees, providing clarity around boundaries between governance, management and operations.
Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.
Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.
Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Glass Door when required.
Support Glass Door functions and events eg attendance at supporter events.
Support the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors with the cultivation of high-level donors, occassionally attending meetings where value can be added.
Represent the Board at staff Town Hall meetings.
Support the team liaising with partner churches and statutory authorities as required and be the public face of Glass Door in the local community.
Liaise with the CEO and he Board to keep an overview of the charity's affairs.
Provide supervision and support to the CEO as necessary in addition to planned monthly/bi-monthly 'catch up' meetings and, with the People Trustee, lead the CEO's annual performance review.
To act as final stage adjudicator for disciplinary and grievance procedures if required.
What we are looking for
Experience of being a Trustee, ideally in the third sector, and an understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee/Director.
A keen sense of strategic purpose.
Strong leadership skills, able to foster and promote a collaborative team environment and an inclusive and collaborative leadership style; able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing.
An ability to facilitate, mediate, influence and respect the confidences of colleagues. The ability to listen and engage effectively. You are comfortable with challenge and debate and are able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Advocate and ambassador - possess gravitas to lead the organisation and be able and willing to champion Glass Door.
Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to Glass Door's guests and ensure that the interests of our guests drive the decisions of the Board.
A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
A willingness to devote necessary time and effort to your duties as Chair and be available and responsive (e.g. when things sometimes 'come up' that require the Chair to advise, support or give consent to).

Term of office

Become an activity lead
As a volunteer activity lead you will run a local Re-engage group who meet on a monthly or fortnightly basis. You will deliver or facilitate regular physical activity sessions for people aged 75 and over in community centres, pubs or church spaces.
This is a flexible role and each group will host activity guests, along with our volunteer drivers who pick up and drop off our activity guests.
Activities can vary from boules and skittles, dancing or singing, or coming up with your own activity to get people moving. In some groups we may have another person coming in to run a specific class so we would ask you to facilitate this and support the activity guests who are attending on the day.
You will be required to complete a DBS check for this role, for which Re-engage will cover the cost.
Tasks include:
- Facilitating or delivering an inclusive activity with the focus on physical health and social wellbeing.
- Making activity guests feel welcome to the groups and ensuring people can participate in the activities. Activity groups are coordinated by a volunteer group coordinator.
- Following the guidance in your training to ensure that your group sessions are enjoyable, appropriate and in line with our charitable aims.
Your role as an activity lead will be to plan and deliver a session that is achievable for all the activity guests attending. Your session should be inclusive, fun and safely delivered to activity guests. Group activities can stay the same or change on a monthly or fortnightly basis.
This is a long-term voluntary role, so we are ideally looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering with us for at least 12 months.

- Good conversation skills
- An enthusiasm for making genuine connections with older people in your community
- A friendly, empathetic approach
- The ability to really listen to people

Do you enjoy working with children?
All Aboard Club provides inclusive play sessions for autistic and ADHD children, where they can build and play with our huge train sets and develop their social and communication skills.
We have been running play sessions in London and the South East for 3 years, supporting over 400 families.
We're looking for volunteers to run our weekend play sessions by helping to set up a massive train track on the floor.
We welcome applications from anyone but especially from autistic, ADHD or neurodiverse individuals as it is great to have volunteers who can relate to the challenges our children and families experience.
Here's a glimpse of what the role involves:
- Attending one or two of the locations (Streatham, Woking, Lewisham, Wimbledon or Weybridge) on a Saturday or Sunday.
- Lending a hand to carry our train set boxes from the car.
- Taking about an hour to set up our magical train world, which usually involves a crew of 2 - 5 people.
- Working closely with fellow volunteers to ensure the train set layout flows seamlessly and fits into our play space.
- Practicing active listening and effective communication with our awesome team.
- Keeping a watchful eye on the tracks and trains to ensure everything runs smoothly during the session.
- And last but not least, helping to pack up our world of imagination at the end.

As a volunteer group coordinator, you will set up or coordinate an activity group in your local area.
You will coordinate activity-based groups for people aged 75 and over in community centres, pubs or church spaces. Groups will host activity guests, along with our volunteer drivers who pick up and drop off our activity guests.
