They are looking for a new Assistant Coach, to work alongside the Centre Manager, as part of the team at Citizen Church to deliver the Spear Programme, equipping and empowering unemployed 16–24 year olds to overcome barriers to employment and turn their lives around by moving into sustainable work or further education.

The important stuff 

Salary: £21,000 p.a. pro rata for part-time role (£10,500) 

Hours: Part time, 2.5 days per week, between 9.30am – 5.30pm, Tuesday – Thursday (with some flexibility and occasional evening or weekend work for events such as Spear Celebrations)

Key Responsibilities

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics.

Relationship management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre

Church Community

• The Spear Coach is directly employed by Citizen Church, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community
• Help to raise the profile of the Spear programme within Citizen Church and build a network of supporters and volunteers from the congregation
• Other ad hoc church responsibilities from time to time.

Relationship management [20%]

• Manage great relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, donors, and your Board of Trustees

About the role

As an Employment Coach, you will manage a caseload of participants and provide them with 1:1 support, helping them overcome barriers to employment and training. Within this role you will be required to source new referrals who are predominantly Economically Inactive; complete the enrolment paperwork, including development plans and eligibility checks. This role is establishing Friends of the Earth’s flagship environmental leadership programme with young people in Belfast and surrounding areas. The programme, People Planet Place, uses community organising methodology to support marginalised young people to develop and deliver their own environmental justice campaigns as a team within their Further Education college or Youth Work setting. This is a new role in Belfast that will work alongside an existing Youth Campaign Coach based in Derry/Londonderry.

This work has been made possible by a four year grant from The National Lottery Community Fund. Enormous thank you to the fund for enabling a new generation of young people in Northern Ireland to campaign to protect our world.

Job purpose: 

To deliver Friends of the Earth Northern Ireland’s inclusion programmes with working class, disabled, LGBTQIA+ and racialised young people in Further Education and youth work settings across Northern Ireland, with a focus in the greater Belfast area. This includes:

1. Responsibility for direct project delivery in colleges and youth groups; 
2. Co-delivery with college and youth work staff so they can subsequently run the programme independently; and 
3. Coordinating a professional network of youth work and environmental organisations to increase access to environmental campaigning opportunities for marginalised young people in Northern Ireland.

The direct delivery involves leading recruitment and induction of small teams of young people followed by support in the form of training, coaching and resources to help them to implement environmental campaigns in their colleges, youth groups and communities.

Projects may vary but the focus will be on supporting 16-25 year olds within Further Education and Youth Work settings to learn about environmental justice and become skilled campaigners. Work will include follow up support for alumni of the programme to continue their campaigning journey.

Person Specification 

• An active Christian, passionate about personally representing the values and beliefs of Resurgo, and our mission to equip and support organisations to play a meaningful part in the repair of our social fabric.
• At least two year’s experience working in an administrative role working with senior leaders, preferably an EA or PA role
• Remarkably efficient with high attention to detail and strong organisational skills; someone who is self-motivated and likes to achieve results

• A proactive forward planner with an ability to anticipate needs ahead of time and work well under pressure

Key Responsibilities

Personal Administration Support

• Manage the Chief Executive’s diary, optimising the efficient use of time and resources through effective planning and ‘gate-keeping’ in a relational style that represents the charity’s values
• Ensure all necessary briefing papers and documents are compiled for the Chief Executive in good time in advance of meetings
• Prepare and present excellent Powerpoint and other presentations for internal and external audiences, e.g., meetings with donors, trustees and other key stakeholders.

Governance Support

• Co-ordinate and attend Trustees’ meetings, including arranging dates, preparing papers in advance, taking and sending out minutes
• Administrate the Investors’, Communications, Fundraising, Strategy and Finance, and other Trustee Steering Groups
• Support with various ad hoc projects to enable robust organisational governance
• Coordinate the Strategic Delivery team monthly meeting, and Senior Leadership Team weekly meeting, including organising meeting dates, preparing agendas and sending out minutes, as well as ensuring follow-up actions are completed
• Provide administrative support to the wider senior leadership team
